Edelman dealing with tendon injury in knee.

Why the fuk did BB have to bring Edelman to Cincy????? He was completely unnecessary for this game. Some common sense would be nice.

.

I agree. I wish he hadn't played against Cincy. That's an entire week of rest and recovery lost, on the verge of the playoffs noless, to beat a basement dwelling team he wasn't needed for.

Stupid BB laboring under the delusion that there's no such thing as a gimme win in the NFL. What a complete and utter idiot that guy is, can't wait until Kraft replaces him with a real coach. Gase should be free soon!

You are so right, fnordy. Belichick has never ever held out an injured player for precautionary reasons before. Edelman was the difference maker between defeat and victory last Sunday. It was all worth it!

Nothing like a little 20/20 hindsight.

How did you rupture it
Though I have time to come up with a more exciting answer, it was simply trying to do too much and rushing around while packing the bed of the truck for tailgating the next day. Took a misstep on a set of stairs and ended up with my leg behind me. Thought I dislocated my kneecap as that was in a place it didnt belong, however an MRI showed the rupture.

Don't want to get into this because its silly but one angle you should look at is the difference in targets/receptions between the Bengals game and the rest of the season. They already gave him a light workload to manage the injury but still tried to make the opponents allocate some resources to him.

I think the only game he had fewer targets (5 this week) this year was the Miami game in week 2. The last time he was in the single digit range was in week 5 (9 targets) against WSH.

Am sure he still was double covered this week at times opening up things for others even as decoy.

Is it ideal ? No. But lets not pretend that they ignored his injury and called it business as usual.

I posted the exact same thing in the pregame thread and the GDT. It made no sense then and it makes no sense now.

It is what it is.

He was getting 3 treatments per day during the week. He was useless (or in the case of him getting flagged and negating Harry’s great long catch, less than useless) in the game.

I hope that bringing him to Cincy and not giving him time to rehab that patella tendon doesn’t bite them in the butt.

I didn’t post about the Brady elbow situation before the game (so @fnordcircle would be right in THIS instance) but they should have given Brady the week off also due to that elbow. They needed neither Brady nor Edelman in that game. I hope they didn’t win the easy battle just to lose the difficult war.

They’re playing on wild card weekend if they lose. This is an offense that BADLY needs a bye week. They also lost to the LOLphins on the road in 2004 and the Browns in 2010. BB remembers that. If Edelman felt he could go, there was no chance he wasn’t.

This is why Gronk used to get hurt when Brady was in his bad stretched. Just complete and total abuse on Gronk due to the "Brady Lock" problem that crops up, when he shuns other targets.

Then Gronk wouldn't be able to finish the year. This happened in years with perceived bad weapons.

Heck, I remember when people whined about Brandon Lloyds 74 catches and 4 TDs as a 4th choice for Brady in the offense in 2012.

Sucks, but its not surprising he's trying to gut it out.

What?

Edelman had 40 snaps, his lowest in years, and outside of some poor throws by Brady, even to Edelman himself, Harry was the clear difference, along with the run game being actually used throughout the game for once.

He's been overused each of the last two seasons... Plus let's factor in last yrs playoffs..... Wearing the guy out.. this is like herm edwards wearing out Curtis Martin... It eventually takes a toll

edwards just picked up where everyone else left off with Martin.....he actually got more touches under parcells

if brady trusts you, you will be beaten to a pulp....and underpaid

Ouch with a capital O.

Thank you! Even more reason why he shouldn't have even traveled to Cincy.

What did he add?

He could have stayed home and gotten 3 treatments each day on Saturday and Sunday and rested that patella tendon. We aren't talking bruised ribs in this case.

Yes, and what happens if they lose to the Bills this week? We need him healthier for THIS game far more than that last joke of an opponent. From the reports, it sounds like that Cincy game set his knee situation back further.

I thought Sun Tzu had some advice on knowing which battles to fight........;)

It’s either tendonitis or a tear. Surgery is the most likely need there which means that anything before then could be considered a set back. If you don’t want him to play at all, or he simply cannot play, put him on IR and shelve him for the season to try to find an offensive identity without him in the next two weeks. But if he can go, considering what’s now on the line because they coughed up a couple of hair balls to the Ravens and the Queefs, he’s GOT to go. Opponent doesn’t matter. The bye is what is the most important. Now, that said, if they clinch the bye week this week, I’d be all in favor of shutting him down vs. Miami.

If Brady leaves/retires hard to see Edelman wanting to play though injuries anymore.

Want to thank those that commented as even my surgeon has indicated that this is an uncommon injury. I'm no athlete and its beyond frustrating as to the slow progress. After some research it appears locally the Ghost, Mayo (one of my favs) and recently Brandon King dealt with this injury. If you have had this injury it would help if you have had encountered and could offer some advice. TY

As I recall Gronk mostly got hurt on weird plays (broken wrist on PAT with rebreak weeks later on light hit) or dirty play (TJ Ward etc.) that had nothing to do with "Brady Lock".

The only way they’d clinch a bye is if they beat BUF and KC loses at CHI, but I agree that if it happens he should be shut down for what would amount to 3 full weeks.
