Trade Deadline

Not trading for OJ Howard (for example) wouldn't be because of cap space. He would only be $780k the rest of the season and with the "top 51" rule would only lower the cap space about $300k.

There is no top 51 rule outside the offseason. Not sure what the relevance here is.

Jets looking to trade Bell already...amazing

That’s an interesting note from Belichick. The old team can pay a bonus in order to make the player cheaper for the new team, but it has to happen a day in advance. So it looks like Leonard Williams will be the only example of that at this year’s deadline, with the Jets paying $4 million before trading him to the Giants.
Ya I had no idea about the 24 hours rule. Throws out a bunch of my long shot hopes for trades, haha

This pretty much rules out any trade for non rookie contract / bargain basement players. Guess the thread should be called Howard Watch or something.

That being said I am surprised that the contract needs to be processed for all of this to work out. You'd think it would be enough if you could legally prove that the restructure was signed before the trade happened.

According to that jet fan around here they’re not tanking. Lmao

That's probably much more about Adam Gase having not wanted Bell in the first place.

Could be, it’s also been reported Anderson their best wr is on the block as well.

Yeah, Gase has a history of this sort of petty stupidity with regards to personnel, which is why I'd said that we could see the Jets looking to move a bunch of players.

Trading Robby would be tanking. Trading Bell... yeah a bit, but not nearly as much. It'd be more about getting a huge haul back in return for a signing Gase wasn't thrilled with.

Edit: like @Deus Irae just said.

The Jets think they have their QB, and they seem destined to finish in the top 10 regardless of what they do at the deadline. So, are you thinking they'd be after a particular player, or are you thinking they just want to improve their position in general?

They may be stockpiling draft picks to overhaul the oline.

Sucks to lose Bell, but can't do squat w/o an oline.

Eh either way, my point being someone with a cap hit for the rest of the season like Howard's wouldn't be the holdout in a potential trade

Agree completely. He hasn’t produced in the NFL, whether that’s scheme or something else, the fact is he hasn’t put up numbers. People saying a first for him? What? I’d rather re create the OBJ package and call Dorsey up if we’re including a 1st rounder in trade talks

Well we don't have a 2nd rounder to pay for Howard because we traded that for Sanu.

With how the coach is not even using Howard right now, I'd probably offer a 3rd round pick. Maybe dangle an additional 5th round pick if he stays on the Pats roster in 2020. Would not go up to a 1st round pick for a TE in a down year that their coach is refusing to utilize.

There’s no way they deal a first for him, unless they get draft capital back in exchange.

Again, Winston literally IGNORES him.

This kid is open ALOT watching those games. Winton is basically the Walmart version of Ryan Fitzpatrick, and that's saying a lot. He sucks and they clearly don't know how to use him.

Sure, but stockpiling picks is different than tanking, and tanking was the claim that was being made.
