NFL Rumors: Tom Brady Won’t Take Hometown Discount To Stay With Patriots

Peter King on Sky Sports live right now talking about his conversation today with Brady. Saying Brady said he wasn’t at all surprised by what happened in the game. Shouldn’t expect something in game that we can’t do in practice and haven’t done all season. Basically saying receiving options haven’t clicked all season and noone should be surprised. Brady told King he wasn’t that disappointed since this was expected. Weird. King saying Brady is 50/50 chance returning to Pats in his opinion but 100% chance to return to NFL next season. Sounded like Brady was a bit ticked that Pats didn’t commit to him and then handicapped him with these WR/TE options.

Atleast some first hand narrative. King said he’s writing his article right now for tomorrow about this.

Crazy stuff. Almost sounded like Brady is resigned to the fact that Pats have moved on from him but he’s not done playing.

Will be interesting King article tomorrow. Brady must have authorized him to write this to get the word out he’s available.

Pretty big statement considering this organization went out every game expecting to win.

Who? Only key guys are KVN and Collins, if they leave, we have Sam and Bentley in the wings. I think Sam's speed and aggression will be an improvement on this D. The D is trending up baby.
Secondary will still be loaded.
Are you sure Chung & DMac return ? I’m not. I see Collins and KVN moving on as well.

There will still be talent and the possibility of staying strong - but four key defections would be significant.

What offensive players can/are the Patriots going to acquire too become a 4 TD a game offense? There is NO ONE out there. Please don't say a second year NKeal Harry...after EIGHT games he should be able to contribute more than one catch vs a 9-7 Defense.

Say goodbye to Brady...it's been real

I really hope Harry shows what he can do next year, to shut chicken littles like you up. The kid missed more than half of training camp practices and all but 3 preseason snaps after they foolishly played him in the Detroit game two days after he tweaked his hamstring. Then they put him on IR, then they brought him along very slowly when he did come back. A rookie WR who has a full preseason has a much better chance to make an impact in his first 8 games than Harry. Head coaches have stated many times that it is very difficult to make up for the loss of extensive practice time for a rookie. Then he has to work extra hard to get targets from a vet QB who has no use for rookie WRs, who has seemingly lost the ability critique his own play and who has lost some of the accuracy for which he is known (among many other things).

Harry had 3 TDs (counting the KC game) playing limited snaps for his first 3-4 games and, in my opinion, would have had another TD vs Miami if Brady didn’t airmail him in the end zone on an easy throw (the play that knocked the wind out of Harry).

There an many examples of star WRs who had mediocre rookie years, including 3 of the top WRs in the league this year (Sutton, Golladay, Godwin). You should check out their stats for the first 8 games of their career.

People who are writing off Harry already are either haters or morons.

Hopefully they don't bungle this position like the TEs and go after Josh McCown. What are the chances that Hoyer gets cut?

Harry needs to find Michael Thomas this offseason and learn from him because his movement and style of running does not instill any confidence that he will become anything special. He needs an offseason like Lamar Jackson had, filled with lots of hard work and redefinition of his game. When I watched him, even average NFL DBs and LBs were just draped all over him on the field. It was disheartening and I am sure Brady grew despondent seeing that over and over again.

So Matt LaCosse and Ben Watson weren't rope-a-doping everyone for the whole season, it turns out.

Definitely way too early to second-guess the 2019 draft class, I concede that, but it's hard not to think about how much better this offense could've looked with Metcalf instead of Harry and Dawson Knox instead of Harris. I wasn't calling for either of those guys over what we picked at the time so I can't take credit, but lots of people were.

I preferred Harry over Metcalf and still could well see him having a better career, but Metcalf turned out to be more pro-ready than advertised and Harry appears to have been less so.

