Tom finally took some garbage time TDs (hey, it’s not like half of Brees’s aren’t some variation of that.). This puts him at 535 for his career, four short of Manning’s record. I guess unlike the massive festivities when Manning approached Favre’s record, this isn’t going to be an ESPN interactive amusement park for the entire year detailing every TD. Surprise there. What was laid out with a red carpet for King Manning is a back page blurb five years later.

But this seems like a good time take a step away from the current state of affairs and appreciate the last twenty years. I don’t think this record means a lot in the history of football..it’s just a counting record that is sure to be broken, if not by Brees immediately (if Brees doesn’t get there first, that is.). But still something that we can appreciate. Anytime Fivehead gets knocked down a notch, it’s a good thing, but especially when TB12 surpasses his crowning achievement.

Am in awe of what Brady has accomplished and the multitude of wow moments he has provided me and my family as fans of the team. In the pantheon of his accomplishments this is fairly low on the list but am still happy he should pass Manning. I think this record means a lot more to Brees as his career is defined by stats while Brady's has been defined by wins.

247-72 overall with 6 Championships is the main numbers I keep track of.

Someone will break Brady’s passing records eventually... that’s just the way the league is set up with the rules favoring passing. Nobody will break his wins, rings or longetivity records.

Yep, just mentioned this in another thread. And with all the usual caveats--Brady cares about winning, it's meaningless, soon to be broken, blah blah blah--I want him to have the most in history, even it's just for a few moments and then Brees gets it or whatever. Just to be able to throw the pass, get the TD, get the record, have pretty much zero fanfare on the field, but to have the record.

Not sure why I care but I do.

Anytime I think of where Brady stands statewide I like to put an asterisk up to remind people half his games are played in wind and sub 50 degree weather. Aaron Rodgers plays 8 games at GB, one at Chicago, maybe a cold game in Philly and NY. He’s the only other QB in the stats race who plays in these conditions, 5 cold weather games each year. Considering that Brady plays 8 in Foxboro, one in NY, one in Buffalo each year, and then a game or two in Baltimore, Cleveland, Pitt or Cincy, it’s safe to say that he plays in 6 cold weather games a year.

After 6 rings the regular season stats don't matter at all, but I like the idea of Brady surpassing Peyton in literally everything, just for the sake of completeness.

He trails 9-2 in one-and-dones and 3-0 in totally unworthy MVP awards.

No one will ever outdo the heroics of Mr. Week 17, and all of his pointless regular season game stoppages whereby during a meaningless play, a certain yardage/TD mark was surpassed, the game was stopped for a massive outpouring of praise, before putting the ball in a box.

This is my personal favorite:

Manning breaks NFL's career passing yards record

Manning entered Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs just 3 yards short of Brett Favre's all-time mark of 71,838 career passing yards. With his 4-yard pass to Ronnie Hillman in the first quarter, Manning took over the top spot.

The record was the highlight of an otherwise dreadful afternoon for Manning, who threw an interception on his first pass and went on to throw three more before being replaced by Brock Osweiler midway through the third quarter with the Broncos trailing 22-0.

Manning was 5-of-20 for 35 yards with no touchdowns and the four interceptions when he was replaced. Denver went on to lose 29-13.

I really hope he plays a year longer than Brees. It would kill the stat padding dome gnome to not have the all time regular season passing yard and passing touchdowns title.

What you saw last game from Brady (3 fourth quarter passing TDs against an off zone prevent defense) is the ultimate Dome Gnome game. During the last decade, Brees seems to get about 3-4 of those games each season, along with a ton of track meet style dome shootouts, and then plays maybe one cold weather game a season at most. Brady has had maybe 3 garbage TD stat padding games like this the entire decade, often stops playing aggressive to protect the lead in the second half, and plays mostly in cold, outdoor conditions. There could not be more factors stacked in the Dome Gnome’s favor.

Brady should already have 540+ regular season tds. Those goose eggs against the bills and gints hurt the cause

Brady will do it this Sunday in 3 qtrs!

Everything else is just stats and we all know who stats are for...
