Josh McD: “I need to get Harry the ball more often”

4.52 is really good at Harry's size

He's 6-2 225

Getting open every game.

Edelman 12 targets - 8 receptions - 95 yards
White 7 targets - 5 receptions - 27 yards

The Freeloaders

Harry 1 target - 1 reception - 12 yards.
Meyers 3 targets - 1 reception - 35 yards

and Sanu and Dorsett didn't show up?

Meyers and Harry are our #4 and #5 WR's.

#4 WR is OK for a rookie WR injured for half a year.

One issue is that he isn't doing much as a #4 WR. Unfortunately, the lack of production from Dorsett and Sanu makes it necessary for someone else to step up.

These guys were hardly top WRs. Ok so that's your expectation for Harry, to be a 4th WR. Okay.

Antonio Brown ran a 4.5 so is he too slow as well? I'm pretty sure everyone has been begging the Patriots to resign him.
Where are you getting your information? Antonio Brown ran a blazing 4.35 on May 23, 2016 -- six years after his combine time of 4.47, not 4.5. And again, yes, those fractions of a second make a big difference on the football field.

Should at least get Harry the ball on some Cordarelle Patterson type plays. Harry is pretty nimble for a big guy.

Also should pull the plug on Sony for Bolden. Need to be less predictable, too obvious to tell if it's a run or a pass and Bolden is a lot more versatile.

I don't know about pulling Sony for Bolden, but Bolden should get more snaps given how the other backs have performed. Bolden has caught 9 of 11 targets and averaged 4.5 ypc this year. It's a smaller sample size, but he adds options due to his ability to run, catch, and block. He could even take some snaps at FB with Michel out there, which would allow them to run against a light box and pass against a heavy box.

It's no panacea, but with Sony having the lowest yards per touch on the team and the most touches, something needs to change. White isn't likely to survive the season at a 60 snaps per game clip, which is what he saw last week.

Time to face facts:

Harry is slow.
Harry needs an hour to get in and out of cuts.
Harry runs at least two out of three routes wrong.

do how do we combat this:

we have to limit Harry’s route tree, slants, crossing routes and come back routes.
We have to run pick plays to help Harry get open.
We have to put Harry in a position to win, where he can use his size to shield defenders from the ball.

I'm still waiting for actual facts

I don't know how any team would want to hire McDaniels. I am not saying he's bad, but man does he panic to avoid the run game when trailing and refuses to use the 2 back set to establish some deception for both the O Line and Brady to look better than they have looked.

It's like he has to have All Pro talent at WR and TE everywhere to be able to function, while ignoring a really good RB group.

Easily the most overrated coach BB has ever employed and he owes it all to even being given a crack at it by BB, calling plays for Tom Brady.

If only it were that simple. But still, this is exactly what McDaniels should say. Not only does it take some heat off a rookie who is still wet behind the ears, but it's also how any professional should carry themselves. He can't control what Harry can and can't do at this stage of his career, but he CAN control how he uses him and focus on getting him in the best position he can find. Worry about what you can control, and let the rest of the chips fall as they may.

Absolutely.

For years, and years and years some fans have whined about not having a big WR, likely including Brady who was so spoiled with Moss and that kind of size and athleticism.

Our own fans move the goalposts on topics regarding the team when Brady isn't playing well.

If 40 times were an indication of effective speed on the field, Dorsett would be winning more deep routes than he has been. So much emphasis on a number that doesn't even remotely reflect game conditions.

Exactly. I thought that 1st read look in the red zone vs Dallas was the right idea. Use Meyers more between the 20s (he needs a rhythm a little bit/his drops are due to pressing and only being used a few times per game, IMO), and once you get down there, have Harry master like 10-15 red zone plays, with the idea he's the first read in man coverage, if it's there (smaller DB on Harry, etc).

This is on McDoofus and Brady to not only make sure is at least attempted, but part of the younger WRs feeling a rhythm in the offense.

Harry was a 1st rd pick on everyone's draft board in the league. Skipping OTAs and acting snobby with young WRs or FA WRs, is not a good look from Brady.

4.52 would be really good for a 6-2 225 TE, not for a WR.

Some of you guys get way too hung up on 40 times, they don't really matter that much. Look at Dorsett, dude ran a 4.3 and when's the last time you saw him beat anyone deep by more than a step? Deandre Hopkins ran a 4.57, and when's the last time you saw him have any trouble getting open downfield?

Harry's size/speed/burst combo is more than enough to get open, which is all that really matters.

So, I don't think the good OL, Scarnecchia, etc, the RBs, have forgotten how to be good or quit or are at end of the careers.

I think this is playcalling, some confidence, and conceptual approach-related stuff.

It's not talent.

Cordarrelle Patterson is not better than Sanu and Hogan is not better Harry, talent wise. And, the Dorsett thing is confusing to me. He's been steadily progressing and then all of a sudden has been ignored since Sanu arrived.

Very strange.

Well, he did it twice on Sunday and had to wait TWICE for the deep ball from Brady. Let's not get all silly here. Brady's deep ball kinda sucks unless it comes off playaction.

Heck, even Edelman had to wait on the flea flicker.

I just think it's funny Sitdham had Meyers looking like vintage Charlie Joiner in preseason, just by simply throwing him the ball on a simple route and him catching everything, and now Meyers can't catch.

Not buying it.

FFS you absolute clown, you're literally blaming Brady for Meyers dropping passes that hit him in the hands. This kind of stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Your second mistake was comparing preseason to actual NFL football. In the preseason Meyers was being covered by future insurance salesmen, and now he's being covered by actual NFL corners. But hey, any time you can blame passing game dysfunction on a QB two years removed from an MVP, rather than the WR corps that literally leads the NFL in drops, you can damn well be sure that geniuses like PatsDynastyX2 are going to do it.

As far as whether you buy it, it doesn't really matter what you buy. Idiots frequently 'don't buy' facts.

Just a quick reminder: We're talking about a spectator sport.

I think I agree with you but FFS this is no way to talk to someone.

I would have liked to have seen the last play in the EZ go to Harry and not JE. Love JE but Breeland had it easy batting the ball away.

As long as Harry is physical and knows how to box out DBs (a key), hes the logical choice in that situation.
Yeah. Edelman definitely didn’t try to high point/snatch that ball. It was disappointing.

Harry must be bad in practice or he'd get more plays. Surely they can come up with safe ways to let him do his thing until he can be consistently trusted in coverage.
Im at work and don’t have the quotes on me, but I thiiink I remember several players on the O & D that ha e commented on how outstanding he does in practice. Am I remembering incorrectly?
