Pats offense is 2001 Lite
Dink and dunk and screen and punt for field position
Thank god for JE and his timely dart
Unfortunately, their screen game is underwhelming.

Unfortunately, their screen game is underwhelming.

It's because they are doing it now out of necessity Screens are more effective when they are a surprise and not every other play.

Boomer Esiason on GHS believes Patriots' win over Eagles was good one, notes offense will get better
"… This was not the Bengals they were playing against, or the Washington Redskins, or even the Giants. This is a really good, physical, experienced defensive line. I think that defensive line showed against many backup offensive linemen for the Patriots. I know we sit here and we say it wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t a Picasso, but a win is a win. You’re on the road against a physical team that is trying to save its season. I walk away from that game saying, ‘Thank God we won it, and now we look forward to next week.’”

I hear you, Moejr. Watching it would maybe give you a different appreciation for how bad the OL was and how much the O struggled. They weren't able to get a single point in the second half, and this is after they were spotted the ball at or about the 50-yard-line on two consecutive drives. It definitely was not pretty.

It is funny how ppl complain about Brady.

I don't remember any dimes yesterday (Watson one was REALLY good) and only 3 ''bad''throws

Sanu that he catch but the ball was too low

I don't want to get into a long breakdown of Brady's throws, but I did want to address this one:

The throw might have been a few inches too low, but Brady was throwing Sanu to the ground on purpose. If Sanu had caught that ball and stayed up, he would have gotten lit up, because he was running right into a big hit.

Edelman had some the worse drops I have seen by him even a sure TD gotta brush that up.

The difference between success and failure in the NFL can be quite small

would not take much for this team to have 10 superbowl trophies........would also not take much for them to have none

I am not grading him on a curve.

The point is that his limitations are well known and he is doing what he is able to. From that point on you either a) replace him with someone more consistent or b) adjust for that by adding more blocking help/choose plays that don't expose his weaknesses that much/ect.

Since a) is apparently not an option because there is nothing better on the streets or on the bench the only thing to do is accept his limitations and play around him. My point is that as much as he has a glaring lack of athleticism the OC and QB are often not doing him any favours either with the play calling and his teammates with their execution.

Is it a surprise that screens to his side are more problematic ? No. But they still get called. And. So. On.

Now contrast this with two pro bowl levels lineman (Cannon and Mason) who are underachieving relative to what they have shown to be capable of and creating additional holes on the other side of the formation that also need to be plugged at times.

Newhouse is a backup level LT who should not be starting for extended stretches of games but the issue is with OL is that everyone except maybe Thuney is being inconsistent. He is giving up less than a sack per game and approximately the same amount of QB hits and pressures as Cannon while usually facing better pass rushers and yet he gets like 95% of the rage of people.

Again this is not about saying he is playing well but pointing out that people over exaggerate how bad he has been and then paint a weird pink picture of the times we had Waddle or Fleming as backups.

Waddle and Fleming were way, way better than him.
I don’t but “the coaching staff is too stupid to know they have to act like they only gave ten players” argument.
He’s the worst OL I’ve seen on this team in many years, maybe ever.

This has been a really weird year personnel wise. Two important OL retirements; Wynn going down immediately; Harry on IR; signing/cutting AB; signing/cutting Bennett; signing/cutting Thomas; Gronk retiring; Gordon cut.

Just weird.

Maybe the weirdest of all: don't acquire a tight end in FA, and don't draft one. Then, when the OL is a mess and the young TEs are down and out, don't sign, say, Dwayne Allen.

Just weird.

And with all that, 9-1.

When the play call was “run right”, NE & Sony had some success.
“Run left”.... was newhousian

Agreed. That is how Wynn helps more than just being an upgrade to Newhouse - the opposing run defense has to respect both sides of the field. Sure Wynn will pass and run block better, but we will not need the "Brady sprint right to pass play" anymore, and we can run to both sides of the line so the opposing run defense can't overload our right. It will take a few games to get up to speed but it will improve significantly. Add LaCosse (not LeCosse or LeCossa), Sanu, Harry and Watson all playing together for 6 or 8 weeks and it should improve significantly.

Let's hope Dorsett is OK. Remember when this board had Dorsett being cut in August?? Haha. Some people say they watch the games.

This board is great. There's more hatred and salt for the Patriots here than on opposing fan forums.

That's because so many of the posters are jealous fans from other teams trying to troll Pats fans out of the pleasure of victory!

I wonder if JE was suffering from the effects from the hit he took in the 1st qtr. Seemed a little woozy getting up.

During a sideline shot he was reaching under his left pad, and he looked like he was in pain. This was after the hit where he was slow to get up.
