BB: Maybe I will coach past 70

I expect him to coach until he looks like this. 9E97D05D-639B-420E-8437-677E7D3824E7.jpeg

I think we need to remember he made that statement back in 2009 during a Football life. It was the low point of the 20 year run, most of the leaders from the first part were gone and it was not known i do not think how long the run would last at that point.

So he might of been thinking he might have more years like 2009, which would make anyone not want to coach past 70.

Now that things are running smoothly, the record is in reach, even if TB12 retires, BB can smell it and wants to go for it. And you can not blame the man.

2009...gawd

That year must have sucked the life out of him. No wonder he was thinking of bailing

Irsay suddenly runs to the medicine cabinet upon reading this news

And the other 31 head coaches just fainted.... Here they were counting down the days til they finally had a shot.

Savage, Bill... Savage

I hope shula lives to see his record broken. He's 89.

That would be great! Should take 3 to 4 more years from now for 49 more wins.

Hip hip hooray!

Like that scene in Braveheart where the Scottish king is on his death bed, and thinks hes about to hear William Wallace cry out for mercy, and instead he screams "Freeddoomm!" before they disembowel him

I'd like that to play out the same way for Shula, hearing Belichick breaking the record, but without the disembowelment i guess

Agree

And I remember his comment to Brady during the saints game. Something along the lines of "I can't get these guys to do what we need to do"

Shula might die on purpose just to spite Bill.

I remember in one of Reiss's Sunday notes (I think) from summer 2018 (I think) that somebody (maybe Reiss) asked BB what he'd been reading that summer and his response was some book "Live Like 50 Until You're 80" (or something like that).

Don Shula sees Bill break his wins record winning the Super Bowl finishing off a 19-0 season and is then disemboweled by Mercury Morris wielding a broken champagne bottle.

This is good, right? 70 ain't what it used to be anyway, and Bill is already older than Shula was in his last season in 1995. And Shula had 11 straight years of extended off-seasons due to not making the Super Bowl (and often not the playoffs) during his last decade. Not sure what it means for the JMD conspiracy theorists (me included) who thought Josh might have been given some inside knowledge about BB's plans/timeline as a sweetener to walk away from the Colts situation last year.

Anyway, that regular season record - 328 Shula v. 269 Belichick - still looks more formidable because it means putting together consistent 10+ win seasons for 5 or 6 seasons out, which certainly means fully into the post-Brady era still being very good every year. Doable, yes. Guaranteed, no. One down year and then you're chasing it...I guess at some point you have to look at HC just like they/we are looking at QB now - can this guy REALLY do this **** forever?

The overall record including playoffs - 347 Shula vs. 300 Belichick - I mean, BB could get there IN his age 70 year if they keep doing what they're doing and tack on some playoffs wins and SBs.

A) Shula's record is too tantalizingly close.
B) This defense is too rewarding to coach.
C) He wants to wait until his son is ready to takeover.
D) All of the above.
