Patriots trade for WR Mohamed Sanu, for a second-round pick

If the Oakland rumors are true, and they don't have a 2nd round pick, then they were probably offering a 3rd. So the Pats had to offer a 2 to get it done, but that's not terrible, because the Pats 2 and the Raiders 3 are probably only 10 spots apart.

Bingo. You just won the internet.

Ok, have not read through the entire thread so my apologies if any of this has already been posted. On the major plus side:

-4th most yards from the slot position since 2016
-big hands and great catch rate
-one of the best blocking WR in the screen game!!!

Here's the thing, other teams wanted him as well. The Pats very late second is basically a third. They already tried to trade a second for him at the draft. This was a fantastic acquisition.

BS. There's no civil law suit anymore. And the SI story chick has also not filed anything.

Let me repeat. There's no civil suit. There's no criminal suit. There's no investigation being done by any police in any county in the whole country.

What will be suspended for?

I'm sorry, were you under the impression that there was some sort of due process in the NFL?

The dude is currently in an ongoing legal contract dispute with two separate teams, which means two separate owners. Goodell represents the owners and has complete power to do whatever the hell he wants. Do the math.

I will never ever get the obsession throughout nfl fandom with hoarding draft picks. The truth is most of them never turn into anything significant and most take a few seasons to develop into productive starters.

So I'm in favor of adding an impact veteran WR who will make plays now for a 2nd rounder that might but probably wont do anything in 3 years.

Especially on a great, veteran, deep roster.

This I believe is he exact reason we traded for him. We needed depth and players since Gordon is hurt and Harry still on IR. Plus, it's insurance for Gordon next year. I'm totally fine with it. Sanu is a solid player.

Now if we can only dump Bennett and get a new TE...

WR Signed for next year: Edelman, Meyers, Sanu, Harry, Olzsewski.

I think the purpose of limiting how many guys you can bring back from the IR is because they are afraid teams will be constantly stashing guys on the IR instead of releasing them. So I don't think they will be changing the rule anytime soon. The best you could hope for might be increasing the number from 2 to 3.
Agreed. But what's the harm in leaving it at 2, but not having practicing burn up a return slot? Have only actually being activated to the 53 burn a slot.

Just spitballing....

I wonder if there's an element of "we probably aren't going to ever be a good running team this year, so we better solidify the passing game" to this trade.

overpaying by a round for a need on a SB caliber team is ok with me.

Yup. Because if the Pats did nothing people would have *****ed and moaned if a 2nd was too steep for the Pats.

Get hooper next

I don't get it ... Please someone explain. I rather give a 2nd for Sanu than a 3rd for a rental (Sanders) and probably more for an inury prone player (Green)

Age:

Sanu 30
Aj Green 31
Sanders 32

Yds:

Sanu 313
Aj Green 0
Sanders 369

Contract:

Sanu 2020 / 3.5M and 6M
Aj Green FA / 7.75M
Sanders FA / 5.97M

Is Sanu worth a 2nd? Probably not. But let's not pretend that is that big deal. Patriots move from 32 to 35 and get another 3rd.

Interesting thoughts in this thread. We complain about lack of WR depth and when we finally get a good, serviceable WR (typically the kind Pats trade for), we complain that we paid too much?

May be BB doesn't know how to run a team after all. He's only won 6 SBs with Pats and has maintained excellent win-loss record through his tenure.

As for giving up a second rd pick, I am okay with that as long as BB and others in the building feel he can contribute.

Now, let's got get a goddamn snack

The element being that without another decent pass threat, defenses can put use more people up front to stop the run. Now they'll have to back off of that

I like the acquisition. Mohamed Sanu being a capable blocker also is a plus for Patriots.
God to Mohamed in passing game seems divine, what can go wrong.
GO PATS

Pass to get ahead and run to win.

A high octane passing game benefits the run game. Play action reeks havoc on a defense.

The only way i would trade Bennett is that if a team would give us a second rounder. Lol. We might have a team like that in the raiders lol.

I was encouraged too. He's going to need some time to get his game legs under him, but it was no coincidence that the TE suddenly became a much more involved part of the passing game with him in there. His blocking on the first (second?) Michel TD was solid too. He's a good piece to have.

He's already had as many catches (3) as Dwayne Allen last season.
