The fact that the videographer REPORTEDLY said something to the effect of "I'll just erase the video and we can forget about this. deal?" makes me a bit nervous. You would think that the best case reaction would be "shoot, I apologize, I didn’t realize I was not allowed to film the sidelines. I was not filming anything specific, just trying to get some additional footage, take a look for yourselves…". Or maybe he wanted to erase it because he was zooming in on the cheerleaders.
I’ve been thinking about this (alleged) quote. It’s impossible to know what was meant when we don’t even know what was really said... however, if I may theorize....

I think some are trying to paint a nefarious intent to the quote, akin to a man who knows what he did was wrong and is trying to weasel his way out of trouble by destroying the evidence. I think it could just as easily been something like “gee, you know, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to film the sidelines.... let me erase that footage for you...” from a guy who had no clue what maelstrom he had just initiated.

That probably was said too, but it’s clear that Cincinnati is intentionally leaking the most damaging details without any of the context.

Probably Cinci guy said you cant do that and film guy guy said, ok I'll erase it.

If it was a free lance crew who did this, the person who hired them needs to lose their job, especially if they didn't tell them the filming rules...

Freelancers? Like people will buy that cover story. Remember the movie Telefon with Charles Bronson? These are deep cover operatives activated via post hypnotic suggestion. Belichick searched the Whitepages in the Cleveland area, made some calls, read some poetry and these people dropped everything, went to Paul Brown Stadium and started filming the Bengals sideline. Some poor slob's programming degraded and he's out there, trying to film the sidelines on his neighbor's Madden game.

Heard it was a freelance crew locally from Cleveland

Yup. Also keep in mind that this quote about erasing the tape is from a vague source, and we have no idea if it’s real. Sort of like 11/12 footballs. I don’t think anyone should get too hung up over it.

Look, to all of you who are complaining about the patriots still having video guys...gone would be the behind the scenes footage we love seeing in DYJ and on social media. Personally, I'm fine with it, but the video production department needs to get on the same page as the football operations as to what is permissible filming.

I am a 34 year season ticket holder, who only
Watches football. I could care less about the “do your job” crap.

I know a lot of people can’t get enough Patriots stuff, and I am sure I was guilty of
That at one time.

These days my lack of respect for the msm & the Boston sports talking heads, has me only watching the games.

When the Pats are on the road, I turn on their game at game time & I turn it off when it is over.

I don’t need Gary Tanguay to tell me about the Patriots.

I get far more relevant information in this forum than anything I can get on TV or on the radio.

Brilliant! “William Stephen Belichick” fits perfectly for syllables.

I know but we already decided to do it with sugar bear ray hamilton (& Ben Dreith... although nothing good rhymes with Dreith)

I definitely like "My name's Bill Belichick/Where's your ****in neck?"

I'm just amazed that tape is still involved. You wait til BB gets his cyborg camera eye and data recorder.

Hope so but that’s what we thought before deframegate - that somehow Colts were being investigated or will just be a fine. Look what happened. Hoping that’s not the case here.

The Pats definity need to tighten protocols up a bit around Gilletts. First, they let McNally and Jastrmeski handle the footballs despite the rules saying only the refs can do it. Now this.

Sideline Gatorade drinking controversy

Main article: 1975 National Football League player beverage controversy

In an incident dubbed "GatorGate," on October 6, 1975, NFL security caught a Cowboys assistant serving orange-flavored Gatorade to players on the sidelines. The NFL rules state "No commercial beverages of any kind are permitted to be in use on the sidelines, on the field, or in the locker room during the game which are not sanctioned by the league." Only the lemon lime version of Gatorade is listed as authorized for use in the NFL, although there is no restriction on varying flavors or colors. Lions coach Rick Forzano, a former assistant at the Naval Academy when Roger Staubach was quarterback, tipped off league officials that the Cowboys might have been serving illegal beverages. After the game, the Lions formally complained to the league.

On October 11, the NFL fined Cowboys Head Coach Tom Landry $500,000—the largest fine ever imposed on a coach in the league's 55-year history, and fined the Cowboys $250,000, both the maximum fines allowable under league rules. Additionally, the Cowboys forfeited their first round draft pick in the 1976 NFL Draft. Pete Rozelle, an alumnus of the University of San Francisco, said that he fined the Cowboys as a team because Landry exercises so much control over the Cowboys' on-field operations that "his actions and decisions are properly attributed to the club." Rozelle considered suspending Landry, but decided that taking away draft picks would be more severe in the long run. Alouicious Tomase, New York Daily News columnist, stated Landry should have been suspended by Rozelle for the Cowboys' next game against the Giants. Freelance sports reporter Chris Mortensen reported that the Cowboys' Gatorade was likely spiked with illegal steroids.

Landry later issued the following statement:

I accept full responsibility for the actions that led to tonight's ruling. Once again, I apologize to the Schramm family and every person directly or indirectly associated with the Dallas Cowboys for the embarrassment, distraction and penalty my mistake caused. I also apologize to Cowboys fans and would like to thank them for their support during the past few days and throughout my career. [...] As the Commissioner acknowledged, our use of orange Gatorade had no impact on the outcome of last week's game. We have never used orange Gatorade to obtain a competitive advantage while the game was in progress. [...] Part of my job as head coach is to ensure that our football operations are conducted in compliance of the league rules and all accepted interpretations of them. My interpretation of a rule in the Constitution and Bylaws was incorrect. [...] With tonight's resolution, I will not be offering any further comments on this matter. We are moving on with our preparations for Sunday's game.

Several coaches of other teams admitted using orange flavored Gatorade. Ultimately, the only technical violation Rozelle was able to determine the Cowboys committed was the use of blue and white colored coolers instead of the common green and orange coolers.

The sanctions against Landry were the harshest imposed on a head coach in league history.
Consensus seems to be a fine for sheer stupidity, rather than picks or suspensions because of any kind of nefarious motive.

I feel like if we cheated, news would have broke by now. I'm okay with a fine.
However anyone involved in that stupidity needs to be fired.

Well, technically, it wasn't tape, it was an SD card.
