What went wrong this year

We went from a solid WR core group at the beginning of the season to screwing ourselves by letting Thomas walk, we let AB go, and Harry was injured. We also didn’t draft a competent TE.
It’s simple as that.

We had bunch of nobodies and you can’t win games in this league with that down the stretch.

We had a lucky first half, but once teams start getting better we got exposed on the offensive side of the ball.

We lost blockers: Andrews, Wynn (for much of the season), Gronk, Allan, Develin
Our WR were a weak group and were injured.
Gronk delayed in telling the team of his retirement. BB never was able to replace him.

On the good side, the defense was one of the very best in the NFL. Congrats to the players and coaches!

This doesn’t really hurt much at all, I kind of saw it coming and knew what our issues were coming into this game. Plus we have 6 Super Bowls with the possibility of more in the future. As for today, The defense didn’t have a terrible game but the offense was its typical terrible self. This team has been the antithesis of patriot football under BB. Went from being the #2 seed to being bounced out of the playoffs in the wild card round. Lost to the dolphins at home, lost to the titans at home in a prime time playoff game, lost to the Texans on MNF, we don’t usually lose those games. Was it injury? A lack of talent? We’re we just soft like in 2009? Maybe it’s a good thing if Josh leaves, we need young minds on offense to return to winning ways. I think BB could stay into his 70s

It’s amazing how many posters keep saying that Thomas was released when he was traded to the Jets right after the Pats signed Antonio Brown. Thomas was pissed and didn’t want to go to the Jets.

You still have fools that defend this guy. Just look at the numbers the last 5 games. 1 catch. That’s all he had tonight. One catch.
I’ve lost respect for anyone who has openly defended Mohamed Sanu.

Let me add some addenda:
BB never addressed TE which he's had years to do
BB hasn't drafted a great offensive skill player in well over 10+ years
BB cheaps out when trying to sign skill players-see Adam Humphries, Manny Sanders etc
BB cheaps out resigning decent players who Brady has connection to- Hello Amendola, Deion
BB lets our stud LT go and has our OL completely dependent on a rookie with an injury history and who has never played the LT position
BB mistakenly drafts below NFL average RB and WR with 1st rd picks
BB drafts OL guys who are injured and/or questionable
BB drafts strange no name DB projects (in RD 2!) who no one has ever heard of
BB drafts weird Navy guys and rugby players for more "fun" projects
BB stacks defense positions 3 or 4 deep and has ex cons, mental cases, broken down geriatrics and addicts for offense
BB lets his idiot son try to run the defense
BB alienates and tries to run the greatest of all time out of town for ego reasons

Anyone notice a theme here?

Yeah, your posts all suck.

Guy was a complete waste. Worst trade Bill has ever made.

And to think we got the same return for Jimmy G that we traded away for Sanu....what a joke.

Don’t forget all it took was a second round pick to trade Chandler Jones away and he’s only in the running for sack leaders in the NFL every year.

Despite all the problems with the offense, Brady played like vintage Brady tonight, the receivers were bad but not horrible (, the protection was good, and the running game was good. 13 points. Quite simply, the offense is not as good as the sum of its parts, and that’s a Josh issue. Playing Sanu as much as he does, misusing Dorsett on deep patterns, failing to get that ball to Harry with simple routes and let him rack up YAC, underusing the pony formation with White and Burkhead, not using man coverage breaking concepts, the **** show of stupid, unimaginative red zone play calling I’ve b1tched about for years...this is what I suspected when Josh doesn’t have a superhero like Edelman (healthy) or Gronk, along with vintage Brady.

And for the last time, why put LaCosse on the goal line in an obvious running play? Put an extra lineman there and designate him as a TE. That concept - which I made a thread about this year - probably cost them the game. You wouldn’t rather have a real offensive lineman as an extra blocker on the goal line? You’d rather use a below average TE in LaCosse who isn’t a threat to catch a TD and isn’t a good blocker? Remember that play against the Pats by the Bills before halftime when they made some fat lineman an eligible TE? Josh lacks creativity on the goal line. It’s infuriating. Newhouse - yes, even Newhouse - probably blows up that goal line stand and makes it 17-7.

We have $42m in cap space and that is without KVN, Thuney, and D. McCourty. That also includes a $13.5m dead cap for Brady. I think KVN is gone.

If we want one more run we need Brady and upgrades at WR and TE. Sign Brady for $23.5m + incentives that can get him to $26.5m. That brings cap down to $29m.

Resign Thuney at $50m for 5 years. Try and spread out cap hit to later years. Try to resign McCourty 1 year $7m. Now your in the cap range of about $17m.

Cut Gostkowski and save about $3.5m. Give Folk $1m per year. Try to restructure Hightower and Cannon. Restructure Sanu to lower his $6.5m salary or cut him. Tough pill to swallow a 2nd rd pick but he didn’t add anything and doesn’t create separation. Now your back in about the $25m range.

Sign Eric Ebron 3 years $22m. AJ Green 3 years $27m (or Robby Anderson 4 years $35m).
D. Amendola 1 year $3.5m.

Draft focus: OL depth, Safety, LB, blocking TE

With some luck and no major injuries that’s a team that can compete for a title

Cant believe we are still debating jones. He wouldve demand big money and you wouldnt have someone else like hightower on your team. And we really did okay after trading jones dont' you think ?

No Jamie Collins or Van Noy leaves a weak LB corp. Elandon Roberts sucks as a linebacker.

There’s ways of opening cap space. They’re gonna lose some of those linebackers unfortunately. McCourty is a free agent.

That wasn’t the point. The point was that Jones was a lot better player than what he was traded for.

Just law of averages. Teams arent supposed to win as much as the pats do. They are bound to suffer bad yrs, injuries, bad games ,mistakes. Pats have defied the norm. Every other team probably creates this thread once in 3-4 yrs.

He wasn't going to get paid here ,at least what he wanted and pats got a 1st rounder if i am not mistaken .

i don't think i'll ever understand the Sanu thing. He was. if nothing else, a competent WR2 on two other teams before he got here, then proceeded to be absolutely ****ing worthless as a Pat. Some of it is clearly his injury, but that wasn't all of it.
