How Can the Pats Stop the Ravens?

You don’t need a defender in coverage on a running play.

Yeah, but how do you know it's a running play? That's the whole point. Any time you put a spy on a QB you are taking a defender out of coverage if he decides to throw it

Ravens are really good and getting better. Will need to score more than 35.

Driving snowstorm.

Let me play them in Madden and I’ll get back to you all.

.....because the opposing offense tells the defense they are not passing before the start of the play?????? WTF.
What are you talking about? Im talking about how to defend the option. Specifically what the unblocked man they decision off should do.

I didn’t say anything about a spy. I said that when they run option the defender who has to choose an or pitch man should always chooseQB and plant him in the ground.
Yes by the time he options to the defender who has to make that decision it’s clear it’s a run.

I think the Chargers Ravens WC game-tape needs to be absolutely dissected by every team in the league.

Lamar looked completely lost that day. No one else has come close to making him play like that since.
He’s carved that up. You need a toilet clogger DT and ends that can set the edge and ride him out of bounds or back inside and into traffic if he tries to extend the play. The Patriots can do the latter but the former is iffy at best. Especially against good interior OLs, which is what the Ravens have. I think if the two teams meet in the postseason, this will be the game in which the Patriots will have to simply out score them. If healthy on offense (especially Brady, Wynn, and Edelman), that’s a defense that Brady can carve up.

Or simply limit their possessions. We spotted them 17 points. Our defense couldn’t get some stops in the end. Our offense has start clicking on sunday night. They only have 5 games remaining to try and fix this offense.

We can’t.

Quick! Someone post this in Van Noy’s locker. :D

That 2007 pats team was showing weakness in the second half of the season. I haven’t seen that from this ravens squad. They know their offensive identity. It comes off their running attack. Meanwhile our team still doesn’t have an offensive identity. Only 5 game remaining. You would hope to see this offense finally start to click on sunday night against the texans.

Do you simply dismiss losses to the Chiefs (not a great D) and the Browns (not a great D)? The 2007 Pats team was undefeated and getting every team's A-game (how many teams from that schedule were on the playoff slate?) while dealing with incessant Spygate noise. The Ravens already have 2 losses, and having watched the recent games with the Ravens I am not calling many A-games. Last night definitely wasn't an A-game. The Ravens are definitely playing well, but the 2 losses says beatable.

I get more points are better (the Chiefs scored 33 and the Browns 41) but the Ravens ran and lost. Let's see with Wynn and all the receivers on the field if the Patriots offense improves. I believe it will, and when it's needed.

The "only 5 games remaining" sounds curiously familiar, as in didn't that come up with the D last year? It did okay, as I recall. It ain't homer believing that will happen again. It's 10-1 with a ridiculous streak of AFC Championship games that says the coach has a clue and a knack for figuring things out. Did it with the wildcat. Did it with the read option. Winning percentages are not a statistical accident.

The Ravens may be this year's Chiefs (and I say maybe). Chiefs lost to the Pats last year.

I bolded and underlined the fault in your argument.

You just DEFINED the difference maker for the Patriots.

Other teams "do what they do". The Patriots are a gameplan team.

Yes, there are the teams that "know their identity". But so does the opponent. It's up to Belichick to work a customized plan for Baltimore. I like that. I also like that the STRENGTH of the Patriots Defense is not spectacular playmakers (outside of Gilmore)- - but it's veteran DEPTH. There are 5-6 guys on that squad who can be coaches on the field. Belichick has NEVER had as veteran and knowledgeable a Defensive grouping ever. He has all the ingredients with smart veterans to attack (an admitttedly great) rock solid Offense with his most complex AMOEBA Defense ever. This squad is smart and experienced enough to handle it. I don't think any other (outside of Pats 2001 or Giants 1990) could.

The chemicals are in place for the Hoody . Not only does he have a season's worth of film on an opposing Offense that "Does what it does", he also has a full game's worth of film on how the Patriots own personnel faced up against it in Baltimore when the Ravens were fully rested off a bye.

To me, THAT is the overwhelming advantage the Patriots possess in a one-game winner takes all scenario.

Let the Ravens crush all opponents the next few weeks. The trap is set.

If they do this to the 49ers it will be impressive no matter what the homers say. If they win by double digits it will be impressive. No one has held them under 100 yards rushing this season. You gotta have good d-line play and they better be disciplined. They have pushed around every d-line this season. My only concern right now is this offense. You have to put up more than 20 points to have a chance.

Am looking forward to see how the Niners game plan for LJ.

FWIW...
the Ravens had 85 out of their 210 yards rushing in the first quarter alone vs Pats. Excluding Ingram’s 53 yard dash the Ravens got a more reasonable 72 yards over the rest of the football game.

I didn’t think the Ravens defense was all that against us the first time but they did look good last night.

LJ is truly a breath of fresh air and so exciting to watch. The most dynamic offensive player to come into the league in a long time. The fact that we passed over him for Sony makes it very painful to think what could have been. Many were 100% hoping the pats would pick LJ at that spot.
Its not just LJ, although he makes every one on that team better.

They have solid lines on both sides of the ball. Kudos to Harbaugh for having the vision and imagination to transform his team so quickly. Right now the Ravens are the best team in the NFL and its not even close. That could change with just 1 or 2 injuries, but very impressed with Raven's perfectly executed plan to make their team a championship contender
Last year the future was Mahomes. Who will it be next year?

Gotcha

The real killer in that game was Jules' fumble and Brady's INT when the game was still close

DL has to hold up on those inside runs otherwise we're gonna get killed on those RPO if we have to commit more bodies to stop those.

I just don't know if we have the personnel to stop them on those runs especially if we play read and react. I think we gotta force the issue but that also leads you open for huge gains.

Our offense has to score TD on literally every drive.

Watch what the 49ers do next week.
Copy it.
Yeah, I'm hoping someone can give us a blueprint. Failing that, I hope someone takes them out in the divisional round.

You watch Bill come out with the blueprint...
