Question for 2020 - If Brady Retires...

If Brady retires, are you comfortable with Stidham? Or who would you want them to target?

Said it before, will say it again. In case Brady steps away I'd love to see what McDaniels can do with Mariota. Accurate in the short/intermediate game, looks like he has a quick release, athleticism to add a totally different dimension to the offense.

And what better place to try to clean up his footwork issues and ball security concerns than in NE. If you can get him to learn to take an L and not try to fight on every down even his durability issues could be handled.

That is a lot of "ifs" but I mean that comes with any QB choice really.

I agree, also should look at Brissett he grew up in this system.. and although he is not setting the world on fire in Indy, might be interesting. Not sure how you can get him though..

But all of this seems speculative as #12 will be around for at least 3 more years...

Lose for Lawrence.

If Brady retires Blough me.

No, no, a thousand times no. He was let go for a reason and is proving why.

If Brady retires???

I'm taking it day by day in life and as a Pats fan. Whatever happens happens.

I'm enjoying both. Brady has given me and my family so many great memories that I will happily endure anything that comes.

When it's time for the next guy I'll be there but right now it's just another Brady chapter so Let's ****ing go.
Awesome post...
100% agree

Can you imagine if Brady, Edelman, McDaniels, Mccouty all leave next year. Patriots will be lucky to win 5 games. Brady and Edelman (and Gronk) have covered up for a woeful lack of talent for many years

It's pretty obvious. If Brady retires then you trade for Nathan Peterman. IR Julz, Gilmore, and Wynn. Then you draft Trevor Lawrence.

This team that features a "woeful lack of talent for many years" is the defending Superbowl Champion.

Thank God for the thread ignore function.

Where's Hodson or Bishop?

In all these comparisons of the greats who moved on from their teams to others in the twilight of their careers, we seem to have forgotten that the 49ers parted with Montana because they had Steve Young, the Packers parted with Favre because they had Aaron Rodgers, the Colts parted with Manning because they had Andrew Luck.

The Patriots do not have the same luxury of parting with Brady. If Brady goes, there is no Young, Rodgers or even Luck to step in. So the Patriots are certainly incentivized to hold onto him rather than, say, signing Marcus Mariota.

Most of these hypotheticals usually gravitate towards the QB (which is totally fair, it's the most important position on the field). But I look at it the other way: When Brady retires, before I'm worried about who the next QB is, I'm putting resources into the offensive line, tight ends, receivers, and getting a FB (either Develin/Johnson getting healthy or someone else). Whether it's Stidham, a journeyman who never got a real shot, or another rookie we draft, I want them coming into an environment where they have every available support around them to succeed.

I don't want a David Carr who gets beat up because there's no protection. I don't want a QB who has to win with only one dimension because we don't have a TE who can keep the defense guessing. I don't want a rookie who has to throw it 40 times in a game because we have no running game. Get those things shored up and it let's you truly evaluate a young QB, regardless of who he is and where he came from.

All you really gotta do is start Newhouse and resign Jordan Richards then start him lol

Tough questions. Tough answers. I always thought I would drastically scale back my football watching when Tom leaves/retires. If he leaves for another team, that changes things. Would I root for him on the Dolphins? No way! An NFC team or the Chargers. Quite possibly. Going to be a crazy off season. At any rate there might be piles of season tickets available. So you have that going for you.

If brady leaves/retires I can see BB signing or trading for a veteran qb while Stidham gets more experience. I also could see Edelman retiring
