"Targeting lack of weapons for Tom Brady’s decline growing tiresome" (?)

2006 was the worst receiving corp we ever had. Not even close.

Troy Brown was 35 years old and done in 2006. He never played again after that season unless you count the one game he appeared in 2007 where he didn't get a single catch and only returned punts (he retired in 2008). Same with Corey Dillon who also retired after the 2006 season because he was a shell of himself.

And Gaffney did nothing in 2006 until the playoffs. He was signed in early October of 2006. And he had 11 catches for 142 yards and one TD during the 2006 regular season.

You are just looking at a bunch of names and looking at them for what they were at their peak and not how awful they were in 2006. Brown and Dillon and probably would have been cut if the Pats had any talent behind them. Gaffney didn't even really learn the offense until late December.

Reche Caldwell was the #1 WR for the Patriots in 2006. He was a low ranked #2 at best for most teams and most likely a #3 or #4 WR on most teams the way he was playing.

And Maroney had a good, not great rookie season. He had 794 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground and 194 receiving yards and one TD from the air.

Dorsett, White, and Harry could have easily started in 2006. Our receiving corp was garbage that year. I might have been able to start that year.

And I don't care about stats. You can twist them any way you like. But you have to remember in 2014, Brady had to rededicate himself to the offseason to get better. He stayed in Foxboro all offseason and even won the parking spot for the first time since the early 2000s. So even with your point, Brady recognized he was declining in skills because he wasn't working hard enough. But that time it wasn't because of age. This time, it might be.
Agree.

I'd take the TEs from 06

That's it

Brady looks slower afoot. Gets rattled easier and has missed throws. Partly due to a terrible line for much of the season.

But the wrs are horrific. Sanu and harry are have slower feet than any wrs i've seen. Troy brown at 35 was washed up? Troy brown could beat these stiffs now in running routes. I think brady is just sick of looking at guys who can't get open to save their lives.

I put only part of it on brady. Very sad it has to end this way. Terrible horrific drafting is the bigger culprit.

They hardly ever draft and develop WR's and for reasons I'll never understand flat out refused to draft a TE in the last draft (or before that...the handwriting was on the wall for Gronk for a while). I'm so glad we picked up yet another RB instead of drafting for an area of need.

I feel crazy, but why are people in such denial that Brady may just be declining? It's almost insulting to him saying he is struggling because he doesn't have a bunch of all-pro receivers.

Are people implying that Gronk is the real reason for Brady being the GOAT?

Let's not forget that he still has the best slot receiver in the league and arguably the best catching RB. The greatest of all time shouldn't need 4 pro-bowl receivers on the roster. He is the guy who turned a mediocre receivers like Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Brandon LaFell, etc into 1k yard receivers. ****, Edelman was a damn QB in college and Brady turned his ass into a potential HoF receiver.

And honestly, a huge part of the reason for the decrease in stats is Brady's development of not giving a **** about completion %. He's old and doesn't want to take unnecessary hits so he is throwing the ball away faster than earlier in his career. He gives up on plays if he doesn't see anything immediately developing. And that's a compliment, btw. I'd rather he do that then risk injury like half the QBs in the league.

And yes, on top of all that, there has been a rise in dropped catches. That's possibly due to the pressure being put on the receiving corps.

A big test will be tomorrow when there is no more "next week" if you lose. He'll likely throw the ball away less which will either be very good or very bad depending on which Brady shows up.

My hope is he unloads and receivers all have a good day which would greatly reduce pressure heading into the divisional round.

But, maybe I am crazy

Was there ever any royalty in Ireland? Wasn’t Ireland based on family klans and the larger more powerful ones had the castles?

I’m no Irish history expert but I did a 10 day tour in 2018. Castles and ruins everywhere.

I could have sworn I saw the ruins of the KontradictioN castle...
Think it was mostly royalty that was still beholden to the Crown.

Did you really put Brandon Lloyd and Brandon Lafell in the same breath with Wes Welker? Any remote semblance of argument you may have made pretty much went up in smoke with that sentence.

To repeat: Edelman is the only member of the 2019 skill positions groups who would start on that 2006 team. No matter how you try deriding Caldwell overall, he's a starter for the 2019 team. No matter how you pump up Brown's age, he's playing ahead of the likes of Meyers and Harry. No matter how you talk Gaffney down, he's playing ahead of Sanu.

