Dwayne Allen, Where is he?

Going into the year edge run blocking was a major concern of mine. Its remains a major concern as well as interior run blocking.

If they can field Allen, Wynn and Thuney on one side, they at least have a have a fighting to gain positive yardage.

Its also about RZ TD short yd etc. The O in general looks weak after Wynn and Develin went on IR and the running game was not of last year wo Allen and Gronk - the deliberate & sound bases of post 40y Brady O.

Don't know Allen situation health wise and what is his market but a monster blocking TE like him (and there are not many anymore in the league) would be huge now to help poor Newhouse (also in PP) & bring some power & stability to the way O operates.

Right now every snap looks like giving birth and with FG problem every drive is under additional pressure.. Hopefully both Wynn and Develin can return. It will be interesting how BB adresses this issue but my guess would be on solidifying the line & ground game over shiny new WR.

The cold hard truth is the O Line loses the battle of the trenches on short yardage

That cannot continue.

“Cannot” as in “will not”, “should not”, or “I hope not”?

Cannot meaning if they can't convert 3rd 1 or 2nd n goal from the 2 with some consistency they will be in trouble in the playoffs.

It will be interesting if Scar can make this a competent unit.

I think we will see improvement after the bye but probably not as good as the 2018 line

The team has been blessed with great TE play for years. Martellus Bennett was I think a saviour when Gronk was out a few years ago (and we did win the SB with him). I really think Dwayne Allen was an important player on the O-line for the last several years.

Losing Gronk, Bennett and Allen was a major blow, but losing our LT to free agency in consecutive years, along with Andrews going down has made the situation almost irreparable.

Thus, the best chance this team has, is to optimize play with the players on the roster. It will look ugly at times, but at the end, the 'hope' is that the Oline and existing TE's will gel well enough for the playoffs.

My only fear is injury to #12 and to do everything possible to make sure that does not happen. The running game has to get better, and when that happens it will open play action and that will improve the passing game.

I'm guessing Dwayne Allen is about 325 hitting the buffet daily ..guy had tons future fat guy potential

If we were in 2018 writing a letter to our future selves in 2019 (after being told about this future thread title), it would be filled with sadness and empathy.

I have no questions with regard to Scar making the OL an effective unit for the playoffs, with Wynn back.

I have less confidence in our ability to replace the missing blocking that we get from the TE and FB positions.

The 2018 OL would have been lots, lots worse without help from Gronk, Allen and Develin.

Lacosse and Izzo maybe the worst pair of TE since BB arrived in NE
The Pats have had some good to great TE long before BB took over. I think the worst is when Tom Beer was the "best " on the team in the early 70's.

i am not so sure. Our 2018 o line got dominant run support from brown and cannon on the outside. But mason, thuney and Andrews were effective opening holes on the inside.

this year, Cannon, thuney and mason are playing hurt and Karas is making poor calls at center.

Newhouse is a joke on the left side and the tight ends could not block high schoolers.

once the o line gets healthy and Wynn returns, our run game will pick up.
