Bedard: Belichick “rumblings”

The Giants job.
Is not a good situation. It's a legitimately bad team that is married to a running back at the least valuable position in the game that the city will mutiny against him if he doesn't sign, and he'd married to continuing the Daniel Jones experiment. All this while having to go through a rebuild. Also NYC isn't going to give Belichick anywhere near the time another place would

He's under contract, wouldn't a team need to trade for him?

(1) BB loves the NYG
(2) If BB were to return, he’d make sure he’s the decision maker and he’d make quick work of the roster

Belichick is gonna be 68 in a few months. Would he really want to rebuild an organization now?

I think he’s grooming his sons and when they are ready (3-4 years) he’s moving solely into the GM role here and Steve Belichick will be his coach.

Which team would be crazy enough NOT to trade for him ? And would Kraft have the balls to refuse ?

If he’s under contract then yes, a team would have to strike an agreement with NE to get NE to release his rights.

Though do we know when his current contact ends? Maybe he’s not under contract?

Also, perhaps BB used his leverage to put in a clause that if ownership interferes in his football decisions in ways X, Y, or Z, the contract voids.

Most likely we’ll never know.

I mean, previous coach trades of this sort have cost at least a 1st, sometimes multiple (other than Herm Edwards lol).

You only know he likes the history of the franchise and the time he spent there 25 years ago when Wellington Mara was in charge not the current stooge.

That’s fair.

Bb loves the patriots and has 20 years of building a structure and culture

While true, from time to time people like change. I’m not saying it’s probable he moves on, I’m saying it’s not impossible.

I'm just answering about the supposed interferences, not their outcomes since I would stick with Brady too but Bedards take is about that and BB having total control, if Kraft calls for strike 3 BB may decide OK enough.

I think Belichick is too smart for this.

20 years in one place, you're going to get some owner input. Wherever you go. Unless he despises the Krafts, there doesn't seem to be enough to get angry about over a really big decision (Brady v. Garoppolo). Anyone who has worked with one employer over a very long time learns quickly to overcome past power plays. Comes with the territory. Especially with a team like the Giants which has never really given a ton of space to its successful coaches (Parcells, Coughlin).

He’s under contract has spent 20 years getting the organization where he wants it and has total control. It’s impossible.

Jacksonville is the only option I could see, just for lifestyle reasons - time in warm weather, on his boat, etc. At 68, you start to really treasure things like that.

End times. Always knew it would come down to Brady fans vs Belichick fans. Once upon a time, we were all Patriots. Looks like Kraft as his last act might lose both of B&B.

Tom Coughlin. Never going to happen.

I bet they are all gone. Brady, Belichick and McDaniels.

I put a bit of stock into it. If Bill is indeed thinking of moving on from Brady I’m sure he thinks Kraft will be upset about that, and I would guess he is gearing up for an argument there. Hard to say what has really gone on behind the scenes and how Bill really feels but there are many little things/little ways Kraft has potentially been a thorn in his side in recent years. Bill could use those instances as leverage to tell Kraft to back off and let him do his job or he could just leave. Or, it could all be a bunch of BS. I’d be lying if I said Bill didn’t seem a little disgruntled lately but he is also perpetually disgruntled-looking so can’t really read anything there.

Coaches can't quit and just take jobs elsewhere. That's why the Pats had to send a pick to the JEST. There is no way Kraft lets him leave while under contract without getting a lot in return.

We don't know what the terms are between RK and BB.
It could easily be, year-to-year. Kraft "Bill you are in charge. Let me know if you decide otherwise...".
