Jeff Howe: Pats in market for a WR and TE

In cap's world, Bill should have "demanded" that ATL give us Hooper for a second. In his world, one team can force another team to make a deal that it wants.

They inquired about Howard, so I bet they asked the Falcons about Hooper. The Falcons probably weren't interested in trading him.

For those who may want to know (even though ATL most likely won’t trade him)

Bill should've demanded Austin Hooper in exchange for the 2nd-rounder...because unless the conditions of Gordon and/or Harry are more grave than we believe, then adding somebody like Slo-Mo Sanu - who plays basically the Exact Same Position as the other two - doesn't provide nearly the impact that adding a pro-bowl-calibre TE such as Hooper would've provided, especially when the cost to acquire Sanu - and the damage to our salary cap that he brings with him - is taken into account.
This looks more like a panic-stricken overpay than a shrewd business deal.
Looks like I was both right and wrong.

The Gordon situation, more grave than we knew - as I postulated - completely changes the dynamics of this trade.

Bill still overpaid for Sanu, however...that should've been the price of Austin Hooper, not him...and we are still in desperate, desperate need of quality improvements at LT, TE & FB...we're not winning #7 without them.

So many experts that know exactly what we need and how much we should pay. Who would have thought all the answers the Patriots need can be found right here? Bill obviously doesnt read patsfans.com. shame

Hopefully bb can find us another wide receiver before next Tuesday.

sounds like bb is still on the hunt for a trade.

That is what Ive been thinking as well.

The Browns game will be telling for Meyers and Gunner.

I would wager that the first 4 WRs are locked in and that no changes will be made to the RBs. The Pats are set at RB and once the passing game gets into overdrive the running lanes will open up.

We are are getting a LT in a few weeks and have an adequate TE. As for FB, we don't need to be perfect at every position to win #7.

Do we know for sure that Falcons converted Sanu’s remaining 2019 salary into a signing bonus? Could the Mason restructure be related to Sanu and not another potential addition?

We don’t know that for sure, and in my opinion it’s awfully unlikely that the Falcons did anything. They have the worst 2020 cap situation in the NFL, so they’re not really in a position to be giving away cap room.

It seems that Mason was restructured to get Sanu under the cap, and they could then restructure Sanu to push a little over a million to next year if they needed to.

And they added Bethel.

Waiving JG saves 2 m, if they trade Bennett that another 2.6m and whatever they got with the supposed Mason restructure.

Might be something big coming.

So, we restructured Mason first. We might restructure Sanu later in the season if we need the cap space.

According to this guy they didn’t need to. ‍♂️

Interesting. This is a OTC website screen grab that I sent to some friends about Sanu’s contract/cap hits yesterday morning.

The first is what his cap numbers looked like with Atlanta. Once he was traded, we only owe him base salary, thus the lower cap numbers now.
