How bad is this O-line?

I'm not sure how many times it has to be pointed out that I've said I'm not blaming Sony for the poor performances of the OL and as you rightfully point out, Izzo isn't acquitting himself as a blocker.

I did not mean to infer you did. My apologies if it seemed I was.

It’s not either/or. The blocking hadn’t been there for the run game (40% of the OL hurt, starting fullback out and HOF TE gone so that’s just a MASSIVE surprise).

But Michel hasn’t been special. It seemed like he was flashing a bit more in the preseason, so it’s a little disappointing. Whatever the issue is—he’s dinged up a bit, this is just who he is, or whatever—one thing that can be addressed by coaching is how he attacks the line. Even if the blocking isn’t what it should be he’s got to get the ball and GO. All the dancing in the world won’t make holes appear that aren’t there. He’s doing a half-assed Le’Veon Bell impersonation right now that just isn’t working. Actually, for what it’s worth, I’ve always hated the way Bell runs, even when he’s had some success.

I've decided to join your side.
No more trans behaviors? Good to hear. Don't forget to send back that pretty XXL slip! Resisting the compulsion to take a selfie in it first can be considered your first step toward recovery.

Perhaps, but it's still something like a 90/10 blame split, and most of the bad habits Sony has developed are because of the bad blocking. But I'll concede there were a few plays yesterday when it felt like Sony could have gotten 3 yards and only got 1, including a couple short yardage plays when just putting your head down and getting the first was paramount.

I’ve been thinking the same thing for awhile...his style is similar to Bell’s but if their are no holes...he has nowhere to run...and that’s on the offensive line. Burkhead has had more success because of his catching abilities but also because he just runs to the line and makes cuts that makes defenders miss...I don’t see Sony with the same cut abilities.

The offensive line and tight ends need to get healthy or we need to make trades.

I said I am joining you.

Relax Mam

Newhouse sucks... beyond that the only reason this team sucks at run blocking is the tightends. You can't remove Gronk and Dwayne Allen, replace them with jags and expect the same production.

TE's are half WR and half OL... fans only want to see the WR part and ignore the boring OL part... the boring blocking part is why they could lineup against an 8 man front last year and blast a hole wide open. They don't have that kind of juice this season.

On a side note, Yosh Nijman is a really talented OT prospect sitting on the Packers practice squad, they are really deep at OL and that's a kid Scar can work with. BB go get him, otherwise give Cunningham or Eluemunor a chance... Newhouse is as worthless as a knuckle in my johnson.

O-line is having issues but it doesn’t help that Sony goes to the ground at first contact constantly. Harris should get a look in short yardage.

I see problems all over the place. Karras is a good guard but he is too slow at center. He doesn't combo block well and those are the best kind of blocks to open up holes. Cannon has never been the greatest run blocker and something is wrong with Mason. Mason usually moves people but no so much this year. Imo, we need to run directly behind Thuney. We also need to run more out of passing formations. Bigger bodies aren't getting it done and are just in the way. At this point, our receivers are blocking better than our tight ends in the run game.

  • Brady threw for 944 yards in the 3 postseason games last year.
  • Edelman had 26 catches for 388 yards in the 3 postseason games last year, and was voted MVP of the Super Bowl.
  • James White had 20 catches in the 3 postseason games last year, including a 15 catch game against the Chargers.
In what fantasy universe is that Michel carrying the team?

Why do you choose to be so intellectually dishonest? I know you think you are God and everything, but you are a liar if you claim this team did not reshape its identity through the run game after the Pittsburg loss. That reshaping carried us through to the SB. The whole playoff run narrative was based how the Pats changed the offense and went back to smash-mouth football. The only fantasy here is yours in denying it. So yes, dear God, you are wrong again. Sony had 129 yards an 3 TD vs SD, 113/2 vs KAS, and 94/1 vs LA. That is 336 yards. Burkhead had 96 playoff yards, White had 27. The run game carried us to the SB. I am done responding. You are just arguing for your own Godhead at this point.

And the Pats just placed Jakob Johnson on the IR... the run blocking is not going to get better.

Not to sound like a troll...

Yes, we should draft players like Wynn, Andrews, Froholdt and Cajuste.

BB always draft OL's, but this is unlikely to be a major need, except for a swing OT to compete with Cajuste and whoever we re-sign.

.

I think next year BB is probably going to invest some picks on the o-line .

I'm not being intellectually dishonest, just as I wasn't being fickle. You're trolling, and moving the goalposts every time you get slapped down. That's boring. If you're going to troll, have the ability to stay on topic and fight for your point. That's good trolling. Hell, I gave you multiple posts to come up with something last night, and you couldn't do anything but jump from one obviously false claim to another. Being such a lame ass that you have to keep shifting your argument because you've got no substance is boring.

Why do you choose to be a boring troll? Troll better.

When did this happen?