Do you mean that same Dawson Knox who put together a very underwhelming rookie stat line of 28 rec, 388 yds and 2 TDs before no-showing yesterday in his first playoff game? That guy? He has a lot of talent but we don’t know if he will end up having a better career than Harris. And what do Harry’s stats look like under the same circumstances as Metcalf: full training camp, good health and a superior QB...yes, in 2019 Wilson is much better than Brady....who isn’t afraid to throw it to rookies? Let’s check back in two years. By that time Metcalf may have already served his first PED suspension.

BB has evolved the offense over the years. I am sure he will look to evolve. Dont be suprised of o'Shea comes back to replace josh.
Not sure what it evolved to this year, exactly...

I think that by April, we’ll know if “they want to be a serious SB contender” in 2020. It’s possible they are ready to undertake a serious retool. This Spring will be very interesting.
To be fair, there have been plenty of offseason where lots of people think it looks like Bill isn’t trying to win and then we are true contenders

Patriots and Brady need each other right now. Pats to find a bridge to the next QB-brady is still better than at least 25 other QBs and brady because this system and coaching offers him the easiest transition. Just my 2 cents.

Are you sure about that or is your pathologic brady addiction clouding your judgement like so many posters here. So in your opinion, there are (at most) only 7 other QBs whom you would rather have in 2020, after watching all of Brady’s games this year with a totally unbiased eye?

At this point in their respective careers I would take all of these QBs over a 44 year-old Brady:

Jackson
Mahomes
Wilson
Dak
Watson
Brees
Rodgers
Wentz
Stafford
Jimmy G
Ryan
Jones (possibly, knowing the potential for a sophomore slump)
Murray (possibly, same reason)

Yes, belichick protected the team. He didn't want to take the risk of injury r of diminished performance level and pay Brady for a 2 year contract, with perhaps another $15-20M guaranteed.

Oh well. Belichick lost his bet. Now, Brady has taken all the risk, and he should now make the same money over 2019 and 2020, plus some for taking the risk himself, instead of sharing it with the patriots.

Regardless of who Brady is its not fundamentally sound to commit long term to a then 42 year old QB and definitely not now to an approaching 43 year old QB. we weren't wrong. One year deals are the only thing that are fundamentally sound considering his age.

I think one year deals are a reasonable position for both sides. Why would Brady not agree to that at this stage in his careeer? He said he wants to play until he sucks. That could come at any time now but he must see that coming much further down the road. I don't think he sucks yet.

If Brady actually said this to Peter King or any other media person, It is stunning. This is so unlike Brady. He has NEVER thrown any of his teammates under the bus like that. Totally out of character and not consistent with the patriot way.
Again, assuming its true...it is a tell that he has already decided he will be playing elsewhere next year.

What he said is factual, but not something that Brady in the past would ever say even in the worst of circumstances. Frustrated yes....I get it...but do not discuss that in the media

It also amazes me that he does not seem to accept at least some responsibility for the faults of the passing game. Yes the receivers were not on the same page as him...but di dTB not make any mistakes last year? Did he not throw any picks that were at least partially his responsibility or overthrow any receivers that were due to bad throws?

Brady's dad said it would end ugly here...is this the first sign of an ugly ending...possibly.

I am hoping that King was talking to an imposter Tom Brady.

I’m not sure what you mean by this.

I'm going to read the actual article and direct quotes by Brady before I start drawing conclusions and suggest everyone else do the same.

QM that is a pretty great disagree.

I think it is crystal clear Kraft puts making money above all else and is willing to put winning and anything else aside if they work at cross purposes to making money.
Well he doesn't charge for training camp so I'm thankful for that.

I'm ready to walk on from Brady and have said so multiple times.
We have been blessed ... so blessed and it's more than a fan has a right
to ask for. However he deserves a few huge paydays and he's not getting them here.
If he does get them here then we will be a just barely playoff team.

So IMO ... time to move on ... and he knows it ... and it's okay.
Why would any other team be willing to pay him more than we would? We have an offense built around him and no replacement and have been winning with him for 20 years.
