It looks like AV has reached the end of his career and is being carried by Frank Reich in spite of his recent horrendous kicks. There's no way that Belichick would do that.

When I look at the 20 year kicking history here, we've had Gost, Gould briefly and AV, three of the best ever. Had the Pats known that AV was going to leave they would have kept Gould.

Now for the big question. If AV gets into the HOF which uniform will he wear? He's been in Indy for much longer with more kicks so I think Indiot blue should be his color.

i don't believe that inductees go in the HOF as a member of a certain team (ie with a uniform). The teams played for are listed, but the bust doesn't have team colors. I could be wrong..

Well, this is the football HoF and not the baseball HoF, so it's an inapplicable question since inductees aren't portrayed in any specific uniforms.

But if they did, I imagine he would be in an Indiot uniform.

I don’t care what uniform he wears. If he gets in it will ultimately be what he did in a Patriots uniform. Those 3 kicks alone are what separates him from any other great kicker that is not in the hall of fame.

Doesn’t apply to the NFL but I’d imagine he would go as a Colt and there wouldn’t be much to think about.

every exceptional kick AV made was in New England.

The only thing Indy adds to is the longevity aspect of his career.
He didn't leave on good terms and at this point has spent significantly more time as a Colt than a Patriot. I would expect that if he had to pick, he'd pick an Indy uniform.

Without the NE kicks on his resume, AV is just another kicker.

Patriots fans know that ... Colts fans know that ... Adam Vinateri knows that ... How come you don't?

He seems to see himself as a Colt. I think he’s even staying there after retirement.

So what. He's going to retire a Colt and will have spent the majority of his career as a Colt. He last played for NE 14 years ago. Those kicks in NE are certainly very important (but it's also totally incorrect to say that without them he is "just another kicker"), but it comes down to how he feels. And I strongly expect he views the Colts as his primary team (especially, again, given that he left NE on bad terms).

Did AV leave on bad terms? I just remember it being the Patriots did not want to pay him what he thought he was worth and the Colts did plus a chance to extend his career indoors. He was dreadful in the playoff loss to the Broncos in 05 and I’m sure that played a role in the decision to move on from him.

Agreed though. Plus the Patriots won 3 without him.

Irsay says AV will retired as a Coke

He was a Major Piece to that early Dynasty. Those kicks he made in Blizzard conditions, Pressure situations in Two SB last second Game Winning Kicks. I don't care if he goes in wearing his Cousin's Evel Knievel Outfit, He's moon walkin' in to HOF as Patriot to me.

Its totally incorrect to say he's just another kicker without the SB/AFCCG kicks? Those kicks were certainly important .... really? He made his bones on those kicks. He is going to the Hall of Fame because of those kicks. Otherwise, what stands out?

lets play a game ... you name the best kicks of adams career ... off the top of your head ... in one column we will have Patriot kicks and in another Colts kicks ... Go!

He had many great kicks as a Patriot. His best, IMHO for the Colts (but not his best overall) were in 06. he scored all the points in the division game against Baltimore, in Baltimore. Colts won 15-6. Colts went on to beat the Pats in Indy and the Bears to win their only superbowl in Indy. Coach Dungy could be seen on the sidelines saying "money" as one of the kicks went through the uprights.

He can wear the Indy blue but everyone including Adam knows his HoF kicks were as a patriot.

What stands out? A TWENTY FOUR YEAR career in the Not For Long stands out. The big money kicks he made here certainly stand out to us and we love the guy for them but the HoF is about the totality of a career. Ol' Adamatic Vinamoney knew what he was doing making Indy his choice when he left, good for him.

With a lesser kicker Patriots do not win SB36 or even get there. And Bill does not get the chance to show the league how to stop the Rams offense. And perhaps the Rams dominate for a while longer. Brady likely doesn’t keep his job. And its not a certainty that the Pats win SB38 or 39 either

As for the Colts I would argue they don’t win the Super Bowl in 06 with Vanderjerk. Remember how they beat the Ravens in the division round 15-0? That wasn’t Manning that did that.

AV’s legacy can’t be dismissed.
