Patriots trade for WR Mohamed Sanu, for a second-round pick

Ok, have not read through the entire thread so my apologies if any of this has already been posted. On the major plus side:

-4th most yards from the slot position since 2016
-big hands and great catch rate
-one of the best blocking WR in the screen game!!!

Here's the thing, other teams wanted him as well. The Pats very late second is basically a third. They already tried to trade a second for him at the draft. This was a fantastic acquisition.

The Pats are better today than they were last night. They gave up a late 2 and have him under contract next year. He also never gets hurt.

Reiss hinting they want to run more 4 WR sets:

"Gordon, Edelman, Sanu and Dorsett will be a tough four-receiver package for any defense to combat. Meyers, Harry and Olszewski offer promise and insurance at receiver, while Watson and Tomlinson, at tight end, can now fall into the spots that suit them best as role players.

This Defense with a not yet familiar Michael Bennett is making QB's cringe:eek: just imagine when Bennett gets up to speed Hmmmmm.
That'sa good point in a kind of OT manner. I don't see Bennett going anywhere. His time will come and likely sooner rather than later. Based on my eyeballs, he still has rare quickness and the ability to penetrate the LOS. No other Pats DLman can beat a guy one on one like Bennett can. Everyone else has to be schemed into pressure. It's a role I hope Bennett can embrace, an important role.

We did. And BB brought in AB. Then Kraft blew his load and forced AB out.
Cmon Biff. You are beating a horse that's been dead for over a month now.

BTW- I'll believe that Brown REALLY wants to play football this season when he walks up to 354 Park Ave and meets with Goodell and his "investigators" and presents HIS side. The fact that he hasn't makes me wonder if he really cares about playing.

Anyone know what Sanu's college number was?

Just a point of order. When dealing with trading of picks, it's easy to call the trade for a "first rounder" or a "3rd rounder" when the reality is that that is just too simplistic a description. With a minimum of 32 teams picking there is a LOT of differences in the talent pool between getting someone at the 34th pick of the 2nd round and someone at the 60th pick. Same round though.

The Pats got Sanu for a pick that will likely be in the 60-64 range. And when we tell the story, that is the way it should be described, IIRC we will still have double digit picks next April

Wonder what it means for meyers, at full strength wed have edelman, Gordon, sanu, dorsett, harry, meyers.

Why do you think it’s on AB? Florio seems to think Goodell is taking his sweet ass time to keep him outta the league. Seems far more likely than AB stopping himself from playing. Rosenhaus would trick him into driving to Park Ave like a dog going to the vet.

37 of those points come from defense/special teams

Subtract those points and I think they are still third highest.

Although this defense is giving them more chances and shorter fields than probably anybody in the league.

Thanks.. I know WRs can't wear that in the NFL.. Wonder what he'll wear..
NFL rules say 10-19 and 80-89.
Pats currently have 10-13, 16, 18, 80,82,83,84,85 assigned.
Not likely to assign 87. 89 is retired. 14 is Grogan's and I don't think they've assigned it since he played, though I could be mistaken. I hope they don't give him 17, honestly..

EDIT: 17 is currently assigned to Devin Ross on the Practice Squad. Found this after looking at the rosters on Patriots.com. And yes, Ross could give up the number if asked..

Now need to work on the O line. Get Wynn back, activate Cajuste, and jettison the current fill-ins at OT.

My take, looking back at the last several years, is that players like Amendola, Hogan, etc, were the guys that made critical plays at critical moments in the game that Brady went to when the main targets were not free (Edelman, Gronk etc) or injured.

Here hoping that Sanu continues that trend. Nothing splashy, but at least BB will not have a chance to draft a safety with the second round pick (haha).

There was a half where we saw JE, Meyers, Gunner, and Izzo as our offensive pass catchers. I don't ever want to see that again, especially going into the meat of the season.

Signing Sanu is a good thing to make up for the entire AB/DT fiasco. Idc what picks were given, this was required. Only question left: who gets cut?

If AB showed up to NFL HQ with his Lawyer and the Union Pres, I guarantee you that Goodell would see him otherwise there would be another grievance filed. It would also give legitimacy to the claim that the NFL is black-balling certain players. And it can't have that appearance even if it is true..

I don't get it ... Please someone explain. I rather give a 2nd for Sanu than a 3rd for a rental (Sanders) and probably more for an inury prone player (Green)

Age:

Sanu 30
Aj Green 31
Sanders 32

Yds:

Sanu 313
Aj Green 0
Sanders 369

Contract:

Sanu 2020 / 3.5M and 6M
Aj Green FA / 7.75M
Sanders FA / 5.97M

Is Sanu worth a 2nd? Probably not. But let's not pretend that is that big deal. Patriots move from 32 to 35 and get another 3rd.

I would argue that he is, because of how he would fit in this offense. He has a knack for sitting in zone coverages, can beat every coverages, is a technican at route running, and (wait for it) can block.
