People can go on and on about the “old timers” like Baugh and Graham making it over Brees and Rodgers. The fact is, it doesn’t matter if the game was “easier” back then. These guys dominated their own era, which is something Brees and Rodgers didn’t do. You can only dominate in your own time period. I’m sure they would do just fine if you teleported them here with modern medicine. But there’s no hypotheticals in sports (as much as Brady haters love to pretend that they exist). So you have to judge the players on their accomplishments and domination in their own era. Discrediting the old guys in football is like trying to discredit Ruth, Cobb, Wagner in baseball, and Russell in basketball

Otto Graham was a single wing rb in college. High school kids have throwing coaches today.
Play design, coaching, training, passing game knowledge, rules etc are so different now you just can’t compare eras. Plus you can’t breath hard on a QB now and back then they were treated like the other 10 players.

Disgraceful embarrassment from the Saints once again. Keeping in mind this happened just about a week after the entire NFL world put together all of their tribute videos and as kissing for reaching an arbitrary number (that was all of 2 TDs more than Brady.). Brady has never once had play stopped and an over the top ceremony like this.

So after the collective praise fest from the entire nation, no “Congrats” tweet from Brees himself for the guys who made it. No congrats tweet from the organization for the guys who made it. Just a bunch of angry fans flooding Twitter to ridicule photos of Sammy Baugh and embarrass themselves that they’ve never heard of most of the QBs on the list.

Maybe they’ll change the rules again to review voting selection that is “egregious”?

NFL 100

this basically sums up the average football IQ of a fan. The top 5 voting was

1. Joe Montana
2. Peyton Manning
3. Tom Brady
4. Drew Brees
5. Brett Favre

That comment was obviously from a Saints/Brees fan but you’re so stuck on your passive aggressive Brady sucks shtick you’ve been doing for a long time, that you can’t help yourself.
Brady’s the greatest QB ever.

But I’m also not some insecure pink hat who needs to denigrate other great QBs.

Brady already has more passing yards and TD's than Brees. It's just that the most important games of a players career are not included in the totals.

I really like Brees and consider him an all time great. He has played some great post season games where his defense failed to seal the deal. But unfortunately for him actual outcomes outweigh what ifs. Being lucky or unlucky is sometimes part of the deal. He has benefited from playing in a dome and mostly warm weather venues most of his career, has thrown more passes than anyone in the history of the NFL often due to this weak defense and has arguably passed for more yards and TD's in losing causes than anyone who has ever played. Unlike baseball individual stats in football require context. A TD pass down 21 with a minute left is not as valuable as one down 4 despite what the box score may say. Because of all this I do not think Brees belongs in company of the top 10 QB's in the history of the league. Great player, HOFer, just not enough team success to put him over the top.

Wow I may need to block him

Very, very well written and sums up my feelings about him as a player. If he wins another championship (without getting dragged there like Goober), he is in my top 10.

Meanwhile how the fck was Bart Starr not on the list? And not even a mention about him. Both Starr and Bradshaw won 9 combined championships, 4 SB MVPs, and each won a regular season MVP.

I’m personally sick of the tiresome “Brees got screwed” narrative for every MVP vote, playoff loss, all-time ranking snub, etc. The act has gotten so tiresome.

I want that little defensive Saints fan to come back and go on another defensive rant calling everyone defensive again. That was hilarious.

It reminds me of that time I shat my pants at a party and criticized how everyone else had a funky odor about them.

...at least Joe Cool picked Tom in his Top 3 GOATS. So nice of him.

Yeah, but he made it clear he was just picking best of each era (obvious implication he was the best of the one not accounted for.). It was hilarious when Warner choke slammed him by making it really, really clear that Brady was #1 and surpassed Montana, who was now pushed down to #2. Didn’t even try to be diplomatic about it...lol

Do you have a clip of this? I have to see it

It was on the reaction show.

But why John Elway???

+1. I respect Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers, etc. That being said, the QBs who play in domes 9+ times per year have a definite statistical head start.

.

I predicted weeks ago Brees was only 50/50 on making it and that Rodgers wouldn't. Eisen in an interview let it drop the QB reveal would be the most controversial of all. I know that screams ratings grab but the way he said it makes me think even more that at least Rodgers is out.

Which honestly he should be. He's really the 4th best QB of his era behind Brady, Brees and Manning. Some of the other lists had the 4th, 5th or 6th rated positional player from the 70's and I was eye-rolling.

Baugh, Unitas and Graham were on the 75th team so they're locks.

So 6-10 IMO

6. Manning
7. Marino
8. Favre
9. Staubach
10. Elway

I went 10 for 10 on who the list would be which is different than saying who my top 10 are. There was just zero chance Rodgers was making it and I had big doubts about Brees knocking out Marino or Favre who IMO were the most likely to fall out if he did get enough support.

I do discount a some of Brees's numbers playing in the dome just like I do for Manning. You look at guys like Brady, Rodgers, Ben and even Eli and their numbers go up a notch or two playing the domes even though they're road games and the dome guys go down especially in windy conditions.

I will say Brees unlike Manning and Rodgers has had less clunker playoff games. Manning and Rodgers have had some epic stat games against bad defenses and even against good one ended up with some stat padding at the end while losing. Rodgers and Brees unlike Manning did play lights out in their SB winning years.

It's a large puzzle when you're assessing these guys. People like Chris Simms want to declare Rodgers the GOAT simply because he plays the same style Simms did at a higher level. Others want to just give it to the guy with the most passing yards. When Matt Ryan retires with more yards than Brees is he the GOAT? I don't even think he's a HOFer, or at least shouldn't be. Phillip Rivers shouldn't get in either, nor should Eli. It's the total package players for me. Brees and Rodgers are definitely first ballet HOFers but based on where they were in their eras I hardly think these are huge snubs.

Plus just playing in the modern era accounts for statistics. In 20 years there will be half a dozen new all time leaders in statistics. There will still be the same all time leader in Super Bowls.

When they pick a list of greatest they want it to stand the test of time. Putting Brees on it will leave people wondering in 2040 why the 9th best accumulation stat guy with one SB was considered top 100. You already see this with guys like Fouts and Favre where they have tumbled down the list of greats and will continue to do so.

Marino is the exception because his numbers were not just an accumulation of being slightly better than the rest. He had several seasons where he put up numbers so much better than anyone there was no comparison for the next 30 years. Guys like Brees, Rodgers, Brady, and even Manning never dominated the stats like Marino.

Yea he did caveat it. He can't handle Tom being in the catbird seat.
