I would also add Pedro Martinez to that list. He was the GOAT pitcher.
I would say Big Papi is the other one, such a clutch hitter.

Ten guys in an 8 team league? Thanks for making my point for me.

Sports wasn't like it is today. Guys made more selling insurance.
I didn't make any points for you.

GOAT QB
GOAT NFL player. Period.
GOAT Boston athlete.

The crazy thing is that’s he’s not the GOAT Boston athlete. That’s still Bill Russell.

All this talk of Goats, who do we put on the Boston Mt Rushmore?

I think 3 are givens:

Brady
Russell
Ted Williams

4th for me is a tough one because I like to pick 1 from all the major sports (Bobby Orr) but it’s hard to leave Bird off the list.

Orr is easy. People bring up Bird but when was he ever considered the GOAT at his sport or position? Orr was the GOAT D player and can be argued the GOAT NHL player. Obviously Russell and TB are there. Williams was the greatest hitter ever and missed 3 years of his prime to military service.

Technically Teddy lost 5 full years. 3 for WW2 and 2 for Korea. He had a few ABs in 52 and 53.

If he had 5 more full seasons he would have had a real shot at 700 home runs

In Birds defense, he played in the toughest era of basketball. It was the height of the NBA as far as star power.

If you think the 80s teams the Oilers overcame were pushovers you are a victim of your own bias. The Islanders were a dynasty when Gretzky pushed them aside. Furthermore : the Oilers WERE the dynasty. Unlike the Bruins, Edmonton didn’t allow other teams to rise. They were still very very strong competition.

Manning was the GOAT I guess - because he kept losing to NE & it is wasn’t for them he’d be 7 time champ !

The Boston Bruins allowed to Canadiens to rise.

Hilarious.

Agree but I don't think Larry is the GOAT. IMO he's behind Rus and MJ at #3. He's in the Wilt/KAJ area and ahead of Magic and LeBron.

Revisionist history at its finest.

Tell me why these game are so close and why the series went 7 games if the Celts opponents were all Bums?

1957 NBA Finals - Wikipedia
Turn that round - If Russell was so great, why did they struggle against a sub- .500 Hawks team? Coming out of a western division that was so weak, no one had a winning record?

And you try to call my history revisionist? please.... stop.

I didn't make any points for you.
of course you did. Otherwise that list would be three to four times larger than it was, populated with guys off the top of your head.

Brady is the King of Boston Sports. He has achieved more than any other player, in a league where the goal posts moved every year because of their successes. The Patriots win in spite of the league changing the rules trying to bring them back to par.

The competition is over. And its not even close. There is Brady, then there is everyone else.

Bad argument.I was born in the 70s. If it were the 80s to now I could name 100s of players and it doesn't mean they were better than the ones I had mentioned.

I wasn't the one dropping names.

He’s definitely on the Sox Mt Rushmore

I remember looking at the stats for all pitchers all time. Pedro was at or near the top in more stats than any other pitcher.

You claimed the Celts beat up on no talent insurance salesmen.

The NBA series went 7 games in 1957 and the Celts lost in 1958.

Seeing how you unsubstantiated your argument, I rattled off several HoF players which defeated yours.

No, I said selling insurance was a viable option to playing professional basket ball in the 50's and 60's.

So they went 7 games against a team that was under .500 ... and lost a year later to the same hawk team ... I'm sorry but i'm not seeing where this is helping you...

You stated that the Celts did not face good players.

Then Boston should not have lost if their werent that many good players to fill 8 teams.

you brought up five guys. That made my point for me. Those guys were the best of the best spread out over eight teams. And two of them were on the lakers at the same time. So how does that not make my point that there was not a concentration of elite talent in the nba during that period of time? So again, I thank you.

There is Brady, and then there are the rest. Feel free to argue who is 2-4, 5 or 6 whatever. We all know the 1 is TB12.

In an 8 team league meaning that great talent was condensed and not diluted like today.

Russell is the Boston GOAT.

I had the privilege of seeing Russell play against Wilt in the playoffs at the garden. He defined team basketball. However, he was only ONE of five players on the court at a time. Obviously, you have more of an impact. With Brady being ONE of eleven players on the field, all trying to reach same goal of scoring points, for such an incredible stretch of time, well, that defines the GOAT in my book.

I said the talent pool was limited ... Whereas you said it was concentrated because there were only 8 teams... I disagree with you.

They didn’t. Nor did they stop them. The 80s Islanders and Flames were great teams. The 70s Bruins would not have won any more Cups vs them either.
