I think it was an illusion to think any defense in this day in age could be GOAT. This one included. They've been exposed against top tier teams. That's worrysome. Specifically the Baltimore, Houston, Buffalo, and Miami game. And Cincinnati until the Bengals threw up on themselves.

Patriots teams in the past have always gotten better as the season went on. But this one hasn't. And motivation can only go so far. Maybe this roster, specifically the offense, isn't good enough. Yesterday was definitely shocking. As pessimistic as I am, I never gave one thought to the idea this team could lose to Miami at home. None. It was truly one of the most shocking NFL upsets in the last decade.

I know people will thrash me for being a debbie downer. But what evidence have we seen that they can magically turn this around? What offensive player are defenses game planning to defend on this team? Double JE 11. Play man. Defenses know that there isn't a deep threat receiver. They know that when Michel is in the game it's a hand off to him. Or, an attempted play action pass. He's no threat whatsoever in the passing game. I just want an x's and o's detail as to how this team would pull this off? That's a general question. Not directly meant for you.
I think they have to stay unpredictable with Bukhead and White on the field at the same time. A lot of 20 personnel. Motion them all around and give Brady every opportunity to find his ideal matchup.

If we start leaning on teams then by all means bring in Sony and Roberts, but for whatever minor downgrade Rex is from Sony as a pure runner I will gladly welcome his versatility. Brady's strengths are greatly enhanced when Rex and White are moving around the formation.

Yea I'm speaking & maybe should have be clearer abt our secondary.

Again I'd keep our front aggressive but we've gone all out at times jumping/cutting routes. Also some tendencies have been figured out. Biting on fakes/doubles (JJ), giving up inside leverage/inside routes (Gilly), too aggressive off comebacks (Jackson), TE's have been a problem. Good teams have found a way to exploit certain parts of our defense. I think we need to switch up a few things. Tinker not an overhaul. And show some different looks on Sat. Again I'll try to post some clips tomorrow if someone else doesn't. I'm too tired have to wake up at 5am.
No, this post is very good and accurate. a lot more specific (and correct imo) than most posts.

I agree. However, I fear that there are only so many ways to change cover 1. We still mixed in robber yesterday.

I will say it seemed like the secondary was giving more cushion than usual yesterday. Maybe that was my eyes failing and it was simply separation (bad coverage), but it seemed like we may have been going more conservative and trying to prevent the deep shot against our blitzes.

I also don't trust Chung as much anymore in coverage against TE's. Maybe if Jmac is back, we can use JC there like we have against Kelce

There was a good amount of holding and hands to the face that went uncalled
Coverage was the bigger problem, though. There were plenty of plays where we got pressure and had to hold for just 2 seconds, which we've been able to do all year, and we allowed someone to get open underneath.

We aren't losing to Tennessee. I predict a game where we win 27-13.

I also think we shock KC. I think we lose in afccg, but one game at a time.

we did blitz plenty yesterday, which is usually what people would associate with an aggressive game plan. we just weren't good enough

Yep. Patriots played well against the run and blitzed frequently with pressure coming pretty quickly on Fitzpatrick. Only one thing was going to defeat the Patriots D: Fitzpatrick making quick decisions, making quick accurate throws, receivers running good routes, catching the catchable passes, and the Patriots being unable to maintain competitive coverage for 3 seconds. Astonishingly the Phins did this very well and absolutely carved up the patriots pass coverage. From an 'eye test' perspective (take that FWIW) Patriot defenders seemed almost timid and/or confused by the Phins receivers. Every step left or right by the Phin receiver had the counter reaction by the Patriot defender of 'I don't know what he's going to do'. Damned perplexing that this group was unable to play man and/or unable to keep zone formations tight enough for 2 to 3 seconds far too often.
If the Patriots pass coverage pitches a game like this in any playoff game it is lights out. Patriots absolutely need what should be the strength of the team being the strength of the team.

I could see the Pats beating KC. Winning in the AFCCG would be tough, but you just can't rule out Brady/Belichick. Of course, they'd have a better chance in the AFCCG if it's against Buffalo at Gillette (if they somehow shock BAL) as opposed to the Pats going and beating Baltimore on the road... although looking back at the Pats/Ravens game this year, the Pats had about 4 or 5 plays that ultimately handed the game away. And while Wynn isn't some Pro Bowl LT by any means, he's better than Newhouse who was the LT against BAL.

