Official Post Game Thread-Ravens beat the Pats

1 - Sony must be playing through injury.

He is basically a non factor. The Pats only ran 17 times. Jackoson had 16 carries and Ingram 15 carries. Granted the Pats were playing from behind and the no huddle passing attack was an excellent strategy move to burn the Ravens defense out.

2 - Do people now see how Sanu forced useless Gordon out?

What a difference a legit #2 WR makes in only 2 weeks. Gordons specific routes and style is hogwash. Harry is not even on the field.

3 - This game reminded me of when the Dolphins sprung the Wildcat on the Pats defense and shocked them. This time BB expected this type of offense because there is miles of film on what the Ravens do.

4 - Did you hear Collingsworth comment how the Pats are getting nothing from their TEs? Gronk was watching. Could be the final straw on his return. Stay tuned.

5 - I cannot believe that the Chiefs beat the Ravens. Worst NFL run defense and all.

I think Belichick and the defensive staff kept some cards up their sleeve for a potential rematch.

Generally the way to beat that type of offense is to play variation of a 3-3-5 and stack the box, with nearly everyone within 12 yards of the LOS. All the more so when the strength of your defense is its speed and athleticism at LB and secondary.

They ran a more generic, vanilla defense and didn't make any adjustments as far as I could tell.

Should these teams play again, I would expect to see a more aggressive defense, closer to the LOS, with more blitzing. Stack the box and trust the strength of your defense - the secondary.

Lamar Jackson isn't a good QB. He's an athlete playing the QB position and his advantage is that teams aren't used to playing or practicing against an offense like that.

he looked pretty good to me. They will be incredibly hard to stop unless Lamar gets injured. They essentially have an extra skill position player on the field with Lamar, which is a very potent advantage but relies completely on that QB staying healthy for an entire season.

Pats defense doesn’t always seem to fair well against highly mobile QBs, but there hasn’t been a QB like Lamar since Vick. Desean Watson might be another tough challenge but he’s not nearly as quick as Lamar

I would like another crack at them but this team has to go back to the drawing board. They where humbled that’s for sure. Just bounce back.

STAY IN YOUR GAPS. DO NOT OVER COMMIT!!! That means you #58.

So I’ve only watched small amount of highlights. It seemed like we shot ourselves in the foot multiple times throughout the game, but all the errors we did have seem fixable and honestly I think it’s a good thing we lost. Will give BB plenty of work to do with the whole team.

The defense was terrible in the 1st quarter, and anywhere from 'meh' to okay the rest of the way.

The game was largely decided by a handful of crucial 3rd/4th down conversions.

The biggest takeaway is that they need to be stronger against the inside run. I imagine they'll find a way to work on that.

If the secondary is as good as everyone thinks there should've been more than 6 incompletions vs Lamar Jackson...
He didn’t throw against the secondary.
He threw 6 passes to wide receivers. One was a shovel pass in the backfield. The other 5 resulted in 37 yards.
It was a brilliant strategy, they refused to test out strength and attacked our weakness, a small front. But it wasn’t much of anything from a passing standpoint. The passing game mostly consisted of throwing 3 yard passes and hoping did 3-5 more in run after the catch.

Teaching moment for Bill. Maybe the team will stop believing the press clipping about this being the 85 Bears.

Have to get off the field. The defense didn’t have a good game especially at end. They’re still held accountable as a whole.

These guys should turn on their tvs and see what they’re saying. Use that as motivation going foward.

Some truth to that though the passes were mostly short passes (CBs and even sometimes safeties not involved). These will be high percentage in general. The question is why were receivers on third and 4 so open 4 yards down the field so often? I was astonished at how easy 3rd down conversions via pass were being completed. Patriots have been VERY good all over the field at contesting even passes that were completed. Last night converting third down with a short/mid-ish pass was astonishingly easy.
I look forward to BB and staff looking at the tape and asking how that could happen with that much frequency that easily. You don't even need to stop every to force a punt, you just need to stop it every few times. But the frequency last night of the conversion seemed absurdly high.
They converted 4 3rd downs by pass at distances of 5,2,5,4 and missed 3 (10,6,7)

They were 1/3 in 3rd down runs.

They said something in the postgame radio show that really stood out to me. It wasn’t so much what the ravens were doing scheme wise but more so that they were more physical on the line of scrimmage. Harbaugh had 2 weeks to prepare and had a good game plan. They knew the weakness of the defense if they had one was up the middle and stopping the run. It’s something we need to at least marginally improve on in the bye week.

I didn’t say they had a good game. I said blaming the secondary is inaccurate.
Frankly they allowed 5 3rd down conversions all game. That’s not where the problem was. The problem was penalties, turnovers and a couple of long drives where the run d struggled.
Their offense is the opposite of what our defense is built to stop.
We did not have a “Ravens scheme”. Hell we came out in a 42 nickel with Simon and KVN as DEs. You don’t stop Rb, fb, 2 TE 1 WR very well that way.

Because they were gashing us on the ground so those passes were there for the taking. One drive ate up 9 minutes of clock because of how they were grinding

Right being 3rd and short took away our strength. In any event 4 conversions isn’t a world beating thing. There were bigger issues.

I have believed this for the longest time.

To win the war is paramount and not win every battle.

We saw the Ravens very best last night. That bell has been rung and duly noted on a roll of film for review by BB and staff.

The Boogey Men were embarassed. I like their chances if these teams play again.

I guess I haven’t made a post yet in this thread, which is weird since I remember making three.

If they did, they were fools.
