Gilmore needs to be play at an elite level for at least another 3 seasons to be considered for the Hall. Another Super Bowl would help the cause.

Chandler Jones deserves it more tbh

He probably needs another year or two as the best corner in the game and another three or four as a useful player; he'll have to remain a starter until his mid to late 30s. He's better than, say, Charles Woodson or Champ Bailey were at their height but Woodson and Bailey played a long time and each had a "second phase" of their career as an aging but still valuable player. Woodson's DPOY came at age 33, 11 years into his career, and he went out as a 1st team All Pro at safety. Woodson's second half of his career was what ended up cementing his Hall selection; there was a solid 8 years of his career in the middle where he kind of disappointed.

There's an element of longevity to most defensive backs who end up in the Hall. Ty Law was a great player for a long time but was never as good as Gilmore at his height, and he made the Hall, while Nnamdi Asomugha won't make the Hall even though he had two or threw years as the best corner in the league because he fell off a cliff and retired to pursue an acting career.
To your point, I had completely forgotten about Nnamdi Asomugha. What a good player and thoughtful guy he was.

Can Gilmore play well beyond 30? Charles Woodson and champ bailey where the exception. Deion also has a couple of pro bowl seasons after 30.

He needs at least 3 more great years after this year to be considered.

The only defensive backs enshrined who retired after 2000 were Darrell Green, Charles Woodson, Deion Sanders, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, Ty Law, Ed Reed, Rod Woodson, and Aeneas Williams.

Law was the only one who wasn't a 1st team All Pro after age 30 (Law did it at 29). Law is also the only one who was just a two time 1st Team All Pro, as Gilmore will be after this season. Bailey did it three times (and was a four time 2nd teamer). Everyone else had at least four 1st team selections, topping out at 8 plus 2 as a returner for Deion, and most had several 2nd team selections as well. Revis, who will likely go in on the first ballot, had four first team selections. Dawkins, Williams, and Bailey are the only ones without a ring, though they all played in Super Bowls.

Idk about being better than Champ in his prime. Gilmore has had two great years but Champ was elite for a long time. He was as good in man, better in zone & just as good if not a better run defender. Champ did it from start to finish, just played on some ****ty teams. There was one year he only allowed 4 comp out 35-40 passes. 10 INT/20 something PD. 2004 or 2006 I believe? 200+ PD & 40 TFL. Gilmore was Very good in Buffalo but never on Champs level imo. Again two elite years but not the consistency of Champ at that level.

He absolutely, positively does not. The only players who belong in the discussion are Gilmore, Tre’Davious White, TJ Watt, and Aaron Donald. Jones is everything wrong with the DPOY award. The defense would barely miss a beat without him.

Harrison belongs in HOF for sure. And he's right Pats will have a tough time getting in. The whole process has become a joke but its still an honor. Some of these writers need to take 2 weeks off then quit.

If he keeps this up for another year or two then I’d say so.

A guy with almost 20 sacks with a chance to break the record isnt worth DPOY? If he played for the Pats I bet you guys would be all over him. And how is Darnold in over Jones?

If he somehow breaks the sack record today he absolutely deserves it.

Because sacks are incredibly overrated. There are plenty of guys who get 15+ sacks; it doesn’t impact the defense like a shutdown corner. Donald and Watt are also great against the run and not just one trick ponies.

Sacks & TFL are not overrated in the least bit. They are absolute drive killers. You get a sack/TFL & that drive has like a 80-90% chance of failing. 2 years ago it was right around or slightly above 90%.

He's 1/11 guys on the field & can't make a defense by himself like 99.9% players in the league. He definitely deserves mention even though I think Gilmore is the DPOY.

I don't know why or how anyone would ever say Sacks/TFL are overrated. Again there's a direct correlation between those stats & stopping drives.

He should have played himself out of it after this performance today.

Based on today’s performance, Gilmore does not deserve to win the DPOY

He got lit up but it's easily he's worst game by far. Could leave a bad taste for some. He's been as consistent as it gets. I wouldn't be shocked either way. Lots of great players to choose from although I think it's his to lose.

What about the 15/16ths of the season? See, if a pass rusher has a bad game, no one really notices. If a cornerback does, it’s glaring.
