Felger and Mazz

Felger is the ULTIMATE troll and he knows how to get listeners. Felger started at the Herald many moons ago, covered the Bruins, got kicked off that beat for pissing off Harry Sinden (I think), then moved onto the Pats beat. So, little history lesson for all the fake fan boys here...Felger started off actually being PRO PATRIOTS in some way. Felger used to have a show on a weak signaled AM station north. The station was the Boston Sporting News Radio affiliate, WWZN iirc.

Anyway, Felger took the OPPOSITE position in the Brady/Bledsoe debate as most of his fellow media hacks. Guys like Ron Borges, Kevin Mannix, Rob Hobson were all Bledsoe all the time and hated Belichick. Felger, in what could be called a stroke of genius, came out on the other side and spoke out in favor of keeping Brady in the starting lineup and keeping Bledsoe on the pine and believe it or not, Felger lauded Belichick.

Since then, Felger's schtick has almost always been to take the side that pisses off Pats fans the most. Through the years Felger has always pumped up the Pats main rival (other than Indianapolis - but he did love him some Bob Sanders) - Felger was has been a booster of the Shanahan Broncos, the Coughlin Giants, the Rex Ryan Jets...but since the Pats put Rex Ryan to bed in both NYJ and Buffalo...fast forward to today, he has picked his poison, and his hemlock is to attack Brady...

If you bother to listen to sports radio you deserve what you get.

Yes. He was the first big Brady backer in the Boston media world I remember that very well.

whats up with these two dudes? I’m able to pick up NBC sports Boston and these two clowns are on. Why the absolute Hate for the Patriots and on a Boston network?

I get not being fanboys or whatever, but man, everything out of their mouth is mocking the Team and just negative. How the hell do they get air time up there?
They succeed by agitating Pats fans and it works like a charm. Other media runts try to replicate what they do but fail.

I listened ever so briefly on the ride home. In absence of once criticizing Brady’s play, talking Deflate-gate they need to create new narratives. Now it is that Brady is concerned about his stats which is bizarre.

Brady's number one priority is absolutely winning without question.

But why would anyone assume that Brady does not want things like "the all time TD's thrown record", or the "all time passing yardage record"

I would suggest to you "better believe it Brady wants those records". He wants it all.

We have been hearing for nearly two decades how insanely competitive he is. Well it would not make sense if that did not also apply to wanting good stats. Winning is top priority, but he wants those records, big time.

@Kdo5 Big time.

Their show often sucks (though I think Murray is hilarious and like the segments with Bedard, Socci, etc), but they aren't stupid. They do what they do because their only goal is to stir up attention and instigate their viewers/callers - elaborate trolls. Threads like this are evidence of them succeeding at that goal.

what you just said is basically why I love their show.

And Murray is easily the most talented radio sports personality in Boston.

@rochrist Sorry i forgot, rochrist is the funniest personality in Boston sports, right

Sure, they’re making a living. So are the fake beggars on every street corner. I don’t buy into either scam.

The truth is, there are a large group of fans here that hate the Pats. Probably a hangover from the days the Giants were big. Plus, there are another group of fans who just like to piss on everything.

I don't agree with them about anything. But there show is funnier and way less boring than all the other radio talk shows imo.

And this is the crux of the matter. I used to listen to sports radio regularly, then one day it finally struck me: I never actually enjoy this. Sports talk radio is just bad.

I stopped cold and deleted the sports stations from my car radio. It's probably been 6-7 years now and haven't missed them for a moment.

Felger and Mazz always remind me of an early SNL skit with Buck Henry.

He's a radio host watching dead phones and just keeps saying more and more outrageous things until the phones finally start ringing.

It's called programming. Apparently people like to call up and argue with them. I try to watch when Bedard is on but not otherwise. Just ignore them.
I don't know. Most of the people I hear call in are slavishly agreeing with them.

FCB pretty much nailed it.

I don't think Felger is so much a troll as he is, at his very core, a "contrarian."

When there was some lingering old popular opinion supporting Bledsoe and questioning BB, he backed Brady and BB's early balls. He's actually a lot like BB in that way--a contrarian who has very thick skin. Then, when the Pats started their amazing championship run, you might have expected Felger to keep on the bandwagon. But he pivoted again because he LOVES him some devil's advocate position. It makes for good ratings and controversial discussion. It's a cousin of trolling, but I think it's more fundamental to his nature.

That settles it, we need a midday Zo n Dale show. Beetle and Keefe can be reassigned to doing movie podcasts for the mentally challenged
Dale and Zo would be awesome.

He graduated from the school of contrarians. He’s got a job at Trolling for Dollars.

Interesting to me, Felger used to be all over CSNNE TV. No, pretty much the ONLY thing he is is the simulcast of the radio show. They even took him off the Pats gameday show which was a giant relief to me. He's hard to find there now.

Deus said it perfectly.

The are glorified trolls who appeal to the hyper-sensitive, insecure, uneducated Boston sports fan and they know exactly what they are doing.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, and personally moved out of the market 2.5 years ago, but didn't Jimmy Stewart basically admit on Twitter this is the schtick?

1. Have super sensitive fan base; especially Pats Fans.
2. Troll them to basically force them to call in.
3. Screen out any intelligent caller who could challenge the Trolling POV being espoused by F or M.
4. Allow only some mouth breather through.
5. Mouth breather does the "yaaaa but...." thing.
6. Mazz laughs and does his [super exaggerated Boston accent] "Yaaa but Felgahhhh, I bet what they do is......"
7. Repeat forever until ratings tank.

I mess right back with them though. I call them with different voices, purposely make no sense to see what their reactions will be, etc.

Kind of like my role here

As your Mama said, pay no attention to them and they'll go away and bother someone else.

Why do Felger and Mazz do what they do? Well, Felger has a house on Nantucket. Does that help you?
