Chiefs had funny contingency plan to avoid forfeiting Sunday

If AB couldn’t play in an old helmet and players are supposed to use one helmet all year, surely the NFLs player safety rules wouldn’t have allowed this to happen.

My first thought. With all the player safety stuff the league would allow one of their teams to run across the street and grab some potentially unapproved and ill fitting equipment?

Add Boger to the payroll? :)

Alternative is having to pay back advertisers so yeah probably.

So, if that had happened, how would we feel about Masconomet Regional High School?

Traitorous opportunists, or just doing what any of us would do, or both?

Hmm player safety or not being able to play in one of the most anticipated regular season games this year. I wonder which way the NFL would
lean on this one?

Jeez, if the high schoolers helmets were anything like the ones I used to wear, they were many years old and stunk like heck. I can't imagine these millionaire players would stand for that.

Come on now...... it’s just sports and good sportsmanship. I’d like to think they wouldn’t be viewed as traitorous opportunists.

This was pretty funny:

Chiefs had wild backup plan in place to avoid forfeit against Patriots if equipment didn't show up

They were going to borrow helmets from a local high school team to keep from having to forfeit. That would have been funny to see them out there with random helmets
Yeah that would’ve been safe. To take helmets which haven’t even remotely been properly fitted for a player’s head.

The League would have never allowed it. However, I don’t think they would’ve had to forfeit if the equipment wasn’t on time. The game would have been delayed an hour or two.

You've been on this board since 2012. Slow learning curve? :)

Let's face it - next time BB has to make sure the plane goes to South America after the drop off to make sure this plan works...

There was a time...in the not too distant past...when most of us would have thanked them for giving the 10--2 Pats the opportunity to show its superiority on its home turf to an 8--4 team with an overblown sense of itself and to demonstrate the inevitability of the December/January failure of Andy Reed teams...but, now, I guess "not so much"...

Yeah. My kid plays HS football (backup this year) and there's no way the NFL would or could have allowed that, given the level of most HS equipment. In fact, there's a chance that my son will be starting QB for his team next year. If that happens, we're going to buy him at least a Division I helmet in his school's colors...we've already started looking around.
