When can N'Keal Harry practice?

there are several rookie receivers flashing potential this year. Marquise brown in BAL, DK Metcalf in SEA, Terry Mclauren...
AJ Brown...

Don't get me wrong...I HOPE Harry can be a difference maker...but Mitchell was actually an outlier.... Develin opening holes to get the run game going is more likely than Harry being a difference maker when we have Dorsett/Meyers or a vet WR (after a trade) filling in....

What makes Mitchell an outlier ?

On a similar note, how often did Brady get to work a First Round WR talent as a rookie into his group of receivers ? Are those also outliers ?

Dobson had 37 catches for 4 TDs in only 12 games in his rookie season and wasn't half the prospect that Harry is. Kenbrell Thompkins had nearly identical stats as an undrafted rookie and was basically devoid of talent. It's not Brady who has an issue with rookies, this coaching staff just likes to protect rookies and bring them along slowly. Players are generally drafted with next year in mind. When rookies play significant roles, it's usually because they're forced into it (see Devin McCourty after Leigh Bodden went down); in those situations some sink, some swim.

Luckily, Harry doesn't need to be the team's #1 receiver this year. Julian Edelman is that, and Gordon is their next receiver and is still working himself back after spending all spring and summer in rehab. The biggest issue is that the team is basically forced into running 11 personnel or even 10 at this point because their tight ends are only fine and they're out of fullbacks. Dorsett is pretty good for what he is and Meyers is developing but you'd really like an upgrade along that group of options. Wouldn't be surprised if you see more 21 personnel too with some combination of their 4 backs. They still have a lot of good players. Would it be great to have an Antonio Brown or Stefon Diggs? Absolutely, but that ship has probably sailed and the likes of Agholor are definitely worse options than Harry. Injuries are the only problem.

What happens to Trent Williams... Not saying we will get him but what will Washington do with a guy who has dug in

He'd have to take a bit of a pay cut, but it's possible

AJ Brown...

A lot of them are flashing. McLaurin, Brown, Metcalf, Hardman, Samuels, Williams and a few others all look like hits.

Considering the Pats picked the 2nd guy off the board it would be really bad for them to miss. Here is how the draft looks for WRs as of now.

#25 Brown - Hit
#32 Harry - TBD
#36 Samuel - Hit
#51 Brown - Hit
#56 Hardman - Hit

So.... if the Pats and BB manage to miss on the one guy in the top 5 who didn't hit that would be horribly bad and only add to the idea the Pats have no idea how to draft WRs.

I think it's premature to declare any of those players hits, but all of them have at least been contributors - some to good teams.

Ready to practice and be part of offense vs Jets... ??

Isn't he taking a pay cut now by not earning any of these game checks?

Sure, if the Pats trade for him in a few weeks, they'll still be on the hook for half his contact, which amounts to $5.5 million. Still not enough cap space for him, unless he wants to renegotiate with us or if the Pats can get someone to restructure. It's possible though but some manipulation is required.

Will be curious what the skins do

I agree. However, I’m surprised that you are not getting “disagrees”, “dislikes” or called “Ben Volin”, “Felger” or “Max” for putting TBD next to Harry’s name.

I still think he will be a hit. But he has to prove it and stay healthy.

Mitchell is the only rookie WR I remember making a significant impact in the post-season other than Deion Branch in 20 BB-Brady seasons.

And fair enough....nKH is a first rounder....makes him an outlier as well.

The Pats cannot renegotiate a contract with a player not on their team. They would have to have the full $5.5 million available for the trade and then negotiate.

I would look at it from the angle that N'keal should be good considering how ready to contribute top WRs as rookies are now.

Drafting WRs is a different game than even 5-10 years ago.

Have no fear Bob, Harry will be good.

Branch's rookie season = 2002 = no postseason.

Chris
