Why would the film crew doing a puff piece on some random scout finish up and then stick around for the explicit purpose of filming the Bengals sideline for an entire quarter until being thrown out if there was nothing nefarious going on? They decide to just do it themselves or, far more plausibly, was this whole thing a front to just give the team plausible deniability if they ended up getting caught.

Really? They would do it to show what the scout is looking at. Good God.

It doesn't matter. They did it.
See: Spygate, Deflategate.
We get no pass anymore.

Might as well get "Cheater" tattooed on my F'n forehead

It's over.
Cheaters for life.
Done.

F'n idiots.
I'm embarrassed.

These Bastards used us

You're being emotional and irrational. Turn off the electronics for the night, go read a book and sleep.

If I'd ever see a guy with Cheating tattooed on his forehead I'd assume that his woman might be a bit of a crazy one.

Hate to say it, but if there is anything nefarious in that footage, my guess would be that this time, Belichick will pay the price and McDaniels may be coaching the team over the final weeks and into the postseason.

Really hoping that this is being overblown and that this simply is as innocent as the team appears to be trying to say it is. If not...I don't have a good feeling at all when it comes to how it might play out and this could be really, really ugly.
I think you're overacting, admitting it was a mistake is what you have to do with herr Goodell. Maybe a fine at most. Fighting him is where you get in trouble.

Not a great thought Ian. Nothing to do but wait and see.
I agree...that's why I'm really hoping this is nowhere near what they're making it out to be.

So you think it can go from "honorable" to staging a "Do your job" series and then using that to specifically get hand signals that you can't possibly use against the 1 win Bengals?

They went through all that the whole entire year specifically for the Bengals game. This scheme that cost them a lot of money, just to get footage of the sidelines in an era without hand signals, was used against the Bengals.

They didn't use this scheme against the Eagles, or the chiefs, or the Ravens, or the Texans.

They were saving it for the Bengals.

Man are they losing their minds, collectively? What a stupid thing to do.

Jesus, the whole organization went full ******ed

Did the MLB punish the Astros for actually cheating yet? Amazing how NOBODY cared about that real story.

I believe Belichick is an honest person of integrity, with tremendous respect for the game. I do not believe that they would film in a nefarious manner with the intent of gaining strategic information, and then release a statement filled with untruths.

Until proven otherwise, I believe the team when they say it was a harmless misunderstanding.

Some of the posts in this thread are a remarkable study in mental illness.
I was about to say the exact same thing about the Pats production staff

I have always thought Belichick was honest and honorable. He might take things to the line, but not over it. But if they were filming like is alleged - it is Bill and not Kraft - and I am going to be very disappointed.
Yeah Bill is so worried about the bungles he sent a team out in broad daylight to film them in front of everyone and thought he could get away with it, get a grip.

It blows my mind that this big of a deal is being made of whether they were or weren’t filming a guy standing in full view of 70,000 people.

Agreed. I think it depends what they meant by filmed inappropriately. The tape will tell us the story.
If they’re filming signals... not good.

Why the Bengals? This whole DoYourJob series was a set-up all year to steal hand signals from the Bengals?

If the league was competent, they would have made the statement explaining what happened. But they would rather stir up controversy with the Patriots being called cheaters once again.

If they were trying to steal signals, this seems so unnecessary. An iPhone with a mini zoom lens is all you need. Jesus.

Wait, nobody on here actually thinks that the Patriots were actually trying to cheat in this situation, so they???

And with this thread we get to see the full extent of the damage from watching 3 years worth of fake news. o_O

It’s far more likely that they’ve been doing various versions of this and they finally got caught.

As the NFL continues to roll out a television production in which Belichick is the star attraction...

The whole idea is kinda awkward. Was the ideal plan to do a story on the scout without actually showing any of what he was scouting?

Yeah, it depends on what the film shows. Were they filming the scout the majority of the time, and panning to the field only occasionally?

Were they filming the field for the entirety of the game? What/how were they filming? Any particular emphasis/focus? Perhaps trying to show what a scout is looking for?