If Buffalo beats Baltimore, I will literally scream.

I hope!

So you watched the entire 2009 WC game loss of 33-14 on YouTube to have a historical reference for you to be able to talk about it on this forum? And all of the other games you've talked about, for which you would've been a kid, you also watched on YouTube.

But you claim to be in college, yet you spend your time watching >10 yo games on YouTube and being negative about the Patriots on this forum. LMFAO. If you were in college you'd be getting drunk and chasing kunta in between classes.

Sorry troll but you're either:
1. a nerd stuck in a basement wearing D&D costumes;
2. an old fat dude living in a trailer with no social life; or
3. a cross dresser that collects weird asian moths with a dog called Precious.

I'm sure you'll report this post like you always do, you rat.

Being 24 and having just recently completed college, I can personally attest to a lot faulty logic here. Yes this guys a clown. But...

I spent my college years going after women (impregnating one), getting ****ing hammered and being a degenerate gambler with by buddies, living at home and also watched old pats games from when I was a kid.

yeah did all this while going to school full time and working 20-35 hours a week.

point is this dude can be In college and doing all of that

Evan Lazar and Bedard seem to think the defense has been way too aggressive in the last few weeks when they didnt need to. Almost cost them last week, cost them this week.

So if KVN is Adalius Thomas 2.0, who would Gilmore from the 09 team be? Wilhite or Meriwether?
Is it just me or is anyone else more than a little offput by KVN putting out the quote in today's article about how he's looking to get paid "a lot" next year, wherever he ends up? Ya think maybe the day after you and your whole unit stunk up the field with one of the worst losses of the BB/TB era maybe isn't the very best time for such?

I get the pessimism about the Patriots. The offense is what it is at this point and the defense has been disappearing too often last 5 or 6 weeks. But anytime the Patriots play they can win. Play good STs and maximize field position? They definitely can do that.
Play mistake free football? They definitely can do that.
Stop the run and defend the pass? It's been shaky at times but we can say for certain they have shown multiple times they are very capable of that.
Good gameplan, good practice and prep? They most definitely can do that.
Run the football? They can do that.
Passing game? It is what it is, not great, but no turnovers, convert some first downs, get a few scores? They can definitely do that.

The difference this year (besides playing in the WC round) is they have much less room for error. They really need all the things listed above to come together. It's a million miles from impossible but again it's not like other years where they could overcome failures in other areas. But let's see what happens, let's see if the Patriots can do what these things they can or may do well. Just give themselves a chance to win late in the game of any game including the superbowl, then let's see what happens.

Wow, quite a tough crowd here with Gilmore. He suddenly sucks because he let Brown score a TD on a miscommunication and last week he was stupidly (coaching) matched up against a guy he couldn’t cover alone with absolutely no help. Reading his press clippings? Questioning his effort. WTF is wrong with everyone. Yeah, be sucks now and we’ll see if he’ll ever be a decent CB again. Let’s just forget he carried the entire team on his back this whole season. Giving my middle finger to all you “fans” who build a fake narrative about attitude, arrogance, and effort. Go to your local Church and thank the good lord that Gilmore is healthy and on your favorite team for the postseason. He is literally the reason the Patriots still have a reasonable chance win the SB.

Agree. Last game definitely doesn't help Gilmore to get DPOY award because he was simply roasted by Parker. It happens but doesn't not change the fact Gilmore has heen the brightest spot of our defense all season long and deserves respect. I still believe our defense especially the secondary is painted in a rosy picture.

All these questions, topics, polls and trolls....

All I know is THIS...

There is a weird tendency some of the "fans" seem to have where for whatever reason they get delighted if the team struggles. It is almost as if they are relieved they can finally feel superior to the coaching staff or players in a very Dunning-Kruger kinda way.

It is exactly what clowns like Felger are feasting upon. Marginalize success when it happens and during the rare moments of failure emphasize those hard and call into question the competence of everyone involved.

When you have seasons where they are the best scoring defense via bend/break while giving up yards and whatnot they are being called lucky frauds.

When they have a season where they have been on a historic pace in most metrics call them frauds because of how the favorite for DPOY lost his matchup against Parker.

Under Patricia the same segment was whining about the lack of "swagger" on the team. Now that "swagger" has become a negative that indicates that egos have taken over the locker room.

There is always some narrative way. It is ridiculous.
