How bad is this O-line?

I'm not blaming Sony for the poor performances of the OL, at all.

How about for Izzo being an absolute blocking disaster? What share of the blame pie does Sony get for that? Because it was painful to watch tonight

Yes, behind an O-line that blocks well. Just like last year. I think it is so stupid to complain that Sony now stinks when it is not him. This line will come together.

We can (and should) complain about that OL night and day, but Sony is not doing Sony any favors. While there's still time for the skeptics to be proven wrong, I think it's safe to say that the question of whether or not Sony should have been the Patriots' first round pick has been answered in the negative.

Gronk tappin' his retirement papers in his hand sayin' hmmm I think i'll hold on to these a little longer.

Seriously? In year #2 and only six games in? That is hogwash. I seriously doubt you said that after he carried us through the playoffs last year. He has a piecemeal O-line and after only 6 games he is a first round mistake. You sound like a fickle old woman.

Nooooooo not that.

At the rate Deus' safe space is expanding it may not be long before he'll be coming here just to read his own pontifications. Of course that would probably suit him just fine.

Yes, seriously. In year #2 and only six games in. How many years do you figure it usually takes for a 1st round level RB to show that he's a 1st round level RB? It's not as if I said he can't play at all.

The team took a gamble on an injured player, and it's not working out at a first round level. And, given my first two posts on Michel:

There's nothing fickle about my post.

Oh I don't care if you bashed him back then. You were not singing the same tune in the playoffs last year. His running got us to the SB. Without him, we did not make it or get a ring. That is worth a first round pic, imo. It is silly to start up on him again when we are just 6 games in.

You seem to have me confused with someone else. I made 3 posts with the word "Michel" between Jan 1 and the end of the SB. None of them fit what you're claiming.

What’s the cap situation moving forward?

Bedard says Brady was bad against Jets?

The draft

Now, here's my take on him from last December:

How about we let him improve his running game first, as that's not particularly good right now, before we start talking about him as potentially becoming an "unbelievable dual threat"?

Thoughts on Sony Michel

I'm not sure how many times it has to be pointed out that I've said I'm not blaming Sony for the poor performances of the OL and as you rightfully point out, Izzo isn't acquitting himself as a blocker.

I have not confused you with anyone. They guy got us to the SB. He scored the only TD in it and now, according to you, he is a waste of a first round pick. That is ridiculous.

If you want to believe that Michel is a round 1 level talent, you are welcome to do so. I hope that, in time, Michel shows enough to convince me to agree with you.

But calling me fickle because I don't believe that a RB is a first round level RB, when I've had questions about the player from the beginning, continued to maintain reservations about that player throughout last year, and I still don't see that player as a first round level RB at this point, is nonsensical.

What is nonsensical is saying he is not a 1st round talent only 6 games after he carried us to a ring.

Well done Sliplady. BTW, thats a pretty slip in your avatar. Does it come in xxl?
Your cross-dressing fetish might be more appropriately discussed via PM vs. open forum.

I think Sony is fine, problem is no Develin, no Wynn, no Gronk...that’s just hard to run without those 3. This line at times has been pretty bad.
I never thought I’d say this but Andrews is sorely missed, I hope his recovery goes well, but with such scare I am not even sure if he is coming back.

Brady is getting older so the run game is a must and they have to keep pounding the rock. Look at the Colts and see what they did to the Chiefs, they demolished them with the run game.

I think next year BB is probably going to invest some picks on the o-line and possibly grab a serviceable tight end that can be a solid blocker.

What is nonsensical is saying he is not a 1st round talent only 6 games after he carried us to a ring.
  • Brady threw for 944 yards in the 3 postseason games last year.
  • Edelman had 26 catches for 388 yards in the 3 postseason games last year, and was voted MVP of the Super Bowl.
  • James White had 20 catches in the 3 postseason games last year, including a 15 catch game against the Chargers.

In what fantasy universe is that Michel carrying the team?

1) Sony Michel already paid off his 1st rounder last year but I agree if you compare him to other Rbs that came in to the league recently he certainly hasn't shown anything special this year. I mean fit Burkhead looked better than him.

2) Shaq Mason has been a big disappointment this year. Very inconsistent

So far, I’d say, compared to the other RBs in the 2018 draft, Michel’s a late 1 playing like a late 2. But maybe that’s partly the OL and the RB by committee Pats scheme. Hard to tell.

I think the woes we see all start with David Andrews, his loss is more significant than we realize. Karras is OK but a couple of shotgun snaps looked like floaters and maybe threw #12's timing off..

The loss of Wynn is also obvious, Newhouse often looks like a turnstile...

The loss of Develin, who is an excellent blocker, has to be mentioned as well...

The TE blocking is at best below average...

The receiving corps has been depleted for one reason or another, causing Brady to hesitate a while longer...

When you add all of this up it may not be terrible offensive line play, but it is certainly not up the the standards we are used to..

How many short yardage situations did the Pats get stuffed on last night??
