Yes, he probably bears some responsibility. But it was a harmless, innocent documentary being shot by outside contractors. I doubt he gave it a second thought. They were filming directly in front of Bengals front office personnel, after all. The biggest problem are the hysterical, incompetent idiots who love to stick it to the team that has been outclassing everyone else year after year for two decades. Can’t beat them, slander them and confiscate their draft picks.

Not only that, we have no idea how many people were in that press box. There could have been a 100 people in there and he probably didn't even see the film crew once the game started...

Just saw this.
I'd be willing to bet that the contract between the NFL and its Franchise Owners stipulates that the owners are directly responsible for the conduct of any contractors or individuals who are permitted access to players, staff or areas related to the field, players' facilities or game itself. Heck, they might even be liable if someone gets food poisoning from a licensed vendor.

Right. But the "problem" here is that they didn't tell the Bengals the Pats had a film crew in the stadium. By all accounts, the Pats film crew asked for and got permission from the Browns to film in their stadium. It was a stupid oversight not to ask the Bengals if it was okay. I'm not sure how a video crew that has nothing to do with BB and turned over all footage they recorded to the League is some kind of scandal for BB. I know the optics aren't great but if you look into this story outside of the headline, it's pretty clear what happened and the Pats have been out in front of this thing since it came to light.

From the Athletic article by Howe:

The producer didn’t recognize that rule, in part because Kraft Sports Productions is
granted privileged video access behind the Patriots’ bench during games.
...
The producer didn’t recognize their preferred game-day access was restricted solely to the Patriots bench and not to other teams.

The lack of attention to details by whoever was running that project is astounding.

And the producer never thought to ask? It seems like common sense that you wouldn’t be allowed special access to every team. Just stupid stupid stupid.

I’d imagine his response was kind of like when George Bailey found out uncle Billy lost that $8,000. “Well someone’s going to to jail and it isn’t me “ ... knowing full well it’s him who’ll take the heat.

Not really. The NFL knows how the film crews operate. These guys weren't under the auspices of BB. And, like I said in my previous post, the Pats had permission from the Browns to film in their stadium. It's not like they were doing it in secret. The only mistake made here (again, not by people under orders from BB) was not asking if it was okay to film the Bengals.

A sincere question. What stops you from just ignoring "Crybaby fans" and sports media if it drains you that much ? Just turn off the radio and ignore uninformed people with a smile.

If a flat earther comes around with his weirdo opinions you can also just brush it off.

Being a fan doesn't mean you have to participate in the entire circus.

I rarely watch any sports shows and do t listen to WEEI anymore, but even then the narrative is pretty much inescapable, and I’m burned out on both that and listening to friends parrot this ****. And overall I have been more and more turned off by the NFL, hockey is far more enjoyable for me. I’m not worked up and angry about it, I’m just sick of it, and I have been moving in this direction ever since deflategate, which was complete horsesh.t.

All true. And the team will pay the fine. But BB is taking the public hit: most of the rancorous hot-take finger wagging has been directed toward him and he has been the face of the organization on this so far. Mostly it’s his legacy taking a hit, just as things like the NFL 100 series and Saban show are showing him in a positive light.

It is just entertainment. Go with what you enjoy most. No question there.

We're talking about a 23 year old kid, most likely. When spygate broke, they were teenagers and probably dont even remember.

****. Until now, I thought this would actually end well...........

You act like people actually care what those talking heads at BSPN and other networks are saying.

Don't know what the proper protocol is, but its the Brown's stadium, and they were told. If I go to your house, I ask you for permission to bring my kids, not your other guests. It is up to you (Browns) to let your other guests (Bengals) know there are kids (video crew) coming. So I'm not sure what they did is so far out there.

However, the should've definately informed the NFL (bank).

Ok, but if a guest is going to be videotaping my kids, I'd like to know....:D

BB's response tells me this is much ado about nothing 0- that will probably cost New England a pick.

I can't believe there's any way he would come out that strongly if he in any way was involved. he would have mealy-mouthed it, coughed up some phlegm and such. The price at the other end of being caught in an outrage performance would be too great.

To illustrate the much ado about nothing aspect of it...

Why is the NFL waiting this long to issue a statement or fines? Get this over with and move on. The longer it takes, I feel the worse the punishment will be. Want to focus on football, not this crap time and time again.
