What went wrong this year

Mismanagement of the offense. Bill whiffed all summer afraid to throw money at guys when we needed receivers and a tight end

And the defense bought into the hype because they beat up the scrubs of the NFL the first 8 weeks. What did van noy or Collins do the last 8 weeks of the season? Nothing...

Bill offered more to Humphries than the Titans did, so he wasn't cheap on getting some needed WRs, Humphries went for less money and a younger QB (though Mariota is not really the kind of a QB I would be looking for as a receiver).
He payed AB quite some money and they took/will take some dead money for him, he would have helped if he was smart enough to keep his phone away for the season at least, it just didn't worked out well this season all around on the offense side of the ball.

All this caused also the desperet move for Sanu late in the season, where they overpaid for a JAG with a 2nd round pick. I hate this trade from top to bottom!

What is most to blame regarding the team building is that BB missed on several good TE classes the past few years, even though he knew Gronk won't make it any longer than he did.
Would have loved to have Kittle on the team, he is a difference maker and improved heavily on blocking, he seems to love to block now.

Lack of a decent TE and a speed WR were major problems going into the season and injuries were the final blow. Also, Derrick Henry showed us that a wide body is needed on the D line to stop the run (Raekwon Davis?).

In order

- James Devlin being hurt
- AB being AB
- Newhouse being a freaking turnstile
- Edleman being hurt or just old
- The #1 TE was 39 year old Ben Watson
- Harry missing the majority of the season
- Josh Gordon relapsing again (I'm going to take a guess this is the real reason the Pats cut him)
- 2019 Draft yielded no immediate help (although it could end up being one of the best drafts in the future)
- McDaniels
- Ghosts injury

Where do I start.
  1. Robert Krafts affinity for backroom tugjobs
  2. Gronk taking to long to make a decision on retiring made a really good TE like jared cook go to the saints instead.
  3. Not addressing TE at all in the draft.
  4. Bend over BOB releasing AB amid fake outrage.
  5. Trading demariyus thomas.
  6. Not signing amendola
  7. Cutting Gordon
  8. Trading michael bennett
  9. Wasting draft picks this year by benching Damien Harris and Joejuan williams the WHOLE season
  10. Draining the clock at the end of the half against the dolphins instead of attempting to score.
  11. Lack of rangy linebacker that can cover sideline to sideline.
  12. Giving up a 2nd for sanu
  13. Football operations most likely being penalized draft picks for "spy gate 2". Krafts fault again.

Humphries isn't very good so missing on him was probably not a big deal.

It is disappointing how unpatriot-like a lot of things went this season, particularly the last 2 games. I'm not sure if some of that is the high expectation patriots have created over the years or something else. Hard to say how much is due to coaching vs players. Things just never seemed to improve or adapt or just get figured out like they usually do. The offense was just inconsistent. Inconsistent play and/or personnel. Losing 2 TEs and replacing them with lesser/newer versions. Injuries on the Oline and FB. A revolving door at WRs, until only late season, with JE being the only true reliable guy. Ultimately, they just didn't have a good 2nd option beyond JE11. Years past they've always had a good #2 option whether it was Gronk, Amendola, Cooks, etc. Last year when JE11 was out early on, the O didn't look too great either even with gronk. Hindsight is always 20/20 in regards to GM moves, but probably in hindsight I would've cut Dorsett instead of DT when AB arrived. DT may have been that good 2nd option.

-Starting center had a bloodclot and was put on IR.
-First round WR was injured before the season and missed half a year of development.
-A big pick up in Thomas ended up being released for the sake of Antonio Brown
-Antonio Brown doesn't know how to act around women.
-Josh Gordon doesn't know how to act around drugs.
-Edelman got banged up all year
-Wynn missed a huge chunk of the year with turf toe
-Cannon missed a huge chunk of the year
-Sanu got injured immediately after the trade and it takes awhile to learn this offense.

We were very unlucky this year

Lets not forget losing Gronk and not getting even an average replacement, as well as losing a pro-bowl fullback in Develin and his backup to IR.

Don’t underestimate the Devlin injury.

Well you don't win every year and that's all right so not winning doesn't translate directly to a wrong situation but in this case the biggest storyline is how they screw up so bad in assembling an offense. Their current situation is so bad it won't fix in one off season.
Sure it can be fixed...especially if Gronk decides to give it one more shot

Let somebody not named BB shop for the groceries. BB needs to stick to caching and delegate His GM duties.

@archstanton543

I have a Vizsla, and you are making his breed look petty with all of your dislikes and disagrees. Please change your avatar photo or chill out.

Because his results have only been the best ever.

For that particular run we don’t have the greatest personnel. We’re not even in the same ballpark from last season at TE with regards to run blocking. And don’t get me wrong I like Wynn he’s turned into a solid LT but Trent Brown was on a different level as a blocker. Guys a monster.
I like Wynn also but he got blown up bad on the goal line.

We actually gave up a 2 for Sanu. Historically bad deal!!

All that and you haven’t even mentioned the TE woes

this is all you need to know:

for all you guys waiting for him to turn it on...you guys probably also want to get rid of Brady

I am a huge supporter of BB and never question him. Not getting a TE really hurt this Offense. Blocking and Passing. Defenses never had to game plan for any TE threat at all in both phases of the Offense. Loaded up on our only threat Edleman. Sanu stinks. Harry does not seperate. Dorsett is a complimentary piece only

This!!! And the fact that it is so very hard to be consistent year to year let alone decade to decade!

Look at the Rams - Superbowl last year out of the playoffs this year.

Many pre-season SB champs wind up wasted on the side of the road due to injuries, bad luck, etc.

Looking forward to seeing what 2010 has in store for the Pats.

That said - Edelman catch the f*&^$ing ball!!!!!!

What was weird to me was how anytime someone showed potential they were immediately shutdown. Thomas has a pretty good showing and then immediately let go. Meyers shows promise and then is an after thought when AB gets here. AB gets here...plays well....gone. Dorsett catches everything thrown his way and then.....gone/disappears. Gunner shows speed/quickness.....mysterious ir. Bolden at this point is a better wr than our wrs and he basically doesn't see the field again.

Lastly, why didn't we force passes to White? No deep wheel routes...nothing. I'd argue he is our most reliable guy.
