Nick Saban calls it rat poison but I think it hurts the team when the media tells them how good they are. Who cares if we’re 7-0? 7 wins don’t mean anything, the last two occasions when we went 7-0 in 07 and 15 didn’t translate to a super bowl win. I think the reason for this is the media, I almost like it better when they say Brady is done or we aren’t going to the super bowl or the defense sucks because it adds that motivation. Winning too much will make you complacent. It is rat poison.

Brilliant.

the sports media is a ridiculous hype machine that loves to build you up and then take you down

I heard media trolls this morning who normally hate on the Patriots going on the "undefeated" bandwagon to drum up the hype machine

These are professional adults. Not kids.

Winning too much wasn’t the reason why they didn’t win in 2007 or 2015. Just a SSS coincidence

Belichick has always consistently kept the team humble. He points out their mistakes even in a blowout win and then keeps them focused on their next game.

I used to think after a team won too many games in a row they were "due" for a loss. Then we won 21 games in a row with a SB sandwiched in.

Oh you spoiled MFers.

Lol you've got the life.

No need to worry if you listen to bradys post game interview or saw the news of us trading a 2nd rounder for help at wr. The team is focused on improving, thats all that matters

"Hello? You play to win the game!"

Meanwhile.... the defense is calling it's own blitzes based on the offense they see lined up.

Somehow, I don't think that they'll get sucked into the hype.

I believe this team and coach have managed through the "burden" of winning too much in the past.

They said the same thing in 2003 when the Pats were finishing the regular season with 12 straight wins. Many mediots said how they would be better off to have dropped one or two late in the season.

I seem to remember that year ending relatively well.

It seems to me that winning "too much" gets you a bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. And half of all #1 seeds make it to the Superbowl.

So the only way to win is to lose? How much losing maximizes winning?

Sorry Vince, I know they named the ultimate game trophy after you, but this quote doesn't capture the essence of the story.
“Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time.”

Well Kellerman says that the saints are in prime position to beat us. I guess that helps

The Browns are due.

The day the Browns beat us. That’s the day I become an astronaut