The irony of saying that I'm just looking at a bunch of names, when you've got Harry "easily" starting, despite the fact that he's been nothing but a name (first round pick, N'Keal Harry!), and Dorsett (Whom I've been 100% behind as trade return for Brissett) "easily" starting, despite all of his struggles in the second half of this season, isn't lost on me. And that's the point, in the end. Even as bad as those 2006 WRs were, they'd be ahead of the WRs here. The top 4 would be:

Edelman
Caldwell
Gaffney
Brown

and Dorsett/Harry would be looking at WR5/WR6 in that group (and that's a hell of an indictment of whatever the hell Sanu's been to this point). I'll leave you to try arguing White over Faulk, and Michel over Dillon/Maroney. White v. Faulk might at least be interesting, but Michel's not even seeing the field in 2006.

At least you didn't try arguing for the FB and TE spots, so we've got some points of agreement.

Stop it. Age 35 Troy Brown was washed up and everyone knew it, including Troy, which is why 2006 was essentially his last year. His burst was gone. That 2006 WR corps was clearly worse. The fact that they had to go to old man Brown on 3rd down vs. the Colts, for a trip to the SB says it all (thanks again Heath, for that too many men on the field penalty before the 3rd down fail). One first down and the game is over and Manning only real SB (Denver won despite him) never happens. Still pains me.

So much BS in one post....I’m embarrassed for you, and that’s saying something.

The guy had 4000 yards. Look at how he started the season. Clearly he has been hampered by something but i still blame the personnel. James White is their second leading receiver. They don’t have a number 1 or number 2 next to edelman who has been playing hurt as well. Had AB not been released his numbers likely would have been 31 or 32 tds with 8 ints. Mix in the crappy OL play at times.

Did you really put Brandon Lloyd and Brandon Lafell in the same breath with Wes Welker? Any remote semblance of argument you may have made pretty much went up in smoke with that sentence.
And yet their statement is correct. Wes had exactly 0 thousand yard seasons without Brady. Wes with Brady was a force to be reckoned with. Wes without Brady was a mediocre receiver. Just because their names are in the same sentence doesn't mean the point was they're equivalent players.

Dude you just called Wes ****ing Welker mediocre? Welker would run circles around Edelman and everyone else on this receiving core.

Because the QB's throwing to Wes were TRASH. Joey Harrington? C'mon. And I'm pretty sure those offenses werent using Welkers skill set correctly. He also didnt really develop into a good reciever until 2006, 1 year before the Pats got him. By the time he got to Denver he was slowing down and he didnt need to be the primary reciever for peyton with how stacked his offense was in 2013.

Does anyone have Meyers stats? I know he hasn't been great, but I didn't think his catch % and stuff was that bad. Especially compared to other players
He hasn’t been good....sorry don’t have %....a lot is on him seemingly not knowing playbook and not being where he is supposed to be on a set play....after a few of those screwups ...Brady shuts him out...honestly I get it now....can’t have any confidence in a guy like this if you’re Brady....secondly....even when he is where he’s supposed to be and Brady goes to him...he’s been dropping fair amount....not like TC where he caught everything....

Dude you just call Wes ****ing Welker mediocre? Welker would run ****ing circles around Edelman and everyone else on this receiving core.
Welker was incredible WR here....incredible.....Edelman to me is legendary....made some of the toughest most insane catches and is the CLUTCHEST (is that a word) Mofo in Pats history....Edelman doesn’t get enough credit sometimes around the league

Caldwell might be a starter this year, but he was the Pats BEST WR in 2006. Let that sink in a second. Reche Caldwell was our Julian Edelman in 2006. He was Brady’s go to WR that year. At least this year, Brady had at least one legitimate solid WR in his arsenal which is more than he had in 2006. I wouldn’t want either WR Corp if I had my choice, but Edelman alone makes the 2019 receiving corp worlds better than 2006.

And you are missing the Pats' second best WR in 2006 - Doug Gabriel. Yes, for most of 2006, Reche Caldwell and Doug Gabriel were Brady’s top WRs.

And Michel definitely is better than a 2006 Dillion. Dillon at that point was one yard and a cloud of smoke type of RB. I’ll give you Maroney over Burkhead and I think White and Faulk are about a wash.

I don’t know why people want revise history to defend Brady. Up until this year everyone recognized 2006 as arguably the worst year in Patriots history for offensive weapons besides the QB position. Even Belichick admitted that by totally retooling the offense in 2007 getting rid of the entire WR corp besides Gaffney who was the #4 or #5 WR to start the season that year.

They were listed together, as part of one list that unmistakably implied they were equivalent. That's what happens when you make a list within a sentence. It's a pretty basic grammatical concept that is taught in every eighth-grade English class.
