How Can the Pats Stop the Ravens?

Let’s start with not jumping offsides on field goal attempts. God, I still get irate thinking of that play.

Until there is actually a matchup with them on the calendar this year there is no point worrying about it. People are wasting so much time and mental energy worrying about things in imagination than in reality.

That being said I thought we had already two of those threads and everything that needed to be said about the Ravens has been said. Repeatedly. Not sure why we need yet another one.

Throw away whatever fronts we used early in the last game, gotta win early on downs to get them into throwing situations, have tight coverage and don't turn the ball over.

If you get LJ to throw not 16 times but 32 times in a game there is a good chance he will throw you 1-2 INTs. And even if he doesn't don't give him throwing windows like the Rams where every practice squad QB would look as efficient.

I really hope Belichick and McDaniels can figure out our run offense. If we can run the ball effectively, then we can just keep pounding the rock and keep the ball away from Lamar Jackson, just like what we did last year to Mahomes. Control the time of possession, win the game. They can't score if they don't have the ball.

It’s a lot more difficult to run the ball downgrading from Gronkowski to scab-like tight ends, Develin to nothing, and Andrews to Karras. Gronk and Develin could block extremely well and manipulate coverages by splitting out wide as receivers. You’ll notice now there is such little motioning with the Patriots, since no one has any versatility. They aren’t going to open up the passing game by dominating the running game like last year. Better hope is that the passing game improves significantly to the point that teams need to put more defensive backs on the field.

The offense has to improve. I mean that Ravens offense is great and eat away so much clock. You have to be perfect in all 3 phases of the game. They are that good right now. If you get them off the field you have to score a TD atleast every other time. Thankfully there is enough time for the Offense to improve until January.

Jimmy G please do us a favor on Sunday.

SF struggled in 2 games this year against scrambling quarterbacks. One was Kyler Murray, and the other was Russell Wilson. Let’s hope they’ve learned from their mistakes for the game this Sunday.

If the Patriots play them again, hopefully Bill brings how much that OL holds to the refs attention. Sort of like he did with the tripping by the Cowboys OL.

I personally don’t have an answer. But I refuse to believe BB and this group of veterans on defense get punked again if we get a rematch. Not saying they’ll shut them down but I don’t expect anything close to the whooping they took the first go around.

Chiefs offense from last year is garbage compared to the Ravens.

They are that awesome. They have only punted 4 times the whole month of November

Odds are Jackson will be hurt by the playoffs anyways.

When he runs those option plays, have the defender bury him under the stadium.
Jackson must go down....and he must go down hard.

I wouldn’t want to the roll the dice that my QB is 101% healthy going into the postseason because the simple college offense breaks down. That’s the difference between the Ravens everyone else. Probably a good gamble for them, rather than some mediocre QB like Flacco getting hot again. But if Jackson twists an ankle or is hampered at all, the timing and scheme is really blown up. This isn’t like Russell Wilson where he can still just get a few steps of separation to succeed...this is an actual system dependent on the QB’s ability to also act as a RB. There’s a reason the system has been abandoned for many years. The strength and quickness of defenders at this level makes it a ticking time bomb for an injury. Noticed the Rams were really manhandling LJ when they could actually get to him, and I expect that to be the defense’s general goal until someone figures out the right personnel to make the Ravens adjust. Also, what happens in 20 degree weather with snow or rain? Wondering if bad weather gives that offense an advantage or disadvantage.

No offense, but KC isn't going to be anywhere near the AFC Championship. They simply cannot compete with Baltimore.
Now? No. There is still something gimmiky about the BAL offense to me but there is no denying their success.

Using the QB as a threat to be a really fragile, dodgy RB to improvise and manipulate the defense isn’t gimmicky enough?

It was the same thing all night. Run run run til you get to the red zone, then throw slant and seam routes to wide open receivers against the rams pathetic zone defense. How bout make Jackson throw 40 times in a game by stacking the box and playing man. If he wins that way tip your hat to him.

I think the Chargers Ravens WC game-tape needs to be absolutely dissected by every team in the league.

Lamar looked completely lost that day. No one else has come close to making him play like that since.

That tape won't help us one bit.

The answer lies in the offense hands.

don't see our defense stopping LJ at all however our offense can keep him off the field. But in this case our offense needs to improve dramatically and not go 3 and out anymore.

You have to shorten the game as much as possible and try to win it on limited possessions.

Remember the old double eagle front that shut down those running offenses? I don’t either. But they were the thing in the 60s. Basically it’s a five man defensive line. Arizona or AzState ran something similar in the 90s. It has flaws against the pass. It leaves single coverage on the outside with a single FS playing the entire backend.
Thankfully we have a coach who most likely spent 4 days diagramming the double eagle D while watching Gilligan's Island....when it was brand new.
