Gordon to IR

Did he relapse or something?

The player has to be given an injury settlement. Once that is done, then the player can play for another team. My bet is that the Pats wait until Saturday to give Gordon the settlement which would mean he couldn't play this weekend.

There's no set time requirement that a player has to be on IR before being given a injury settlement?

I sure hope Sanu is ready to get doubled a ton.

He did not look right this year. Something was off. Watch some of this routes, if the ball was not coming to him, he barely sold it. Additionally, I also notices teams were not double teaming him as much as I thought he will command.
Not sure if it is just age slowing him down or he was dealing with something physical.

Yes, after teams picked up on this and stopped bracketing him, it was actually an improvement to replace him with Meyers.

There is a MAX number of days for the injury settlement, but no minimum to my knowledge..

Gordon isn't healthy. He might be healthier than he was, but he's not ready to take the field.

Gordon seems to disagree. What is the protocol for a player saying 'I'm healthy, release me from IR' and the team saying 'no you're not'?

The strange part is Gordon's seeming ignorance of the decision that was going to be made.

You'd think the team would have had a discussion with him prior to making this decision, but seemingly he first found out when it was reported by the media.

If that's the case, that's pretty f*cking bizarre.

If they double up Sanu, that leaves Edelman in single coverage. Brady would have a field day with that. I think we're going to see a lot of interesting situations going forward.

if Josh ends up on a team like the Steelers who have next to ZERO discipline his drug issues could return very fast - he needs a team with a no crap attitude, unfortunately there arent many organizations like that outside of NE

The team doesn't need Harry to produce. They won a SB last year with Edelman, Hogan, and Patterson as their top 3 WRs, and Gronk was a shell of himself as a receiver.

This offense, once Wynn comes back, is much better than last season's.
You forgot Dorsett!

Players aren't given an injury settlement, it's something they negotiate with their team, as by default the player has a right to remain on the reserve list and get paid their negotiated salary. The player elects to forgo that right and take less than the full amount their owed in exchange for being released into free agency. In other words, this is both sides being ready to move on.

I was just wondering the same thing. With his injuries so far this year, he looked slow when he was out there, then he got hurt and had to miss time, and if he fell off the wagon the Pats might not want to invest any more. A bummer for all concerned if that is what's going on...

He clearly wasn't healthy, and the Sanu trade + Harry designation made it clear someone was going to be the odd man out. Definitely a bummer, seems like a good guy and I hope he catches on somewhere. Hope he can stay clean going forward.

We need to sign another ST ace to take the roster spot.

We dumped Richards and signed Bethel. Pretty sure that our STs is good.
That being said, we do have a roster spot open..

I love Edelman but the dude is playing through an injury. He is gutting it out and still being his producive self but he doesn't look at his best right now. I don't necessarily think he is going to be out there destroying single coverage when he looks like he is 60-70%.

Well that most likely closes the books on Josh Gordon's time in NE.

17 games
60 catches
1007 yds
16.8ypc
58% catch %
4Tds

All said, thats a helluva lot more I thought they'd get out of him.
