For any of us who have been frustrated at Belichick's insistence on devoting such a chunk of the roster to special teams "aces," I have good news--Jerry Jones agrees completely. He explained it after the game last night: anybody can do something as basic as special teams play.

Special teams is 100% coaching,” Jerry said, just getting warmed up. “It’s 100% coaching. It’s strategy. It’s having people ready. Special teams is effort. Special teams is savvy. Special teams is thinking. Anybody that can play a position ought to be a great special teams player.

There shouldn’t be anybody on our roster who can’t play special teams.”

Time is running out for Jason Garrett and a Cowboys coaching staff in Jerry Jones’ crosshairs

Yep, GM Jerry builds his roster with the belief that you choose position players period, and special teams roles are just plug-and play afterthoughts. And after losing a game due to a difference in special teams play to a team that values ST specialists, his response is to expound on how right he is about the fact that absolutely anybody could do what guys like Matthew Slater do.

Surely the best wager in the NFL over the past 20 years would have been to take the under on preseason projections of the Cowboys' win total, always based on an assessment of their shiny collection of talent. Because their "GM" has never learned the lesson about building a team.

Right on, chick. Jerry is the prototypical owner for the AB crowd here. He loves the shiny objects and bends over backwards to accommodate it. I read somewhere last week (I could not verify) that the Patriots game yesterday was their first game all season where the Cowboys were NOT the betting line favorite??? That says it all with their style over substance fooling the FFLers.

When Belichick does the breakdown with Zolak every week on the upcoming opponent, it's always very complimentary (that's his style, build up your opponents, don't take anything lightly, etc). This week, both on offense and defense, he made a point to always bring up the Cowboys speed. "They got a lotta speedy players in the receiving game, the backs are fast," or "You know they've got great team speed on defense, just at all three levels, they're really fast."

And all I could think of is, "Well, duh! 97% of Jerry Jones' draft strategy is based on 40 yard dash times!

JJ just can't not de-pant himself, he's as dependable as the tides

I hope JJ retains the GM for years to come. Guaranteed ineptitude and overconfidence galore.

Were there any kicks that the Cowboys handled cleanly? I was amazed that it seemed each kick seemed bobbled. Slater was amazing on that block! The third part of the game.

I can't wait for Dak to get $140+ Million for being slightly above average. Kill that cap Jerruh.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I feel sorry for Cowboys fans.

He's a good QB, but doesnt have the coaching to make him elite...

My God, the irony in this post. Thanks. I needed that laugh today.

I can't believe you said it either. Screw em, screw em all.
If you are feeling the need to exhibit empathy I'd like to direct your attention to the very worthy folks who inhabit The Factory of Sadness. Brownies fans merit it. Cowboys fans are...well...Cowboys fans

I spend too much time in Ft Worth, TX. I've grown attached to them.

I need to find my unsympathetic side again....

Hey, Jerruh, I’ve got a new HC candidate for you: Jeff Fisher. It was meant to be.

I don't know why but it saddens me to think your inner Masshole is anywhere other than just below the surface.

Mediocrity, the new water, finding it's level?

My pleasure, I’ll be here all week! I know you are a big fan of irony - What was the post you had the other day about trolling so hard if the Pats signed AB? :D
