Curran (again) - Are these Tom Brady's final days with the Patriots?

Whatever happens at the close of this season with Brady is still anyone's guess...most of us should've learned not to trust the tea leaves by now. Either way, the day Brady does clean out his locker for good at Gillette will be an absolute gut-punch whether we were expecting it or not. Brady not playing for the New England Patriots will have a devastating psychological impact on New England's sport psyche to the likes we have never seen. For me personally, I hope it ends amicably, but we all know how professional sports works and combined with huge egos it probably won't be a storybook ending which is why I try to shut out all of this noise and try to enjoy each season as Brady's last. I feel like I've been doing this for about 2 years now and what a phucking ride...

At least as likely is that Brady would play for one year for $27M and then leave us with a $34M dead money hit, $61M for ONE year. If Brady comes back, it will be with another deal that is effectively one year.

In your example, there would be a $17M bonus and a $34M option bonus at the beginning of Year 2.

.

IMO, it's retirement or play for the Pats in 2020. Personally, if I were BB...I'd just write a check with a HUGE signing bonus and back load salaries on the end. Something like 3 years 100M with a 51M signing bonus and salaries of 10, 15, and 24M....for cap numbers of 27M, 32M, and 41M. Then we can renegotiate the salaries every year if needed....and cut Brady before year 3 for a 17M dead money hit.

Right now, I don't care if Brady blows up our cap...I want to watch him play all the way to the bitter end.......

I prefer to wait until after the Super Bowl to deal with the various Brady scenarios.

I pray for a WR like Cooks right now. Someone who can at least get down field and create something.

I'd take Cooks back for half of what he's making now

Eli's gonna look great as a member of the Patriots...

Whatever happens, happens. It’s been the greatest run in football history and most of us were alive to witness the whole thing.

Whether he stays and continues his legacy, retires or moves on, we’ve been blessed with a lifetime of memories to enjoy. It’s up to each fan to deal with it in their own way afterwards. Are you gonna be the fan that moves forward to the next QB, The one that compares every qb from here on out to Brady? Have BB or the next coach proclaim “Bradys not walking through that tunnel?

Maybe take a break from football in general? It’s been an intense 19 or 20 years as a fan, could understand if people did. Been a lot of changes in the game, some very good, some very bad. For some I know the Brady/BB connection has kept them around these last few years.

If some people think that makes me not a fan then I guess that's their prerogative but it just strikes me as a weird kind of gatekeeping. But I've been called a non-fan because I still like Garoppolo and root for him when the niners are playing some random NFC team that has no bearing on the Pats, so I realize that people have weird and wildly divergent standards I guess.
I can't see how you can be a fan of Team X if you are actively rooting for your binky to beat Team X. Rooting for your binky to do well -- totally fine. But rooting for your binky to beat Team X says you're a fan of your binky, not of Team X.

Montana and Manning both finished with other teams so you never know. I wouldn't be mad if he decided to leave for a team that is "all in" to win another championship. The Patriot way has been great but not so good for a 42-year old QB.

It's not up to Brady alone. The Pats have to want him back too. If the Pats decide that Brady is struggling and it's time to move on, Brady's desire to remain a Patriot doesn't matter. I think Brady coming back in 2020 depends on how he does these next couple of months. It doesn't necessarily have to be a SB appearance, but I would think the offense has to get a lot better.
Pats will want him back...for the right price.

The only downside to being 10-2...

It’d be almost as bad as when fourierseries was banned

What did he do? I think I had him on ignore so hadn't noticed...

Be nice if they cut Adam. I think he’s more likely to go on IR though than be waived. Seems like the kind of guy that wouldn’t want to move and be embarrassed and Colts would respect that.

He was becoming too powerful and was a threat to Ian.
It was either Ian or Fourier and I’d argue it was a mistake.

Some ground breaking analysis we’ve never gotten back on this board.

I can see him retiring as much more likely.

The only fit I can see for him in other team is the Chargers who are tired of Rivers and is LA based. Let's remember Brady is a brand, he has a lot of business he is growing and his wife also needs to be somewhat close to a place like LA or NY. He's not moving to ****ing Detroit.

Me: Hey what's up. Hope all is well.

So we would just exchange through PayPal after the fight?

I have no problem with that if that's the plan?

We don't know each other, obviously but I'm very much a man of my word.

I'm working until 330-4 depending on what goes on today but will be on later/tonight and prob even check in at lunch.

FS: Yep, sounds good

Me: Would you still consider raising the amount?

Say 2k?

FS: Absolutely

Me: No need to leave the forum buddy.

Only thing I took away from the article is Kraft spent 18 months brainwashing Tom into taking a contract that helped out the team. Kraft also showed up before noon at the Asian spa to get an Early Bird special.

Both of these are somehow related, but can't put my finger on it. I guess Kraft is a master negotiator.
