Miami paid 4.2M for the 5th in the Talib deal
10M for 4th-, 5th- and 6th-round
Gordon at ~1m for a comp seems to fit their plan

Best wishes to him. He can help a team.
Too bad he got injured, and whatever else soured his departure. He certainly could have handled it differently. Good for him for being professional in the face of one more obstacle.
Yes you are right ...this was not handled well at all by BB or Patriots organization

He’s no longer a deep threat but has looked pretty good on intermediate routes and running with the ball in his hands. Should’ve kept him and convert him to a move TE.
Well said.....I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t have turned it around here and been productive here to some degree this year at some point....he was dealing with injuries which was slowing him down ....but sounds like was getting there....I’m honestly shocked by this move but of course we fans don’t know all the details

Half of this site, and NFL chatter is people debating
what we imagine happens within the Pats org

Perhaps the only thing we can be certain about?
Bill's bio will sell a lot of copies

I'm sure releasing Gordon isn't fun for BB. Might be one of the hardest decisions he's ever had to make. He will be missed.
Hopefully it won’t turn out to be a terrible decision

I like the kid a lot.

He did not amount to much here but I hope the professionalism he learned here helps him in life to stay strong.

Good Luck Flash

this still honestly doesn’t make a lot of sense because BB/pats really haven’t said whether it’s a physical/injury issue, or whether it’s a substance abuse violation....or whether it’s something else...this entire situation makes absolutely no sense to me

Here you admit this makes no sense to you and that you have no information about what happened.

Three minutes later you've concluded that a situation you know nothing about and makes no sense to you was "not handled well". How do you know how it was handled? You don't have any information about it.

Theoretically if he passes waivers can the pats re-sign him?

Not that this is likely just curious, rumors were he was released because he was late to meetings and what not
He is ineligible to return to the Patriots for this season. Rules under short term IR.

I understand people being sad, but if we're concerned about him as a person the hope is that he's advanced to a place where getting waived by the Patriots doesn't send him off on a spiral. He should have plenty of cash, and another team should pick him up. If he's actually OK in his recovery, should be all good.

7 years 58 games. 20 TD 4113y 17.1y/R

Hasnt been clean a year since ~2005
Xanax, marijuana, codeine in middle school
Junior year HS Xanax, hydrocodone, oxycodone at nearly every opportunity
Before games, chug Mad Dog 20-20, to gauge whether he could play drunk.
A timeline of Josh Gordon's history with substance abuse and suspensions | Boston.com

The amount of time the Pats gave him
then the sudden, seemingly unnecessary
shuffle away at point of most need?
Still not clean
The pattern for folks who start early: never will be.
It is just the way it is. A horrible thing for people
Destroys their life
End up under a bridge, crapping on the sidewalk
Spending the day hunting for more, forever
Its just the way it is

For a second I though this was a Bruce Hornsby & The Range song..

Maybe its a Butler thing...we may never know.

Comments:

a.) Hope he doesn't slip to the end of the WW.

b.) I thank Gordon for his time as a Patriot.

c.) I have no idea what happened, but if the BB-Caserio-Kraft-McDaniels brain trust thought it was time to move on...it probably was time to move on.

d.) Final stats as a Patriot:

17 games
17 starts
104 targets
60 receptions
1,007 yards
6 drops
4 TDs

Weekly average: 3.5 receptions, 59 yards, and .24 TDs per game.

He is illegible to return to the Patriots for this season. Rules under short term IR.

That's hard for me to read! :D

I remember starting with "in" and don't know how my phone got to "ill" , but thank you.
Break.
Everything about this release has been strange, even the NFL tried to make it silent and did not initially list him on the waiver wire.

I wish he could have transitioned to tight end

Really hoping the Jets get him.

Jets get Gordon.

Pats get Folk.

Seems fair.
