NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Chiefs @ Broncos game thread - (Updated) Reaction to Mahomes' Injury

I understand Mahomes is a star, but the fact people in the media were acting like someone died last night was truly embarrassing. Players are injured weekly and football doesn’t live or die with Mahomes playing or not. I hope all is well, but all the extra stuff from the media on social media was annoying.
because he is the chosen one...like others before him, he was the one that would take down Tom Brady and the Patriots. It used to be Rodgers, but now its Mahomes. With the injury, they know that the Goat will once again prevail.

Maybe, but again I’d cite common sense. What the injury report was before the game doesn’t mean much when Mahomes is clearly, obviously in a lot of pain after each hit, limping around, from yet another damaging hit. Stats about QB sneaks being low risk injury plays are largely irrelevant here. RGIII’s knee blowout was a “low risk” play; Kevin Durant’s injury was a “low risk” play. Guys dealing with lower leg injuries should be avoiding getting smashed by multiple 270-300 linebackers/linemen. Common sense.
Ok, Dr. Thomas Paine. I didn’t know they had football back in your day.

Ok, let’s call an Andy Reid timeout.

So it’s ok for say Edelman to say, play with a rib injury but not if he had a leg injury because trauma can happen to say, the leg to a greater degree than say, a rib? Is that you’re common sense point?

What the hell does “brief absence” mean? That last sentence makes the tweet fairly useless. Thanks for nothing, Ian.
It means he has to change his “briefs” because he shat himself when he first got hurt, thought he was done.

Bingo and teams have discovered that if you keep Mahomes in the pocket he is less effective. Make him drop back.

BaconCandy pointed out something that I believe he is correct. Mahomes likes to roll out and throw because he can get in timing with the WR on the move. Mahomes is going to struggle if that is taken away.
It will be taken away or else he could blow out his knee way worse than last night. Opposing teams will want to take advantage of this.

Not likely.

Much more likely is that he sits out the games until the bye.

Even if it is three games at most, that is still very significant. Given their next 3 opponents, 1-2 during that stretch seems like the most likely outcome. 0-3 is also not out of the realm of possibility. Their defense is still most likely closer to what we saw for the first six games of the season.

With four losses at that point in the season, there would be little to no shot at home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, barring something catastrophic with the patriots.

And all the Chiefs fans had to change their shourts.

That’s why it has never bothered me when Brady intentionally takes a sack instead of getting hit, or just throwing it away, especially during the regular season. During the postseason or a game winning drive you see his mentally change.

KC's O-line couldn't block anybody on 2nd-and-1.
KC's O-line couldn't block anybody on 3rd-and-1.
So, you go for the highest percentage 4th and 1 play.

Blame the Chiefs players and play-callers for what they couldn't do on the previous two downs, failures that narrowed their options.

I would worry more about his health.

I know it's a completely different scenario, but I'm thinking of Kevin Durant and how I felt he should not have tried coming back against the Raptors. He sustained a much greater injury as a result and, even though he got the mega deal anyway, probably has altered the twilight of his career to some degree. Of course I'm not a doctor so I have no way of really knowing for sure, but certain injuries, like the ones being discussed, have lingering effects more often than not.

Again, I wish the best to Mahomes. He's a great young player and good for a league that does enough to hurt its own product.

Next 2 are against the packers and Minnesota. These were going to be tough even with mahomes. I expect them to drop both.

Even if he returns he wont be the same player with a bulky knee brace. We saw how the high ankle sprain limited him. He may have to start thinking about changing his play style unless he wants to end up like other mobile quarterbacks like cam newton

Id be suprised if kc is not 5-4 after the next 2 games. So even if Mahomes comes back and beats us, kc wont be overtaking us.

Houston, colts, Buffalo and maybe Baltimore are the only mild threats but I doubt any finish better than 11-5 or 12-4.

Im sensing another 2007/2010 where hfa is wrapped up with weeks to spare.

Chiefs should still win the division but winning two road games in the playoffs is difficult.

yep, with kc my only major worry is going into arrowhead and facing those refs. I doubt they would have gotten the 1 seed with Mahomes but this is still huge to know we wont hafta go there.

I hope he doesn't go the RG3 route. I like both as players and as men.

Chiefs will still make the playoffs either as division winner or wildcard.

If they are smart they keep Mahomes out until after the bye week let him heal for December and the playoffs.

They were playing for homefield before the injury, now they're playing to still be alive when Mahomes returns, and to let him have a shot at a SB.

No point risking him sooner as homefield seems very unlikely even with him out there, and he's far too important to the franchise to gamble on.

Karma is real.

Chiefs fans wish career ending injury on Brady on a routine basis.
Exactly Eff them. I’m not going to wish Mahomes serious injury, but if he ends up getting one, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you inbred ****kickers our there.

So he will likely play with a brace when he comes back. The chances of re-dislocating is pretty much high. I guaranteed you teams will try and get as many hits on him. Push him out the pocket and force him to scramble. The chiefs are setting themselves up for a PR nightmare if he’s rushed.
