Pats @ Eagles all-22 rewatch thread

It seemed like Romo was suggesting early on that the Eagles had taken some ideas from the Ravens and potentially would expose a hole in the Pats defense. Perhaps a sense he got from talking to Philly coaches in prep. And it certainly seemed that way when they were gashing the Pats on that early rive. Obviously the Patriots closed up that hole, so good adjustments.

The defense seemed to really settle down after the first couple of drives. But let's remember a couple of important things:

  • Philly lost both starting tackles over the course of that game
  • Philly did not have its complement of running backs

So we should keep that in mind going forward.

Great pickup by Mason of course but what I want to point out here is to keep an eye on Sanu. He doesn't really seem to have any idea about the play except that it will be a run. He stops and doesn't even run a pattern or blocks but stands around confused.

That is the reality of how long it can take to be up to speed and why Dorsett was essential to keep running the no huddle. Yes you can maybe have one WR in there who you can limit to concepts he has shown to understand but once you have two players (Sanu and Harry) who don't have enough experience it becomes a bit more problematic because it just limits your calls substantially.

Yeah, at the minimum Sanu should've put a hat on Mills, who came too close to making contact with White than he ever should've made.

via Lazar's feed.

This ladies and gentlemen is the gold standard of how you do film review.

None of the amateurish filming of screens with your cell phone, no terminology heavy gatekeeping of concepts but actually explaining whats going on using the medium of film and visual aids, bringing in successful examples from past games and nailing the narrative in an accessible way.

Wish there was more of that and less of the useless other stuff.

Is that you Ben?

I am not saying he is substantially behind in the offense in general. He is farther along than most would be 2 weeks in.

I am saying he clearly didn't practice that 2 pt play a lot and didn't quite understand what his role was. Unless you think it is fine that he jogs into the end zone and not even attempts to disrupt the DB from running towards White.

Here it makes no difference but if Mason doesn't pick it up as perfectly and this becomes a "pushing war" right in front of the end zone then a DB flying in from the side might be the difference.
Yea I get what you're saying abt him blocking but that's hardly an indicator of him picking up the offense.
Like he could've missed that play a few weeks ago w Atl.

Just not the best example for that, that's why I asked if you saw anything else indicating if he did/wasn't picking other things up.

I think you are misunderstanding my point or maybe I wasn't clear. This was not me ****ting on Sanu for not being up to speed but rather I was trying to say that it just takes time to get there even for veteran receivers who arguably are a system fit.

So we should have patience with rookies and new acquisitions and don't judge players now as if the playoffs start next Sunday.

Spoke with a generally knowledgable nfl friend and Eagles fan but we had disagreements on the following points:

1. Belichick and Lane. He thinks the diss at a player who happened to get concussed was classless. I disagree. The remark was coming whether he got concussed or not, had nothing to do with his unfortunate injury. It was fair game imho (he brings up how hes not surprised given Mcdermott crying about us watching the Bills practice before the game earlier this season yet it was fully legal).

2. The refs and the Jenkins “strip fumble”. The refs screwed up by blowing the play dead on a play that was deemed a completed pass. However I disagreed with him on the eventual outcome even if the refs hadnt incorrectly blown a potential live ball turnover dead (it was an incomplete pass as no football move was ever made).

3. Was the DPI call on JMac correct or a weak one? He thinks it was a good call. On review, Id say it was a borderline call as JMac’s left arm tugs him ever so slightly.

But points 1 and 2 I vehemently do not see things the way he does at all.

This is one of those classic examples that most probably stands as called and could be anything from down by contact, incomplete or a fumble just based on interpretation and gut feeling of a ref.

The receiver used his elbow against JMac as well. This should have been a no call where both players were using their hands against each other.

Way too low of a bar to give someone like 50 yards on a low percentage throw.

You disagree he did a good job ?
No I don't...very good job actually, better than Chatham certainly...just seemed that you were laying the praise a bit too thickly.

They were also missing two receivers who could stretch the field and could have been deadly in play action.

Yes, they were. So, while we should love what we saw from the defense after those first couple of drives, we do still have to take all of that stuff into account. Dallas should be pretty healthy, so that should be a good "full strength" sort of test for the defense.

I don't see what more Sanu could've done, he drew Mills away from the gap White scored through, Mills was too late getting back. Looks like Sanu did his job, but I'm no genius.
