Curran (again) - Are these Tom Brady's final days with the Patriots?

Curran is carrying the Brady camp's water. I really wish Krafty Bob didn't agree to the no franchise clause - handcuffs the team so when Poor Tom leaves as a free agent after this season the team gets nothing in return other than salary cap relief. This will be Kevin McHale all over again...

It's not that much cap relief. I think there is a dead cap hit of $13.5m in 2020 even if he walks. Of course, I defer to Miguel on all cap questions.

I don’t know if brady is looking for 30 million at this point of his career. It’s hard to judge his year because of the personnel. He started off well then the injuries with the OL. I would love him back but he might be fed up with this year and just move foward.
He might just be sick and tired of all of it. When you reach a certain age, you just don't have the patience. It wouldn't surprise me if he retires or just move on.

That being said Brady isn’t worth 30m a year.

Of course Brady's worth $30m a year.

I will root for Brady to torch the Patriots if he ends up on a different team. Sorry not sorry.

If true, that's weird. I think Tom values winning above all and having the highest-paid WR's does not appear to correlate well with accomplishing that. Looking at this list, how many of these teams are SB bound?

NFL's highest paid wide receivers (average salary per year):
  • 1. Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr.: $18 million
  • 2. Raiders WR Antonio Brown: $16.7 million
  • 3. Buccaneers WR Mike Evans: $16.5 million
  • 4. Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins: $16.2 million
  • 5. Rams WR Brandin Cooks: $16.2 million
  • 6. Vikings WR Adam Thielen: $16.2 million
  • 7. Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins: $16 million
  • 8. Browns WR Jarvis Landry: $15.1 million
  • 9. Bengals WR A.J. Green: $15 million
  • 10. Packers WR Davante Adams: $14.5 million

Not only that, but how many SB rings in aggregate have those 10 WRs won in their entire careers to date?????????

As they say in babseball - 'Chicks dig the long ball'...........and FFL fanboys looooovvveeee the flashy WRs.

Football is 53 on a roster with 46 active on gameday. The list above is proof of what that means.

I'm slightly tired of the narrative that Bill has hung Tom out to dry with his offensive weapons. In 2018, he drafted a 1st round RB, in part to hopefully take the pressure off Brady. He had given him a top quality passing back too. He had Gronk (who by the way at the beginning of last year was still considered an all world TE), a future hall of fame in Tom Curran's eyes in Julian Edelman, plus some decent complementary pieces...Hogan, Dorsett, Allen, Gordon etc.

This year has been tough but it's not as if Bill hasn't tried. Gronk's late retirement derailed some free agency plans, and he brought in AB, drafted a first round WR, and traded for Sanu. It hasn't worked out but the pieces are, or at least were, there for this to be a competent offense, if not world beating.

Could I compare the Patriots to the Seahawks for a minute, who are making it work with similar weapons and a mediocre offensive line. Lockett and Edelman are comparable. Harry and Metcalf are both high pick rookies. Carson/Penny and Sony/White are similar. And then there are a couple of jags behind them. What's the difference in effort there? And the difference in results? Well Wilson is playing at an MVP level while Brady is *****ing about the offense. Clearly Brady is not the problem here but he isn't playing hugely well. I do wish he would go back to 2003 Brady and find a way to make things work a little better.

Curran will be on WEEI in a couple of minutes.

Remember...Russell Wilson "decides when plays are over" and usually hits guys downfield when he escapes the pocket. A completely different QB/Offense....even if they have a worse OL. Apples and oranges.

And I AGREE that BB has done all he could....except for trading away Thomas too quickly.... what else could he have done? Golden Tate? He went hard after Adam Humphries too.... It isn't like all pro WR's are on the street out there....well except AB, but that's a whole different thing...

It will be sad to see this break-up when it doesn't have to.

Without Brady, the Patriots are simply not a contender right now. No way.

But I can't say that Brady moving to a team, for instance, like the Vikings doesn't improve them to make them a huge SB contender. It does. The prospect of Brady throwing to Diggs, Thielen, Rudolph and Cook would worry all NFC teams instantly.

This is the problem. Brady might have it in his head that any discount must come with big signings at WR/TE.

He doesn't need Brady. BB will be just fine. Fat and Happy.
Am I crazy or did the guy not lead like 3 huge touchdown drives in the AFC title game less than a year ago on the road lol?

Sure, so did Manning with the Broncos. But the only reason Manning got a ring with the Donkeys was their true, elite defense. Otherwise, his noodle arm would have been his demise.

Manning broke records in his first year there.

The question is - which team will upgrade its current QB situation with brady and make it to the SB ? Chargers? Raiders? Lions? . Brady in the regular season with these teams is not a significant upgrade with those systems and players. Playoff brady is a different beast.

Really? I see him as a big upgrade to those teams.

But the Vikings and Bucs need him even more. The Vikings would become instant contenders.

I'm surprised we don't hear more about the possibility of Brady going to the Titans? Coach Vrabel...a bunch of ex Pats. They have some serious talent on offense. They just need a QB

Will Tom be effective in a different system? He seems pretty upset when the receivers arent doing exactly what he wants them to do.

I think he'd be ok with them if they're open.

It will really suck to see my favorite player with another team, but anyone rooting against the Patriots might want to stick to fantasy football.

If Brady leaves, I hope it's for the NFC.

Diggs, Thielen and Cook? Look out.

There will eventually be a separation and at his age it's more probable than not. With 6 sb in the bag and playing with house money, I'm ok with either outcome.

Gronk left because of money. He was due a bunch of money that he was never going to get at his age with his injury history. It was clear last season that Gronk got slow, but he was still a tough matchup out there. In retrospect some sort of deal should have been worked out. 500 yards and 5 TDs via the TE position would look good about now.

2018
Gronk 682 yards 3 TDs

2019
Watson 147 yards 0 TDs
Lacosse 87 yards 0 TDs
Izzo 114 yards 1 TDs
Tomlinson 1 yard 0 TDs

Total 348 yards 1 TD

Gronk was basically the only receiving TE on the roster last season. Allen 27 yards 0 TDs and Hollister 52 yards 0 TDs.

Sony is not the same player as last season. He had surgery again in the off season. Not exactly encouraging news for a 1st round RB after only 1 NFL season.

Harry is another high round hobbled draft pick. The Pats orthopedic surgeon tries to fix em as fast as BB can draft em. Anybody here expecting Harry to light the NFL on fire going forward? Not me. Santa Claus hasnt shown up too many times for me to fall for the stud NE WR fable again.

Meyers runs the wrong way vs Houston. Brady is running for his life motioning for Meyers to go downfield. Instead Meyers stops and comes back to Brady where the ball could be picked off. How do you not realize that by going deep its a safer throw for Brady because there was no other DB downfield.

Dorsett does not see the double move sign from Brady after being in NE for nearly 3 years. Ocho Sinco type dumb like when he lined up wrong in the Super Bowl.

Manning broke records in his first year there.

I think we can both agree that Brady is the last guy to give a hoot about records.
