Considering how BAD 'the last jedi' was... yeah they needed to pull out all the stops to reform the image of the franchise. And bringing back the original creator for some input, well duh that has to help, right?

40 years ago, Lucas vowed never to be a sellout and funded ESB and ROTJ himself, with the proceedings from ANH. He was the last filmmaker ever to secure merchandising rights to 100% of everything related to his films (studios have ever since retained that right, because back theen they had no idea how valuable merchandising was).

All of this made him a billionaire several times over. Yet he sold out, in the end.

So this is 100% on him.

Disney isn't a film company, it's a corporation. The bottom line is money, not whether you like their movies or not. It's why they keep redoing "Frozen," "Aladdin," and "Beauty and the Beast" it's all part of their ******** 'risk-adverse business model.'
