Tom Brady: an honest take

Tom will be back.

But I would highly assume it’s under the pretense that the offense is completely loaded up.

And quite frankly, he deserve his say on the offensive personnel decisions, especially after the cluster that happened this season.
How do they load up the offense? Through the draft- because they have not done a great job with that over past 4-5 years. Through FA? Do they have the cap space to make competitive offers for talented players that will fit in on their system? Will FA's choose NE as a choice destination if they believe TB has one more year only?

Not challenging but simply asking the questions.

Here’s a thing though. If NE is going to be doing some significant retooling do you think BB will want to retool around the skills/abilities/preferences of a short-timer Brady, only to potentially have to change things again when Brady leaves/retires? Or just start retooling around his vision of what his likely next QB will work best in? Which would imply moving on from Brady as part of beginning the retool.

You can re-phrase this questions as:

"I haven't checked. Are there any QBs with 6 superbowl rings and an injured throwing arm in the playoffs this year besides Brady?"

Yes, because games TB12 won 18 years ago when he was 24 years old and had a healthy throwing arm affect his play today at age 42, with an injured throwing arm. I see your point. o_O

Brady QBR
2010 - 111. NFL MVP
2011 - 105.6
2012 - 98.7
2013 - 87.3

Dec 29th 2013
With the completion of today's game, Tom's QBR this season will rest right around 87. In each of the last four seasons, Tom's QBR has declined. Tom's career average QBR is 90. Tom Brady will be 38 years old at the start of next season. If I'm BB, he doesn't get re-signed. I try to talk him into retiring as a Pat. He is playing well below Tom Brady averages now. He is no longer worth the investment. You can blame the offense all you want, but the steady 4-year decline is undebatable. It's not just QBR.. it's pretty much every stat that matters. They're all at 4 year lows this year. It's time to move on.

Brady QBR
2014 - 97.4. Won SB. SB MVP
2015 - 102.2
2016 - 112.2. Won SB. SB MVP.
2017 - 102.8. NFL MVP
2018 - 97.7. Won SB.

You fail.

Tom Brady's QB rating has declined for each of the last four regular seasons, including the regular season that ended today. Same thing I posted in the OP. I would be correct. If we want to go by the actual "QBR", well, he just had his worst regular season since at least 2006. Sober up.

Because he is Tom fcking Brady.

I agree that Brady has earned the starting role this season, even though he's been pretty lackluster. 2020? That's a different story.

It's funny, given the current # of agrees and disagrees with my OP, this board is basically split 50/50 on Tom Brady. I love what he has done. But I'm not loving the idea of paying him big bucks to play here in 2020.

if he stays he will start next year.

I mean I can’t predict what you’re asking me. There’s going to be some money available, but the defense will have to take a hit.

But clearly the draft, free agency and through trades are the way it gets done. Who and want I can’t predict.

And elite guys like OBJ and AB are literally begging to play here. Of course talent will still want to play with the GOAT, no matter his contract length.

Hope he goes and finds an owner who will appreciate him and do right by him. Man has lost millions of dollars by taking less than what he deserves for the sake of the team and gets left with crap.
I hate to be cold about it, but the past doesn't matter. Give him a nice retirement ceremony and a hefty consulting contract if they want to make him financially whole, but all that matters going forward on the field is winning.

Not going to read through this useless derr herr thread.

Gronk - gone
Devlin - hurt/IR
Andrew's - hurt/IR
Wynn- IRd.

Oline was basically playing injured all season up until now and last week.

Receivers

Harry- rookie/ IR/ needs time
Edelman- mangled- one tough mfer
Dorsett?? I don't know
Sanu - injured but I admit he was disappointing today.
AB- whatever that was.
Gordon- unfortunately couldn't keep it going.
Etc
Etc

Running game just showed up in the last two weeks.

But der herr Brady's 42. Derr herr he's declining. How can we gauge that when all the above are factors? You can't.

Anyway it's been a tough freaking year for the whole team and yet they are still in the playoffs and still gutting it out.

Today was disappointing but we're on to next week.

By the way, who do you replace Brady with? It would have to be Stidham unless you want to sign a cast off for 20 mill + 14 mill dead cap hit.

When Dad Brady said it would end badly he was right. Not because of Tom or BB but because of the freaking spoiled ass entitled fans.

Shyt thread.

Just to put it in perspective....

4057yds
24tds
8 ints
61% comp
88 QB Rating

Andrews gone
Develin gone
Gronk gone
JE hurt last 1/4 of year
Wynn hurt
Crap line
Crap running game
Not much at WR
Rookies at WR
Injured elbow
AB fiasco

All things considered pretty freaking good year imo.

The old dog can still hunt

Get ready to get trashed for that thread. But there’s some truth to that. If they could get him some star talent, that might be a different story. He’s not capable of taking it all on his back anymore. He needed help this time, wasn’t there.
You are right....BB did a horrible job in draft and FA this year and hasn’t given Brady much to work with and for much of season an awful OL....sad to see Brady go out like this

ughhh Andy Dalton are you kidding me....Stidham or another young gun....we will be clawing in mediocrity for years to come anyways....I’m afraid the golden era is over

It comes down to the contract and the team's long-term goals. With a 43 year old Tom Brady, we will claw our way to mediocrity at the very least if he stays healthy. However, Tom wants -- and NEEDS -- to be an elite talent on an elite team or he gets easily frustrated.

If Brady would resign for a very reduced contract, we could use that extra money to put a better team around him. However, even then the brutal schedule will likely lead to mediocrity.

I'd honestly rather just go with Stidham -- or a displaced starter like Andy Dalton for a year -- and regroup on offense as we start a rebuild.

In terms of Brady, I'm not sure any teams come calling after this falling off the cliff down the stretch. Maybe the Bears? We could be looking at Brady retiring.

Oh no what if this dynasty only has 6 championships, what a veritable trail of tears we've experienced.

6-10 next year if no TB12 with NFC West, AFC West plus Baltimore and Houston

I think it’s all about whether his elbow is a permanent recurring issue or is expected to heal and be okay. Unless he he goes nuts in the postseason, I don’t think many franchises will be bidding for him.

Ah, yes, the elbow defense, because it isn’t possible that age finally caught up to him and he simply kind of, sort of sucks now. When you can no longer blame the OL, blame the lateral epicondylitis. The elbow defense is easier for some here to swallow. He has said that he will quit when he sucks. I’ll shall miss him next year.

Hey @crowell33. Are you going to enagage with some words or is a disagree X the only thing you're capable of?

Tennis elbow and age catching up with him are probably one in the same.

We’ve gotten to the point where people are calling for bringing in Andy Dalton to replace Tom Brady.

I will now stab myself with a rusty fork because that’s less painful than reading some of these arguments.
