Is Newhouse really that bad?

Bedard's been killing Newhouse all season. I'll have to make sure to listen to him tomorrow. I want to see if he does the patented mercy move of pulling back from that position, even if just for one week, now that Newhouse is likely to be relegated to the bench.

Screw it, ask Matt Light to work with him or better yet give Joe Thomas a blank check and a super bowl ring to teach Newhouse anything.

Newhouse has a future in the fare collection industry.....or maybe not.

I feel bad for Newhouse. He's a journeyman backup tackle forced into playing way over his head.

As the old cliche goes, he is what he is. Being scathing about what he is for the sake of being right is an exercise in verbal masturbation -- it might feel good and be satisfying but it ultimately accomplishes nothing Hating on Newhouse won't make him a better LT.

Also -- it doesn't help that opposing defenses know he's the weak spot which only exaggerates the problem (Newhouse gives up more in stats than he otherwise might because defense are not dumb and will attack the line at its weak spot, which is Newhouse).

In other words he's probably not quite as bad as he looks, and the fact that it's way too hard to quantify OL performance makes it way too easy to blame the obvious scapegoat whenever something goes wrong. That makes me feel like brakes should be pumped and presumptions assessed before we go too far down theat road.

Yes he is bad. And a decent amount of it is just mental lapses. For instance, he got Brady killed simply because he failed to use a kickstep to reach the DE lined up in the wide 9. That is basic fundemental football. I teach that to middle school tackles, by High School that should be second nature.

He allows himself to get flat footed, simply fails to move his feet at all other times. Haven't noticed him getting bull rushed, so not sure if strength is an issue. Honestly I try not to watch him because it angers me.

Newhouse is a backup player playing in a starting role, so I never expected much from him.

Marcus Cannon has been overlooked, though. Based on Howe's stats, he has been a lot worse than Mason and seems to be the second weakest link on the offensive line. Belichick needs to find a young RT prospect soon.

Yep.

More falling-down on first contact from Michelle yesterday.

Nick Chubb...what could've been...

And more draft Fail from Bill...what's really disturbing is that it's now becoming a 1st-round habit too...

Re-check those numbers

Isn’t that what they have in Cajuste?

Our OT's and LG's for next year
starters: Wynn, Froholdt, Cannon
backups: Cajuste, Cunningham

I think that we have a need for 2 OL's, and a 3rd if Andrews can't play.

I think Froholdt is starting at LG next year

Damn, we should've kept Nate Solder... oh wait... 8.5 sacks already this year! :) :) :)
