The Pats need a new direction on draft/FA signings

Still great talent available at those slots. Look at who we picked and who was available in early round 2.

Can’t believe people try to pull that kind of logic out like this is the NBA.

There’s good talent all over the draft.

The Pats need a Professional GM with total autonomy.

I don't know how would they work this out, but I think BB should stay only on coaching duty. Obviously he can have a say here and there, but the Pats needs to reevaluate all ther scouting and draft process. The results aren't good enough. Our best WR is a 7th rounder QB converted to WR. When they don't get lucky to have Gronks or Hernandez slid to them, they don't do well enough.

You can't make this stuff, why did they spent high draft picks in a RB and a CB who never saw the field, when last February, in the SB was pretty clear this offense was flawed. They only had Edelman back then at WR, one year has passed and didn't change. No Gronk? Ok let's not worry about even try to draft a TE in the higher rounds.

Im not pulling that BS card BB the GM is killing BB the coach. It's just business, the drafts haven't been good, the FA signings pretty questionable and there's a need for acountability. You have a 42 years old playing with a bunch of homeless, give me a break, they should do better than that.
it's hard to draft well and prepare for free agency when you played till feb the last three years.

You can actually go back all the way to 2014. This has been an unbelievable run.

Gee, nothing like dismissing a draft class after their rookie year. I think you should inform Harry & Winovich that they are busts and can pack up and leave.

What about all the rest? They basically weren’t even good enough to have a rookie year for crying out loud.

Chase looks serviceable, and I believe Harry has potential despite plenty of naysayers. Those two alone don’t make up for again... the rest of the entire class not being worth even playing (outside Bailey).

Uh, you can cherry-pick better players to disparage even the best drafts.

Really, can you people please go look at the the draft results of franchises that make the playoffs year after year after? They become thoroughly mediocre. If it's happens to Bill Polian and Ozzie Newsome; you can expect it to happen to Belichick too.

The difference is that Belichick has had to deal with a far greater degree of success - for far longer, too - while still field more successful teams.

I love people shytting on the guy who created the dynasty because they now think it’s over.

I don’t know how anyone can’t see the ridiculousness in it.

Is BB perfect? No. But he is the best ever. These numb nuts second guessing his methods is laughable.

Smartest post in the thread. Our fans are too spoiled too see the forest for the trees. Any other franchise you give their left nut for BB as their GM.

Oh really? If it's so easy show me how Bill Polian did? Sure there is talent. What you don't realize how badly the odds go down of maintaining such success is the later you pick year, after year, after year. It's not a coincidence.

Pats had some pretty bad drafts from 2005-2008 until Floyd Reese came to town. After he left is when the bad drafts started again.

Timing is everything. Floyd’s first two years in Foxboro happened to be the earliest consecutive season endings in the past 20 years for the Pats (after the 2008 and 2009 seasons). So he had the longest run ups to the draft compared to the 7 years previous and the 9 years subsequent. Don’t underestimate those extra 3-5 weeks strategizing with BB, Caserio and Adams full attention.

Like everything in life nowadays, it’s gotta be binary, huh?

It’s Bill sucks at drafting, let’s move on...

vs.

Bill’s the greatest so shut up you puny ingrate!

Though I’m obviously very critical of recent drafts, I’m not advocating for someone else.

I think Bill can be even better by improving draft results. Some of the flaws, and mistakes are painfully apparent, yet BB seems like he goes on stubbornly with whatever formula he’s been using. At what point does he look at results as of late, and then take a hard look in the mirror?

I don’t need a new GM. I need BB to be honest, and evolve on his one glaring weakness as of late.

Lol, the Pats 2009 draft class got immediately trashed on by Pats fans more than any I can recall in the BB era...and that draft class turned out to be possibly the best in the NFL that year (maybe only Green Bay was better).

That's the exact same kind of attitude fans have now. Can't see the forest for the trees.

Reese’s first draft in 2009 draft was actually pretty bad considering how many picks they had and where they were. The 2010 to 12 classes were the ones that started their Super Bowl run in 2014.

Are you talking the first round? Cause I’m not. What’s the excuse for the huge reaches like Dawson? The trade ups for guys like Williams that can’t even see the field beyond ST? The drafting of guys that are already damaged goods?

There are plenty of sound players to be taken that can contribute (I’m not calling for stars), and that has nothing to do with drafting later in the rounds.

Chung, Darius Butler, Brandon Tate, Vollmer and Edelman???? That’s not bad at all. Plus they had no first rounder.

Bill Belichick is the most successful, and by extension the best GM in NFL history. His overall philosophy of valuing the bottom tier of the 53 man roster is one of the elements that has made the team so resilient, and made this run sustainable against rules designed to enforce parity. This often comes at the expense of not having marquee skill players. It also results in catastrophes like having a season where the team goes 12-4, wins the division, but fails to make its 10th straight AFC championship game.

Chung was terrible his first stint in New England and BB admitted that he was playing Chung out of position which contributed to him not playing well. Butler was terrible. Volmer was the best impact player. It took Eldelman five years to become the player he is now.

RULE: Never draft or trade for a player who will be injured before the year ends.
Sanu hasn’t been on the injury report in how long? C’mon.
