How the hell did J.C. Jackson go undrafted?

We can likely thank Nick Saban for the heads up on another great SEC player.

BJGE and Jamie Collins were other low cost finds.

I think this guy is scratching the surface in terms of potential.

It must be noted that he has the best CB in the NFL taking (out!) the other team's No.1 WR on a regular basis.

Has genuine ball skills, learns really quick and the UDFA thing will keep him humble and hungry - also solid in run support.

Another great find, and great coaching up, too.

J.C. Jackson on shows the folly of draft prognosticators and those who make millions off of this guessing game we call "the draft"...

Including slot we might have 3 of the top 15 CBs in the league. Along w DMC who's been a top 5-10 S this year. Our secondary is as good as it geta. LOB-Type good.

It's the best pass defense since the 2002 Bucs.

he was as much an SEC player as Randy Moss was an ACC player.

well after this season he is no longer our best kept secret . Every team knows what he is capable of and some team will throw a lot of money at him. I really hope we can lock him up before that happens .

he is under contract for the 2020 season. We don't have to do anything yet.

Jason McCourty likely gets cut to save 4 million and your corners are Gilmore, Jackson, Williams and slot CB Jones.

Also I would love Stephen to say dominant in his 30s like Champ Bailey TY Law and Charles Woodson but I wouldn’t count on it.

For all the complaints from fans about the draft, the Pats have done wonders with their UDFA's. Butler, Andrews, Jones, and Jackson have ALL been recent impact players for the Pats. Eventually Myers might be added to that list, he's off to a good start.

Chandler Jones is one of Bill's best picks that doesn't get mentioned enough. He was a big time project. Tall & lanky, all arms & legs. Came into the league using basketball hesitation moves at first. Again total project. Now he's on a HOF pace in terms of his stats. SB winner. All-pro, multiple pro bowls.

One thing you have to factor in & something I always try to remind myself is Bill is looking for specific guys to a T. Not that he doesn't like certain players or think they'll be great but he's looking checking certain boxes specifically for him. How that prospect will effect the locker room? What role he'll play, will he have a role on this team? Cost now, down the road. He's a different guy that looks for different year to year.

Jackson was a Gator for 1 full season. Why do you believe that Saban would not pre scout him and keep tabs on a highly ranked player in same conference? Its like saying that BB does not bother covering every minute NFL personal detail when Saban and BB are cut from the same cloth and have the championships to show for it.

I dont buy that Saban would not have a detailed breakdown on Jackson.

A four-star member of the Gators’ 2014 recruiting class, Jackson was rated as the No. 21 corner in the country; the No. 37 player at any position in the state of Florida; and the No. 243 recruit overall by Rivals.com. He played in the 2014 opener, but missed the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.

Those numbers show me how we’re getting away with zero blitz

Fair to wonder why Bill insists on drafting corners high every year when he gets great ones undrafted but whatever lol.

But, I think JoJuan will be a weapon vs tight ends. He looks to be a bit of a rare talent.

The Gilmore/Jackson duo might surpass the great Mike Haynes/Raymond Clayborn combination of the late 70s, eartly 80s.

so does he not fully buy in mentally? Or does he fully buy in mentally but hasn’t reached his potential yet

That was after his rookie year, so I'm not sure where things stand now.

But his PT has increased from 38% to 65%.

He will be a big weapon against all the bigger WR's that are coming into the league these days.

I think he will be a real good one down the road. Jackson and Jones are going to be paid by someone very eventually and it will be good to have perhaps an upgrade as a replacement. Clearly Bill has determined that strong secondaries are the key to today's offenses.

He knows it's a #'s game. You have to be able to cover in today's league. Cover multiple talented WRs. Simply not enough to have a good/great duo. You need 3-4 deep with S's that can cover too. Esp the top tier teams like KC, SF, Minne, NO ... Imagine having Sammy Watkins as you're 3rd-4th option & a guy like Robinson who can't get on the field.

  • Jackson's career passer rating against on deep passes 20+ yards downfield is 0.0.
  • In 30+ games he's surrendered one TD (Travis Kelce).
  • In his one matchup vs. an elite WR in 2018 he held Juju Smith-Schuster to his lowest output of the season - 4 receptions 40 yards 0 TD
His first two seasons are similar to Sherman - elite ball skills, incredible deep ball defender & accumulating absurd passer rating stats by facing WR2s & WR3s.
