Yup! Don't have to look very far back to find evidence that the defense would have stopped Lynch. They stuffed him dead earlier in the game on a 4th & inches... A 4th & short at mid-field in a Super Bowl is a big deal, its a huge play that everyone is going absolutely balls out on... their coach put faith in the offense to get a few inches, and they failed.

It's one of the perks that comes with the Pats being in and winning so many Super Bowls, it's become comical listening to people's best attempt to explain away the wins... it was annoying when they only had a couple, but now its just hilarious.. "Well, Seattle WOULD have won if they just ran Lynch at the end of the game instead of throwing a stupid interception!", or "Well, the Falcons WOULD have won if they just ran the ball in the 4th quarter instead of throwing it like idiots!", or "the Chiefs SHOULD have won, but the NFL called a bogus 3 yard offsides on Ford who wasn't even near the play!", or... or .... or....

they could spend an hour going down the list lol

The Patriots remain competitive up to Kraft's purchase; Bledsoe isn't drafted by us...

Does that jeopardize what happened later with Belichick & Brady? Yes. To an unknown extent.

But, it does lessen the degree of inaccurate on-field Patriots denigration hyperbole. Makes it harder for the media to spin their story of what a joke, disaster and disgrace the franchise was.

So what happened was that Kiam FINALLY fired Berry in '89 after the season.

Eason was also belatedly shipped out of town to the Jets and then was out of the league a year later.

Kiam, obviously, as the owner, had all the authority and opportunity to sign Doug to an extension, or a new contract, and keep him here. From a PR standpoint, it was a no brainer, as Doug is and always will be a local hero, and a nationally popular celebrity.

From a football standpoint, the football people who recognized and understood and appreciated Flutie's proven ability - including many in the media - were of course vastly outnumbered by NFL morons who dismissed him due to his size [5 ft 10 in, 181 lb.] and unconventional style (no, I'm sure most of them never heard of Charley Trippi [6 ft 0 in, 186 lb.] or Eddie LeBaron [5 ft 7 in, 168 lb.]). I don't thing Doug lost a game at Foxborough in college or the pros until Tom came back to beat the Chargers in '01.

So, Doug spends the prime of his career north of the border, setting records that, even if they're ever broken, should still put him in the PFHOF.
