"what I said was not the same as what I had said previously."

It's right there in English. Stop being a homer. BB is admitting he went back on his word because things changed. I'm not making anything up or reading into anything. Your take on my interpretation is wrong.

Yesterday: "It's raining".
Today: "It's sunny".

Good lord, I've gone back on my word!

It's become clear that many posters here do not value a man giving another man his word. A man's word is worthless when it comes to making sure the team wins.

But we make fun of Humphries for keeping his word to the Titans.

Wow, maybe I'm old fashioned but that's not the way my Dad brought me up. Even in business, especially in business, a man's word should be his bond. No wonder why this world is so f^*ked up. This has nothing to do with capitalists either.

Yeah.

Belichick lied/went back on his word. We can argue about justifications ("Things change", etc...), and the exact level of dishonesty in BB's original words to DT, but that's not going to change the underlying fact. And it's stupid for people to try claiming otherwise, when Belichick has admitted it.

Belichick 'admitted' only that circumstances had changed, which perforce altered the landscape. Until you can find a direct quote where Belichick 'promised' anything all you are doing is parsing words to justify your BS. Belichick told Thomas he'd bring him back and he did. For it to be anything approaching the breaking of his word someone needs to provide a link to where Thomas was promised a spot in perpetuity regardless of any other developments.

They are called Hypocrites my friend that's what most football fans are especially the homers. They bend with the wind I am embarrassed for them. Love the Humphries comparison.

It's the idolatry of BB and Kraft that bother me with this fan base. They could crap on platter and the homers would say its not only smells but taste like chicken. Pats Homers taking Idolatry of men to new heights.

I feel for Thomas. If I give my word to someone, then it’s as good as a guarantee. BB admitted that happened so not sure why it’s a debate. Unfortunately for us, it backfired. Even though Thomas is not really a threat, we could definitely use him now.
Just reading this quote now I wonder what he said which changed?

There is no way in hell BB would "promise" him anything except a signing bonus and a legit chance to compete for a roster spot and playing time.

16-0 is ridiculous to predict in any situation.

But have they lost yet? Did I miss something that you saw in an alternate (5 days ahead) universe?

In the meantime 16-0 with the Greatest Defense of all time would be just as good as 16-0 with the Greatest Offense of all time. I'd take it.

I'd also take 11-5 with a 7th SB win, but I'm a Patriots fan, not an FFLer.

.

That’s another one of the cringey insults some of you geriatrics on this site use.

FFLer is almost as bad as chicken little.

Let's be fair here. This isn't something limited to the Patriots. Fan bases defend their teams, even to the point of defending their team when they've attacked other teams for doing the exact same thing. It's what happens.

Thomas is full of bull. The Patriots actually showed him some respect. They
knew he would not get much playing time and traded him to a place where he will.

Why are there 10 pages in this thread? Why is this even a story?

No, I did not read the entire thread...who the hell has the time to read 10 pages of a thread about a player being a little butt sore about being created like cattle.....

The NFL is a production based business....we at the time didn't think we needed Thomas. It is what it is (shrugs).

You are just a flaming troll, and lamely attempting to justify your stupid arguments by cursing the Pats' fan base. Shame on you.

Sorry BB but this is another way of saying you went back on your word. Not a good look. I get he doesn't give a sh*^t. It is what it is.

Bill Belchick on Demaryius Thomas' frustrations: 'I felt like I was always truthful with him'
That's a lot more honesty that you're going to get from the vast majority of political and institutional leaders in the US. Belichick is saying that things change and he makes the decisions he feels he has to make on any given day in light of the circumstances as he perceives them. He's making no pretenses otherwise.

The rest is semantics.

Is it a "lie" if you say or do one thing on Day X and then something else on Day Y that in effect contradicts what you said or did on Day X? To my mind, the answer to that question depends on "intent" and we can't know Belichick's intent. In other words, everyone is entitled to their opinion. One person's "lie" is another person's "pragmatic decision based on the facts as perceived."

The NFL is ultimately a business governed by Labor Agreements and Contracts. It would be nice to think that owners and management make decisions based on anything other than what is in what they perceive as the best interests of their franchises or that players make decisions based on anything other than what they perceive as in their own financial and professional best interests. But, neither do.

IMO, it's pretty clear that the Pats would be better off with Thomas than without him...but "it is what it is."

There is no 'word' ... seems to be a problem for some.

No, Thomas is not full of bull. Belichick has openly admitted the truth of Thomas' statement.

“I felt like I was always truthful with him, but things changed, and therefore what I said was not the same as what it was — what I had said previously. It is what it is,” Belichick said, via Michael Hurley of WBZ.

Bill Belichick on Demaryius Thomas: I was truthful with him, but things change

What the hell is wrong with you people? The guy being accused of breaking his word has acknowledged that he broke his word, citing a change in circumstances as the justification.

Argue "AB coming free changed everything". Argue "subsequent injuries/developments made it impossible to keep DT, no matter how much we wanted to". Argue whatever you want in defense of BB going back on his word. But don't argue that BB didn't do it, because he acknowledged that he did it.

He should be.

There is no 'word' ... there is contractual agreement only.
Belichick does not promise anyone a roster spot ... anyone who doesn't know this is misinformed.

Not homers ... just smart enough to know Belichick promises nothing in terms of roster spot.

Of course there is "word". Anyone who claims otherwise is just trying to defend dishonesty.

Sheesh ... do you really expect logic to matter.
Anyone who thinks Belichick promises roster spots is clueless.
