Patriots trade for WR Mohamed Sanu, for a second-round pick

what you prefer is one thing what's realistic is another.

How do you know what is realistic? Do you have access to Develin's medical records?

You don'y get that option. Harry is in. It is Harry and ________.

No kidding....the point was that I wish Bill waited a bit longer before activating Harry

IMO this smells a lot like N’Keal isn’t getting activated off IR. Not because he can’t physically but because they feel we need Wynn and Devlin down the stretch and this trade compensates for Harry.

That's not how it works. Because Harry has practiced, the Pats used up one of the "Designated to Return". That leaves them with only one space left. Hopefully, that will be Wynn..

In a vacuum, a 2nd for a year and a half of Sanu might be an overpay (his stats are better than I expected, though - a lot better). But this isn't a vacuum.

Is Harry ready? Listening to BB is always tricky, but it didn't sound like it the other day. Can any rookie come in and get Brady's trust quickly, for that matter? We're almost halfway in and Meyers, who has been absolutely outstanding, is only now getting a bit of a chance. Is he even going to get activated next week? (I admit it, despite Reiss's expectations, I'm still hoping for Develin to come back. They need him in January.)

Gordon was hurt before he got more hurt in the Giants' game. Edelman is banged up and showed it after his drop last night.

Sanu gives the Pats a breather for both, particularly Edelman. He's also a helluva BLOCKER.

They should look to upgrade TE2/blocking. Maybe it's Tomlinson, but he looked pretty bad last night. Maybe it's Izzo. Maybe it's Dwayne Allen.

In any case, their cover zero defense is setting an amazing standard here.

The Pats are also the highest-scoring team in the league. They have no more division games on the road. They're 5-0 in the conference.

They've outscored opponents 223-48.

223-48.

THIS SUCKS!

37 of those points come from defense/special teams

Fun fact: Sanu has a better QB rating then Darnold.

Bill has wanted Sanu forever. He was rumored to be on his way here before he signed with atlanta. We offered a second for him on draft day and the falcons said no. Greg Jennings describes him as a great route runner with a huge catch radius who is a perfect fit for are system. Bill has been trying to get Sanu for 3-4 years there is a reason for that.

Hes a solid player who should fit in this offense. Gordon is out until after the bye most likely and Harry wont have to be thrown to the fire now.

Now bill doesnt have to worry about putting gunner out there as a #4 receiver or beating edelman into the ground

If he's worth a 3rd to literally any other team, then he's worth a 2nd to the Patriots. They sometimes have to offer one round up because everybody expects NE picks to be #32. The price of success.

Not sure if we still are talking about the Sanu trade, but if we still are, I have a few brief comments.

1. I don't like the fact that we traded for a WR in the first place. I like it less that if we WERE going to trade for a WR he wasn't a "field stretcher" speed guy. I like it even LESS that if we were going to to trade for a WR we'd do it for a 2nd round pick.

2. Now that I got that out of the way, let me tell you how I REALLY feel. I worry that the fact that Bill felt the need to make this trade for this price, says more about where he feels Gordon and Harry are in their return to the team than the immediate need for a WR.

3. Sanu has been a quality professional his entire career. I'm guessing a pick in the early 60's was the price that it took to get him. Ideally one of the 3rd round comp picks would have done it, but the market IS the market.

4. I would have rather gotten someone like Howard, though I'm cooling on Brate because I'm thinking that's the same as a healthy Lacosse. Howard was the prize for me. I don't understand why TB is so adamant in not trading him. Arians doesn't value TE's, the team isn't going anywhere, and there is a Patriot connection to the FO.

5. In the end we are a better offensive team for having him. But by how much better remains to be seen.

I don't like the rule. Too restrictive. A team should be allowed to practice as many players as possible w/o the designation being used.

Agreed. But that's not how it's written currently. Hopefully, they league will change it.. They've already changed the rule once. It used to be you had to use the designation when you put the player on the IR. Now, you can wait..
