Was The Near Comeback Something To Build On?

Problem was the Texans thought the game was over and played prevent too early. Had Bolden got the insides kick, Pats are in Texans territory with 50 seconds to win the game.
And if that had happened we would be feeling so good about this team right now.

It’s never as good or as bad as it looks.

The Pats don't run many pick plays because they almost always get flagged for OPI on them (see the Edelman OPI in this game).

Using Edelman’s play as an example is an injustice to “real” pick plays.
It’s like giving Miles Garrett a QB “hit” for his helmet beat down of Mason Rudolph.:D

no

The texans decided the game was over and were very soft.

I’ve been wondering this. It was probably the first time in over a month where the offense looked like it was somewhat functional.

Granted the Texans were playing rather soft, it was still nice to see White finally making plays we’ve been used to him making over the years. Ditto with Edelman making some nice plays late as well.

Maybe they were finally starting to get things clicking with each other? Or maybe it was just more of a product of the Texans getting soft late in the game. We shall see.

Still glad to see the offense show some life for the first time in quite a while.

This is definitely farting rainbows type of stuff from OP. The offense did diddly poo, to quote Jim Mora, until the score was 21-3 with a quarter and a half to play. The quarterback was absolutely terrible until they got down 21-3 and the opponent stopped playing defense.

And don't start with the 2016 Super Bowl come back stuff in drawing comparisons - that team had a quarterback who still went to OTAs and had some functional receivers...and the quarterback didn't focus on 2 guys all game...

The offense had ALL the pieces it is going to have this season - the savior left tackle, the supposed wunderkid first round receiver, the guy the team acquired for a second round pick this season, and the guy coming back from a concussion...

and what happened, the offense and quarterback have a golden opportunity to play from ahead with a TD after the D made a 3 and out to start the game...and they spontaneously combusted with 1st and goal from the SEVEN!

Why is the offense headed by the guy with all the answers to the test ranked #24 in red zone td efficiency? The Patriots are behind such juggernaut quarterbacks as Ryan Tannehill, Jacoby Brissett, Ryan Fitzpatrick (let that ****ing sink in), Josh Allen, Jameis Winston, Mitch Trubisky, Daniel Jones...I could go on, but I won't...

Dude, how many times can you b1tch and moan about Brady missing OTAs? This was literally SEVEN non-contact sessions. He was there the entire training camp and doesn’t take “veteran days off” like many star players/QBs. The guy is 42 and plays for the most grinding organization in sports and gives 120% effort all the freakin time. Harry and Meyers are not struggling because Brady didn’t show up in a sweatsuit to play catch with them for a few hours before the offseason program started.

No. These are the type of garbage time successes that pad stats. The Texans were dumb in playing a ridiculously soft zone and almost lost the game out of sheer stupidity. They still can’t beat a man defense, or anything besides a prevent.

I’ve been saying for years that, unless there are huge personnel advantages, McDaniels is an absolutely pathetic red zone schemer. I watch Sunday Ticket around the league and note the many touchdowns everyday whereby someone is just wide open for a an easy TD based on some creative play designs when passing from 10-yard line and in. These aren’t necessarily elite or even good offenses either...sometimes it’s just a great misdirection scheme that fakes out the defense. Not everything is on Josh, but the deep red zone problems are on him, as they have been for years. Josh’s concepts are so idiotic with four wide receivers, no screens, no pick plays, no bunches, just four one on one matchups where everyone runs into right into blanket coverage and turns around.

Yes, I haven't studied the stats, but it does seem like we always have a tougher time in the red zone than we should, and have for years. But maybe if I followed another team, I'd think the same. Who knows.

I had the Texans' defense in my fantasy league this week, my opponent had Brady. With 4 minutes to go, I had a 99% chance of winning according to the website.

I lost.

That's what I get for picking against the GOAT :p

Problem was the Texans thought the game was over and played prevent too early. Had Bolden got the insides kick, Pats are in Texans territory with 50 seconds to win the game.

If the Patriots hadn't squandered game clock 1 possession prior to the TD-onside kick, there would have been more than 2 minutes left. On that prior possession, taking 6+ minutes, the Patriots were using the full play clock between plays, on at least some plays/maybe all, down 3 scores, <9 minutes left in the game at possession start. That's not the Patriots.
And those who argue "they can't/couldn't, they don't have ____", please see the 'conserving play clock' offense on the next possession.
For those who would argue 'Texans were playing a very soft prevent, they wouldn't have if the Patriots started trying ____', please see the 'down by 3 scores, <9 minutes left' situation that required as many possessions as possible no matter the defense of the Texans.

Don’t confuse garbage yards with live play.

With that said, I was happy to see White finally frickin involved with the passing game.

little closer than you think. Not defending it, but the scores the score. A loss is a loss but there’s always circumstances that decide a win and a loss. Firstly, execution and turnovers. Had Brady not thrown the interception its a much different game. Had they called the blatant pi on the interception, much different game. Loser speak yep, they lost but they can play better. Zone was kind of a weird call for the defense but maybe the right call considering all the illnesses out there.

they can play and coach better than what they showed last night. Tough game coming up, not very confident but its a good chance for this team to rise to the occasion.

Had Brady not thrown the interception the Texans wouldn’t be playing prevent and Brady wouldn’t have picked up garbage yards/TDs.

Would have felt better if there had been a breakthrough with Harry and Sanu. But seemed to be pretty much Edelman and White.
Harry somehow doesn't even look like a natural receiver out there. He looks like a guy trying to play receiver. I guess that's just what a complicated O does to a guy.
