Barnwell: 10 NFL trade candidates, and proposing deals that make sense

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos

“One of the most impressive comebacks of the year belongs to Sanders, who tore his Achilles in December and seemed unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2019 season. Instead, he came back during preseason and hasn't missed a beat. Despite playing in what might charitably be described as a conservative offense under Joe Flacco, the 32-year-old Sanders has 24 catches for 307 yards and two touchdowns this season. Sanders has been limited in practice with a quad injury, but he certainly looks healthy enough to finish the final year of his current deal.

He has a little more than $7.2 million in prorated salary left in 2019, which reduces his trade value and makes it more likely that he wouldn't be dealt until the final days before the deadline. If a team waited until after Week 8 to trade for Sanders, though, it would owe only $5.4 million. I can think of one team that needs help at receiver and once expressed interest in Sanders ...

The trade: New England Patriots trade a 2020 sixth-round pick to the Broncos for Sanders

Sanders' versatility and ability to move around the formation appeals to the Patriots, who once signed Sanders to an offer sheet as a restricted free agentduring his time with the Steelers. It's unclear how much cap space the Patriots have given the Antonio Brown grievance, but they might need the Broncos to restructure Sanders' deal to absorb some of the remaining base salary, which would influence the quality of the picks heading back to Denver.

N'Keal Harry at midseason, but with Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Phillip Dorsett all banged up, adding Sanders would make a lot of sense for Tom Brady & Co.”

Sanders is supposed to make $10m this year. It may be "reasonable" but the NEP need to free up some cap space to get him here.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on that count. Harry is the only WR who's walking through that door, in all likelihood. Let's hope he's a homegrown star for once.

I don't see it happening either. Too many piles of cash to move
Well, there is one WR who's still available...and whom we're still paying anyway...

Well here's the thing. Given the Schedule, there is really no need to do ANY deal for a WR for the next 2-3 weeks. Even if you are the most RABID WR-head, you'd be hard pressed to see a need before the Browns game, and even then......

So lets see we pick up Sanders after the Browns game for those tough games and the playoffs. His cap hit would be down to around $5MM, which is an easily reachable number to get to with a few very minor moves. So OK on that one.

But although we may have signed him to an offer sheet a decade ago, he still doesn't know the system, language or QB, so there will be ramp up time. Also Gunner will likely go, so we will need to get someone else to PR, KOR, and back up Gunner. Also where's the money to replace players who DO get hurt during the course of the season. (to think that's not going to happen is foolhardy) Their cap numbers don't go away or go down when they go on IR, and every player you sign to replace them are new dollars to the cap, starting at $.5MM/pop

So while I like Sanders as a WR even though its about 10 years later than I would have liked, I STILL don't see the team getting THAT much better that it's worth the price of his acquisition.

Makes sense. We’ll see..

Wouldn't that blow heads up!!! stichup his mouth and not Social Media privilleges.

Cousins, one name not mentioned is Nelson Agholor. He is an afterthought in Philly and needs new scenery.

BB looks at players who have hurt the Patriots.

Look at Agholors stats in his Super Bowl appearance versus us.

SUPER BOWL:Nelson Agholor 9 CATCHES 84 YARDS 9.3 PER CATCH 11TARGETS

He's got 19 catches this year and 3 TDs as a back up. The lastyear on his contract. Only 26.

Drops? His career catching percentage is 60.5% compared to Edleman is 66.8%. Ironically Josh Gordon with N.E. is 57.3%

His CAP was over $9.2MM so the Eagles free up space if the Pats take him at a pro rated number at bout $6mm

Thoughts?

That’s way too much money for a guy who isn’t a clear upgrade over Dorsett right now. The goal is to improve the team, not to overpay a mediocre receiver for the sake of making a change.

Cousin, We are down to 3 WR and JE has bad ribs. TB has been releuctantto throw to the "rookie" Myers, so until we get a "healed" Neal back and the Dorsett "hammy" is quelled, we seek options.

Rashard Higgins would be my firsty
Trey Quinn
Sanders and Green are too much $
I would kick the tires on Kelvin Benjamin and "in case of fire break glass" Bryant.

Yes, I would take back AB if his contract was based on a vet minimum, mouth claus and social media claus. Only if Godell made a ruling of no suspension.

Give him a flip phone with no text options.

- E. Sanders

Is Peyton Manning part of this process?

I liked Higgins better than Malcolm Mitchell in the 2016 draft...and Higgins lasted until the end of the 5th round.

I also didn't understand at the time the Braxton Barrio selection in 2017 when a better version of him, Trey Quinn, was still available.
